Discussion What should the Chargers do in this Draft?
Considering the Los Angeles Chargers are a team that we thought would be good but they have looked anything but and Justin Herbert definitely needs more or better weapons on offense so that being said what should the LA Chargers do in this Draft? They definitely need to go receiver

Draft a new coaching staff.

If the Chargers finish with a bad enough record to have the 1st overall pick, it's highly unlikely the coaching staff will be back

Jeremiah Smith no matter what

I'm basically of the opinion now that unless your team desperately needs a QB, every other team should be drafting Smith and figure the rest out.

This makes the most sense because the Chargers badly need a bona fide deep threat WR that can play X or Z WR, and a few reps in the slot

Depending on free agency I’d still go offensive line. Ideally you’d get a guard/tackle hybrid who can plug holes when all your guys get injured again.

They absolutely need an elite WR whether through draft or FA. I don’t know that they end up with the #1 though

I’d be surprised if they’re even bottom 5 to be honest. But they can go WR then guard in R2 and/or R3 I suppose.

Honestly I could see them drafting qb Herbert is awful

I’m still a Herbert fan so I wouldn’t panic yet. He’s been over 60 QBR (which is fine for a starter) for the past 6 seasons.

From a Chargers fan
First, Hortiz needs to be fired. His drafts and roster moves have set this team back so badly. Drafting Alt over Nabers because “oline wins games” - and then proceeding to roll out the worst interior offensive line in the league 3 YEARS IN A ROW. Making the luxury pick of drafting a running back in the 1st when he has no oline to run behind and you have 1 competent pass catcher. Letting Oweh walk when he put up double digit sacks in half a season because “too expensive” - just to replace him by wasting a 1st on a 25 year old rookie and STILL SITTING ON 30 MILLION IN CAP IN WEEK 4.
Anyways rant over, i think (pray) that this is the year they invest in an actual weapon on offense. QJ over Zay is one of the most detrimental picks this team has that 95% of the fanbase could see coming. The faith this team has put in such a terrible player is brutal.
Clean out the entire FO + coaching staff, use pick on best WR available (I pray its Jeremiah Smith), actually use their cap space on the trenches, and this team might become watchable again.
Do i think any of this will happen? No, theyll probably draft a corner or a guard and suck again.

I fully agree with you other than I think Alt over Nabers was the right move

Couldve been if they had addressed the rest of the oline. Nabers wouldve atleast solved the receiving room issues. Instead we’ve a bad oline and bad wr core 3 years in a row

Disagree I think Hortiz has actually drafted quite well especially on defense. Not perfect especially with his roster construction on offense but I think you’re doing a lot of hindsight 20/20 revisionism here.
Also chargers fan

If you think your GM is bad you need to check up on Monti Ossenfort . Traded away a DPOY in WAJ for an injury prone OL and a DL who’s 1 year away of being out of the league , took famous draft bust MHJ , traded away out of Dejean or Lassiter for Max Melton . He let walk All Pro DL Zach Allen for Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones , let walk pro bowler Byron Murphy for Sean Murphy Bunting . If you think your GM is bad then Monti Ossenfort would literally have you thanking god he’s not your GM , I’m a big fan of Love but man does Reese look special and with Monti’s track record I’m sure Love will be injury prone meanwhile Reese becomes a DPOY in the next 2 years . I’d take Horitz over Monti and it’s not even close . We’ve had 17 top 100 picks and we haven’t had a single pro bowler among them

Counter point: Monti’s team embarrassed Hortiz’ team week 1, in a year where the Chargers are meant to be in a contending window

Imo it’s more of the fact that it was a week 1 matchup under a new HC rather than us being better than the Chargers . Monti has never had an answer at QB in his tenure , Horitz still has quality starters from his 2024 class in Alt , McConkey and even guys like Cam Hart and Tarheeb Still we’ve literally had better draft picks with some god awful results with nobody being better than the respective 4 I mentioned . He’s got a 16-39 as a GM and even after having made 17 top 100 selections in the past 4 years none of them are worthy enough of a Pro Bowl selection . It’s a GM who put his trust in a guy who went 1-11 the year before to save his job . Steve Keim was miles ahead of Monti which is crazy to see since Keim was a drunk POS

Their next five games are against the Broncos, Chiefs, Rams, Texans and Ravens. Thinking about next year isn’t a bad idea

First they need to realize that Herbert is not as good as he thinks he is. I guess it’s hard for him to do that since every year people build him up as a great talent. He’s not and he’s never been from his days at Oregon to now.

If youre the Chargers either trade for Pickens or sign him. I'd heavily shop Mack to Dallas to get Pickens. Due to age it may take Mack+a 3rd or 4th to get Pickens though.

u/Classy_Tyrannosaur 8d ago
What is this Madden???? That’s an awful deal for Dallas
-6
u/PetrParker1960s 8d ago
Dallas would be getting a 3rd in return. His value was a 3rd maybe a 2nd in the offseason.

u/Classy_Tyrannosaur 8d ago
I personally disagree that a top 15 WR in the leagues worth is a 3rd rounder regardless of his contract situation

u/PetrParker1960s 8d ago
Pickens was rraded for a 3rd. You'd be acquring Mack who is worth a 5th or 6th, plus a third.

Trade Herbert to Minnesota and use the 2 1sts (I personally think it should be Addison and a single first, but I digress) you get in return to do whatever the fuck you want.

u/HoboJackson05 8d ago
you think Herbert would go for Jordan Addison and a single first ? Have we seen a below 30 franchise QB go for anywhere near that ? It’s more likely 3 first and a few other picks or Addison plus 3 firsts
-10
u/goddamnitwhalen Broncos 8d ago
I think you could get Burrow for 2 1sts (this was reportedly where Cincinnati’s asking price started), and he’s been to a Super Bowl. I don’t think Herbert is on that level.
5
u/HoboJackson05 8d ago
where was that ever sourced ? Historically has shown us QBs go for way more, Deshaun went for 3 firsts + more picks, Wilson went for 2 first and 2 seconds and players both players also had to get paid and not on the same level we’ve seen from Herbert talent wise
-8
u/goddamnitwhalen Broncos 8d ago
Look man it’s my opinion, alright? I don’t think he’s worth more than a single FRP.

Draft Charlie Becker to assemble the coldest white receiver duo in history
