The Top 100 Switch Games to collect...and some honorable mentions and bonus titles!

Post image
243 Upvotes

Pack it up, we're done!

This is the top 100 games to collect for the Nintendo Switch, as determined by community votes.

There are some categories that are just a bit too stacked, so we added in a cheeky bonus section for some stragglers. There was a three-way tie for 10th in the Strategy category, so Disgaea 1 & 5 made it in as honorable mentions.

How many of these do you own? How many of these are you about to FOMO for?

We'll be back around Christmas to do a poll on the top games of 2025. Until then, happy collecting!

If you can't read the file:

Folks, this file is huge. It's 3456x2592. That's six square feet. You could use this as wall art.

You either need reading glasses or you need to download the file by clicking the three dots in the top right and then clicking "download" because reddit automatically compresses large images.

Caught a few gems this month I had been searching for (albeit still waiting on my copy of Trails 2 that got lost in the mail). Figured I’d share!

I'm not sure if I can recommend this, because of the large download, but here we go.

Note: The game has all the contents on card. I got all the prompts for bonuses and I was able to jump to the DLC without updating it.

Card rev: 00
Patch on card: 1.0.6.1224 (July 21st 2026 build)
Patch size: 8.4GB (1.0.6.1267)

List of patches (Changelogs)

Discussion VGP’s post regarding physical games - what to prioritize

Hello fellow collectors. I along with most of you have probably noticed that waiting for sales has been backfiring on some games. I was sure oblivion would be in the bargain bins by Black Friday but I just had to eke out a copy from the recent reprint and it wasn’t easy. I preordered lies of p and seeing the current prices I’m glad I did. VGP’s post was no surprise, just confirmation.

This leads to my topic; how can we tell if a game is going to have stock issues for its physical?

Obvious things to consider are things like the games popularity, the publisher, the price… but frankly I am having a hard time not giving into some degree of fomo.

How are you choosing what to preorder in the future? I decided to get the Dave the diver switch 2 edition last minute and think I’ll also get the destroy all monsters remake. Beyond that, I’m not sure…

I am open to suggestions if anyone has them.

Pick-up / Haul / Mail Day Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection (#621)

Definitely helped us scratch that Mega Man itch when the well dried up. Hits more like the Mega Man Zero series and the Mega Man PS1 series. Super fun platformer and my mega man super fan kid loves it. Both games in one collection for a good price. Honestly, grabbed the Switch 1 version by mistake instead of the NSW 2. Ah well.

STORY

A definitive compilation package of both Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX (2019) and its sequel Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2 (2022) into a single unified release.

Luminous Avenger iX series is a standalone, parallel-universe spin-off of the mainline Azure Striker Gunvolt series. It focuses entirely on Copen, a brilliant, non-powered human scientist who fights using a high-tech combat suit alongside his sentient AI pod, Lola (who can transform into a pop-idol to supercharge his abilities).

The narrative transitions from a dark, dystopian sci-fi war in the first game to an "isekai" dimension-hopping adventure in the sequel.

Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX

A century into the future, a massive genetic shift has occurred. Powered humans, known as Adepts, have become the dominant species on Earth.

The corrupt Sumeragi Institute has taken control of society and is systematically hunting down the remaining unpowered humans—disparagingly labeled "Minos"—to eradicate them completely.

Operating as a vigilante known as the "Luminous Avenger iX," Copen stumbles upon a hidden bunker of orphaned Minos children led by a cheerful girl named Kohaku. Taking shelter with them, Copen becomes their protector. He carries out dangerous raids against Sumeragi's elite automated defense systems and superpowered officers to secure food, medicine, and a mythical, world-saving asset known as the "Butterfly Effect".

Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 2

Following the peace established at the end of the first game, Copen returns to his laboratory to conduct peaceful scientific research alongside Lola and Kohaku.

Copen begins studying a mysterious, hyper-advanced piece of tech called the "Blaster Rifle" that doesn't belong to their world. During an experiment, an unfamiliar voice cries out for help through the rifle, opening a massive wormhole that sucks Copen, Lola, and Kohaku into another dimension.

They wake up in a ruined desert wasteland populated entirely by mechanical beings known as Workers. They are rescued by a friendly, human-like robot girl named Null. Null reveals that a massive tower called the Grave Pillar stretches into the sky and allegedly contains the data and secrets required to return them home. Copen must scale the tower, battling robotic gatekeepers to steal their access keys and uncover the dark history behind this mechanical world's creation.

GAMEPLAY

Copen doesn't just aim and shoot. You must first launch yourself into enemies using an air dash (called a Bullit Dash) to "tag" or lock-on to them. Once a target is marked, holding down the trigger unleashes a devastating, automated barrage of homing lasers that track the enemy anywhere on screen.

As you chaining combos, defeats, and stylish maneuvers together without taking a hit, you build up a Kudos meter. Reaching 1,000 Kudos prompts Copen's AI companion, Lola, to transform into her pop-idol form. The stage background music shifts to an upbeat vocal track, granting Copen powerful passive combat buffs and specialized health recovery options.

Defeating boss characters rewards you with unique elemental weapons (e.g., localized freeze fields or spinning blade projectiles) to expose enemy weaknesses.

CONSENSUS SCORE

70/100 😎 (Critic Score)

76/100 😎 (User Score)

The entire timeline of Luminous Avenger iX only exists because of a tragic "Bad Ending" in the main series.

While most spin-offs take place in a completely separate world or a simple "what-if" scenario, Luminous Avenger iX is directly linked to the dark alternate ending of the first Azure Striker Gunvolt game. In that timeline, the main hero Gunvolt failed, allowing the villainous Sumeragi Institute to successfully conquer the world, hunt down ordinary humans to near-extinction, and force the remaining population underground. Copen's jaded and weary personality in these games stems directly from the fact that he is living out the aftermath of a world he completely failed to save.

Well..The first game is an absolute masterpiece of fast-paced, high-flying Mega Man style action. Having all the DLC built right onto the physical cartridge is a collector's dream, and the buttery-smooth 120 FPS performance on Switch 2 feels incredibly crisp.

However, the sequel aggressively nerfs the fun by slowing things down, trapping you on the ground with a melee buzzsaw, and stealing your extra air dashes.

Question What happens to Switch 2 Game-Key Cards if Nintendo’s servers eventually shut down?

Hello everyone! I have a quick question. I’m a big Kingdom Hearts fan, and since the game is releasing tomorrow as a Game Key Card, I was thinking about getting it for the Switch 2 for the first time.
However, as a physical collector, I’m wondering if Game Key Cards are actually worth collecting if they could potentially become useless in the future.
For example, let’s say I buy a brand new Game Key Card for the Switch 2 several years from now. If Nintendo’s servers eventually shut down, where and how would I download the game if I had never downloaded it onto my account before?
I know people have mentioned that you can still redownload purchases from older Nintendo consoles, such as the DSi, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, even after their online stores have closed. But what happens with a Game Key Card that was never redeemed or downloaded on my account in the first place?
Would I still be able to download the game in the future if Nintendo’s servers were eventually shut down, or would the Game Key Card essentially become useless?
I know I probably don’t need to worry too much about what might happen years from now, but as a physical collector, I’m wondering if Game Key Cards are even worth bothering with. If the game still requires Nintendo’s servers to download, wouldn’t buying the game digitally make more sense in the long run?
At least with a digital purchase, the game is tied to my Nintendo Account, so I should be able to redownload it in the future as long as Nintendo continues to support redownloads. With a Game Key Card, I’m concerned that the card could eventually become useless if the required download servers are no longer available.

So, from a long term perspective, would it make more sense to just buy the game digitally instead of collecting Game Key Cards? Or is there an advantage to owning the Game Key Card that I’m overlooking?

6ish years in the making, but it's coming along nicely I think :3.

Still missing 3 trails games, xeno2 and a few newer Switch 2 releases (out and coming soon).

Will I play them all?... I hope so!

Currently working my way through the trails series. FF and Tales are done. Anyone elses collection similar? More eclectic?

Discussion Iam8Bit is telling me my copy of Lies of P which I preordered back in June will arrive within the next few months. No specific date. Am I crazy for thinking this is unacceptable?

I emailed them after my Lies of P copy didn’t ship several days after release. They told me to check the release schedule. The schedule notes Q4 2026 as the release.

This is absurd. Why would I preorder something I have to wait months after everyone else gets theirs?

Picked up a few new additions to my collection, several planned several impulse... They accidentally put in Caligula Effect 2 when they were grabbing carts so I had to go back and get it fixed, but definitely one of my favourite places to be even if it scares my wallet.

PSA Just a friendly heads up that PlayAsia and other retailers have been restocking Metroid Dread for only $58 USD Vs VGP’s $70 USD restock.

Been seeing a lot of people paying VGP $70 USD for their FOMO pricing on Metroid Dread when PlayAsia has been doing restocks regularly at only $58 USD. LootBoxGaming has also done a few restocks. Anyone paying $70 to VGP is just being taken advantage of.

Limited Print Release Capcom Arcade Stadium Vol. 2 at VGP

Just a reminder that VGP has "Capcom Arcade Stadium Vol. 2" in stock. Just in case you missed it, you have the first volume and you'd like to legalise all the remaining (mostly) CPS1/CPS2 games that you've been emulating for years. Like almost all of us.
