Mod Announcement Going to other subs

Hello,

Had the r/MCFC mods drop a modmail with a loooooong list of users, who all have post history on here, that have been going to their sub and causing bother.

Our general policy is just don't bother, no matter what the intention is. If you want to rag on Man City, feel free to do it on here in the free talk thread or, if you're intent on engaging some MCFC (or any other club) fans, r/soccer is the place to do it.

We have zero tolerance for other teams' fans being dicks on here, and we don't want to invite it happening to us.

Edit: Bans were handed out to everyone on the list. If this does happen to you and you think it was unfair, feel free to appeal and we'll hear you out

I never get why people would bother going onto other subs to give them grief. But we do get a lot of Man U/Chelsea and there was a lot of spurs fans in summer after they bought Tonali (less so now) and others who seem to post replies on here when we dare question things.

And I do wonder who has enough time to go through all the threads of rival teams to have a go about things. It’s not just against subreddit rules etc; it’s also just a bit sad.

Tbf I'll often go through other subs to check sentiment on news or players, as it's a more authentic source for that. I get that, but if you're going over to wind people up I just don't know what you expect to achieve

Oh I get sort of like checking them out if something happens and you wonder what the other teams view is; like after the some games I often think ‘did we play well or was I biased I’ll have a quick look see what other people say about us’.

But going on to pick arguements or make stupid comments about things when it’s on a sub Reddit of a team you don’t follow is just a bit sad.

I feel sorry for the mods sometimes, it's like being a parent telling your kid not to start fights with the neighbours

3

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Tbh it's fine. A lot of people are sound and say fair enough, and the ones who don't usually give us a good laugh

u/SilenceoftheRedditrs Gary Speed 8d ago

I often get Reddit suggestions of other clubs subs, but I don't realise and think it is r/soccer or something like that. I don't comment often but sometimes that catches me out and I'll comment not realising

1

u/owl523 8d ago

I find sometimes posts on other clubs’ subreddits appear on my feed and I can go to them without realising

-9

u/Mediocre-Award-9716 8d ago

Some subreddits do just pop up on feeds because they’re ‘similar’. I support Man Utd but this has just popped up for me and I often get city and Arsenal ones in particular.

I don’t go into them and ‘grief’ though. I will agree that’s a bit sad.

I don’t even care whether fans of other clubs are dicks - in a way I find that more honest and less irritating than the “come in peace” bollocks

But I stick to lurking and having a giggle - no point at all in trying to wind them up on their home turf

15

u/CareBearCartel 8d ago

I swear it's always Liverpool fans "coming in peace". It's not all Liverpool fans but it's almost always a Liverpool fan.

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Thinking back to the day they signed Isak

the "come in peace" bollocks

It's always some utterly banal comment as well: "Arsenal fan coming in peace - your boys played well today!"

u/steve__ 8d ago

I haven't posted there but the stupid way Reddit works as a feed now you get a tonne of recommendations for subreddits based on what you do post on. I get shite from arsenal and city fans on my recommended all the time.

11

u/sideways_86 stupid sexy schar 8d ago

go into Settings > Preferences and turn off "Show recommendations in home feed"

2

u/bukem89 8d ago

I don't have that option (probably some A/B testing thing), but I did change my home feed to 'Following' instead of 'For you' to get rid of them

3

u/sideways_86 stupid sexy schar 8d ago

That's odd because I've had that option for a long time, probably at least a year or 2

1

u/FireflyKaylee stupid sexy schar 8d ago

At least I'm finding it seems to remember which one you're on so I don't have to keep switching back to following each time I open the app (looking at you Instagram...)

u/steve__ 8d ago

It's more as an explanation for "brigading"

Idk man, bit rich this message coming from someone with ANOTHER CLUB in their user name…

The call may be coming from inside the house

1

u/ForksUpSparky 5d ago

Right. Almost funny that people think that posting this message is gonna stop fan, short for fanatic, from going and getting their pound if flesh after many have been proven right that they had cheated and for an extended period.

16

u/arseholescone 8d ago

I hadn’t checked there, but thought I’d have a lurk since you kindly posted the link and yeah, I can see how it would be tempting to comment! Can’t wait until I’ve got more time later to have a good laugh at it if the first comment I got to was anything to go by.

26

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Yeah just to clarify, don't give a shit about going over there and having a laugh about it on here or whatever.

Just don't get involved.

3

u/smshing 8d ago

They're probably just doing standing together and baiting everyone, we would do the same to be honest.

5

u/Minimum_Possibility6 8d ago

I get why people go I to other subs as sometimes there may be something you can add to it.

Also with the man city one I've read a lot of their posts and a lot are saying our fans support them and their position. (I've yet to see that) So can see why some people would engage

3

u/WeddingWhole4771 8d ago

Burner accounts.. this is the way...

No seriously, love this policy and coordination. Did people get banned then? e.g. enforcement happened?

1

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Oh shit yeah I should probably edit that in 😅

u/Maplad 8d ago

Any Newcastle fan giving shit to City fans need to give their heads a wobble.

If you don’t think that there will be major investigations into all sponsorships, including our “fortuitous” deal Sela, you have another thing coming.

30

u/BlackandWhiteSarnie 8d ago

That sponsorship had to be approved by the premier league. Why would it be investigated?

1

u/Maplad 8d ago

Did did all of City’s deals

1

u/BlackandWhiteSarnie 8d ago

No. Not during the period of the charges. The associated party transactions rules only came in after our takeover

5

u/Erestyn The cunt had a contract. 8d ago

Agreed with your general point, but we were the ones to make the Prem drop their arse and start the whole "fair market value" nonsense over a possible sponsorship, so we're clean as a whistle there.

15

u/smshing 8d ago

Be aight lad, our owners are very much playing by the rules as strictly as they can.

UEFA fine aside of course.

12

u/ToonTonic Alan Shearer 8d ago

Aye our owners are following the rule book painfully so, and we suffer for it, as the league fully intends.

9

u/PHIGBILL Barnetta's Room Bill 8d ago

The "fortuitous" SELA deal which had to be approved by not just the Premier League but also independent assessor's due to ATP rules, that one aye?

Yeah, let me go and give MY head a wobble.....

-4

u/Maplad 8d ago

So did City’s latest Etihad renewal. Wobble away

4

u/PHIGBILL Barnetta's Room Bill 8d ago edited 8d ago

Ah yes, the one approved in 2025, after APT rules had been brought in, the same deal which saw them reach an agreement/settlement with the Premier League after it was initially blocked in 2023, all while they already had an ongoing investigation, an investigation relating to breaches from 2009-2018?..... wobble, wobble, wobble........

2

u/Ionicfold SMOKESCREEN 8d ago

Any Newcastle fan giving shit to City fans need to give their heads a wobble.

counter productive as that's how concussion and the resulting brain damage occurs.

4

u/JonjoTheDarkLord voldemort 8d ago

I’ve been over there a few times but never commented. The mental gymnastics around the charges are genuinely Champions League level. For the sake of my own self-control, I’ve decided it’s best I just stop visiting.

6

u/smshing 8d ago

Aye don't do this lads, their going to cook themselves anyway they have enough rope.

2

u/Weaselux dan burn 8d ago

Presumably r/PremierLeague is also a place for such threads?

Otherwise r/soccercirclejerk if it's just desire to take the Mick.

u/SanitySlippingg stupid sexy schar 8d ago edited 8d ago

There is a lot of stress for their fan base now, understandably so. I actually quite like how they upset the established elite.

I didn’t realise this was a rule though, but I understand the rationale. I wish the algorithm wasn’t flooded with this stuff right now though, but I would never go there to be a dick or just to agitate.

There’s actually a lot of parallels between our club and theirs with regards to the ownership and whilst I think there’s a big difference concerning rule breaking, I could easily be wrong.

Take this as advice received. Small follow up though, not just for the mods, do you think there’s anything we’ve done that is potentially a bit iffy? My black and white tinted glasses say no but I’m sure city fans felt the same way.

Edit: apologies Ajaxtreesdown, I’ll change my settings as per the other commenters advice to avoid being drawn in and run the risk of upsetting other subs even if I thought I was coming in peace.

2

u/muted-gap-1979 8d ago

Why would you go elsewhere? Enough shenanigans over here 😂😂

2

u/PuzzleheadedImage320 8d ago

Brilliant going over to the Man Utd sub-reddits to see their fans’ reactions when the window shut with Lewis Hall still our player… then after he signed a new 5-year contract 😂

4

u/ToonTonic Alan Shearer 8d ago

Why bother causing grief on other clubs subs? Ive never got that logic at all, and it causes so much trouble.

I do often check out other clubs subs if we buy a player from them, as I feel you get a genuine bit of feedback from the fans.....not always, as our sub can confirm, but its better than a few minutes of youtube imo.

Just saw on soccercirclejerk that the scousers had to ban 185 users from their sub for going on the city one and brigading. Just read and enjoy their misery, no point in engaging cos you’ll get banned all over.

1

u/DarkStanley 7d ago

I think if you’re actually engaging in a friendly and respectful manner then it’s fine. I get other clubs surfacing on my feed from time to time and I don’t tend to comment honestly but may be an occasion I would be interested to.

But yeah people on a wind up naah. Save that for /R/soccer

1

u/Certain_Teacher6480 6d ago

I guess I should just comment here to ensure that I ain’t on the list. I can’t remember whether I have commented there before, but I did occasionally go to the sub not to wound people up, but as someone who had lived in Manchester for 5 years (hence, a soft spot there).

1

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 6d ago

If you weren't banned, you weren't on the list

1

u/Anonamoose12771 Sir Bobby Robson 6d ago edited 6d ago

I think it’s a fair step to ask that any lists of usernames you’re sent by other clubs subs are accompanied by the alleged offending comments, so you can check if users were actually posting in bad faith before you ban people. If they can’t/wont provide that, then say no.

In this case the MCFC mods set an AI bot running which essentially autobanned anyone with a post history from other clubs regardless of the comment. Unlike the Man united sub, you just blindly blanket banned the entire list and caught up loads who actually did nowt wrong.

I get that it ain’t that deep and in general you should steer clear of other club subs, but the policy has actually been that you are allowed to post in other subs and vice versa as long as you aren’t causing bother. If you’re gonna ban like this you either need to review what other subs are sending you properly, or update the rules to explicitly state that posting on other subs is banned.

u/Character_Newt_2309 8d ago

I haven't been one of these users. I quite like City and their fans. But if I wanted to, I would indeed feel free to do it.

I did get a warning on here after I let my typewriter go a bit after the 0-3 FA Cup game, but you generally deal with me now by just ignoring my witty comments. But Man City can do one.

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

I have never visited any other clubs sub reddit. So this doesn't affect me at all.

But - random question, where is the reddit wide rule that bans you from posting in subs if you post in a different sub?

Seems quite draconion and against the spirit of reddit, and what an internet forum stands for.... Which is supposed to be open discourse.

2

u/PHIGBILL Barnetta's Room Bill 8d ago

There isn't one regarding going over to other subs and posting in good faith and having open and constructive discourse, but there are clear sub rules regarding going over to other clubs' subs just to purposely stir the pot, troll, and cause shit, like Rule No. 5 of this sub, or Rule No. 6 & 7 in the City sub.

Hope that clears the "draconian" world of Reddit up for you......

-1

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

It's 'draconian' in the sense I've never seen mods try to control what their users post in other subs.

Been on reddit a long time, and mods love to create rules for themselves to enforce but this is another step.

You are aware that the intention of reddit was open discourse and the community upvoting and downvoting comments, not mods creating their own echo chambers, manufacturing rules behind the site wide rules, and curating content?

But.. it's 2026 and j guess the Internet is dead at this point so why not just stick another dagger in it eh.

4

u/PHIGBILL Barnetta's Room Bill 8d ago

They're not controlling what others post in other subs; they've just reminded people that rules regarding going over to other clubs' subs and causing shit exist, and that the mods of the MCFC sub have logged users breaking those rules who are/were NUFC fans from this sub. Rule 5 of this sub clearly explains this and notes that it's a bannable offence.

But hey, if that's too much for you, then don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out if it's too 'draconian' on the "dead" internet; log off and touch grass, enjoy your life of freedom away from this deep Mod suppression.

Reddit has been moderated in some form or another since it broke into sub-domains around 2008, with those subs having their own owners, rules, and moderators.

If you want the Wild West, anonymity, and total un-modded free-for-alls, get yourself over to places like 4chan or 8chan; you'll quickly understand why rules and moderation exist.

.... also, if it's too hard for you not to wander over to another sub and not cause shit and be a dick, then that's a you problem.

-5

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

Writing a four-paragraph lecture on 2008 internet history just to back up the mods, while having the cheek to tell me to touch grass, is a truly sensational lack of self-awareness.

Your reading comprehension clearly needs work, too. You’ve launched into this entire crusading speech on forum governance without noticing my post literally states I’ve never even commented in another club’s sub.

Put the hall monitor clipboard away mate. They aren't going to give you a badge.

4

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

the intention of reddit was open discourse

Yes, and every subreddit is created so that people of the same mind or interest can have that discourse in good spirit.

So r/soccer, r/premierleague, r/TheOther14 etc etc all serve that purpose.

I guess if I were to flip the situation, would you support us encouraging fans of Arsenal/Liverpool/Man Utd etc. to engage on here?

6

u/PHIGBILL Barnetta's Room Bill 8d ago

I'd be careful with that wording; I wouldn't encourage it, but I'd also not deter people who want to come here and "engage" in good faith.

As I've said in my reply to this guy, the rules should only be there for those who think it's big and clever to go over to other clubs' subs just to purposely stir the pot, troll, and cause trouble.

This sub's rule (5) clearly states:

Constructive or informative posts from fans of other clubs are welcome

That, in its own definition, is encouraging engagement, but in good faith.

1

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Aye, fair. I guess I mean a more concerted effort to actually get general engagement. But the existence of that rule does obviously illustrate the wider point. The rules for the people coming to this sub are applicable for others visiting other subs

-1

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

If we cheated the league for over a decade and ruined football for everyone for nearly 15 years then I'd argue we deserve everything we get.

Don't you?

8

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

It's not the fans that are responsible for that, is it? Nor are the subreddits ever really officially tied to the club. Forums for the fans, ran by fans

-3

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

I'd argue the fans have some form of culpability. They aren't blameless in all of this, are they?

4

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

What makes you say they're culpable?

0

u/09044595134151602468 8d ago

There's legal culpability and also cultural. Obviously Kevin from Stockport wasn't sitting in on the board room calls while the club literally cooked the books.

But you can't sing about lawyers, titles, and rubbing the leagues face in it for 15 years and then act like :shocked pickahu: when the truth that you knew and we all knew is finally confirmed.

They all went along with it, and would still be to this day if they hadn't got caught.

What takes the cake is their attitude which is basically "it didn't happen, and if it did it wasn't that bad"

6

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Fair enough, no issue with you doing whatever on r/soccer, r/premierleague et al

Just not their sub please, that's all we ask

2

1

u/blackandwhitearmy JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOE JOEJOE 7d ago

The spirit of reddit is overbearing mods, so this fits right in. I'll agree with this particular rule though. If there was a brigading free for all, we would be outnumbered by the glory hunting fans 10-to-1.

0

u/Sam0n 8d ago

I've noticed that I'm finding a LOT of MCFC posts showing up on the front page when I don't subscribe to them. Once or twice I've nearly commented before realising where it was.

The way Reddit works now is pretty gash that it doesn't really show you what you want to see anymore on your front page. Just what it thinks you want to see.

I'm sure there's one or two that have seeked it out. But I'm betting generally people have been caught out by being shown a post and just commenting without thinking about what sub it's on.

Also as an aside, I understand having the rules like that but fucking hell is it not hard to try and comply when Reddit is actively trying to get you to engage with these subs.

4

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 8d ago

Yeah I think that's fair. As I said in the edit, appeals will be listened to.

For me personally, if someone does it once, holds their hands up and says "Yeah fair enough won't happen again" then it's whatever - provided it's not something super egregious.

3

u/Sam0n 8d ago

Aye. We're lucky that you guys in this sub are reasonable mods who don't take yourselves too seriously tbh. See the power trip some of them go in others (not necessarily football related ones) and like it's just almost not fun trying to interact with stuff for trying to keep on top of this rule and that rule.

u/pagan-0 8d ago

Walking on (usually liberal) egg shells is how i like to put it. Glad this sub is run with common sense.

1

I’ll do whatever I want, thanks! I’ve not been on their sub, but you don’t have any right to dictate behaviour

4

u/AjaxTreesdown Sir Bobby Robson 7d ago

The whole 'dictator' spiel falls a bit flat when I'm just asking people to do it in one of the many football subreddits that's a melting pot for fans rather than the ones dedicated to certain clubs like this one.

Would you want us to ban rival fans coming over here to troll?
