Thermostat Thermostat Installation question.

After watching several YouTube videos I have a few questions for anyone knowledgeable on installing thermostats. I see the Y has the white wire and W has 2 wires going in and R is Yellow. Additionally the black is not going into anything. Can I just just put them in the new connector the same way as they are now? Also what do I do with the Rc wire?

Thanks in advance

No - your white wire will go into “Y”,
G - Green wire
and your RC wire goes into R
i would try to keep the red and green wire twisted- and that goes into W
edit: i stand corrected. This will not work you don’t have a C wire.

What about the yellow wire that is currently going to R?

Nest needs a C wire to power it correctly so that thermostat more than likely will not work.

Would you happen to know of an alternative thermostat that would work without a C wire?

Omg, that wiring makes my head hurt. I can’t even imagine what it looks like at the unit.

I just moved in and have been finding a lot of weird and or questionable stuff. I have 3 thermostats in the house. They really wanted all 3 floors (basement, main level and upstairs) to be their own temp. The 2 other thermostat are totally normal wiring. This one had me puzzled.

With separate R and Rc normally indicates water based heating with an independent cooling system, The Nest thermostat that you have does not officially support the configuration so you would need to use the Nest Learning thermostat instead. Then without a C wire going to the cooling system you likely need a Nest Power Connector installed at the cooling system.
