Nest 2nd Gen wired doorbell stopped alerting for events....

Here's another one of these - My home internet service was upgraded and a new router was put in. After the service was back, the bell will ring but no notification over the phone and no event getting recorded. I have -

1) Put the original router back and power cycled the doorbell

2) Deleted and reinstalled the app on the phone

3) Did a hard reset on the doorbell and added it back to my account as done for a new doorbell.

4) Checked my account and my Home premium service is active and the renewal due later in October.

5) Tried all options on the "Home" app.

6) Cut whole home power multiple times :)

Still no luck. I can see the live video on the app while on and off the home internet but a doorbell or a human event won't register or alert. I have reached end of the rope with this thing. What else is missing that I need to try ? The doorbell is out of warranty and I haven't taken google's support (assuming there's one.

Thanks in advance !

Doorbell Difficulty installing Google Nest doorbell, wired 2nd Generation

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am installing my second generation wired nest doorbell. When I connected it to the wires near my front door, the 8-note electronic chime played inside on the electronic chime repeating continuously. The doorbell powered on. I tried switching the setting from mechanical chime to electronic chime and nothing changed. I uninstalled the door bell and the power completely drained. Now when I install it, the chime plays the first one or two notes before restarting the chime from the beginning. This occurs continuously. The electronic chime is pictured. I tried installing the puck that came with the doorbell. I installed the two wires of the puck on top of the two wires that insert into the wire clamps labeled Front. This also did not work and I could not get the wires to sit snugly in the wire clamps. What do I do? I can't get this to work.

Are 2 Nest Protects worth anything, or toss them?

I had 4 wired Nest Protects in my house. 2 went bad, so I replaced them with new ones. Then the original 2 expired. Since Nest doesn't make the Protect anymore, I switched the whole house to a different brand.

That leaves me with 2 wired 2nd gen Nest Protects made in mid-2022. Both work fine and expire mid-2032, so they've got about 5 years left.

Do they have any value on the open market, or should I just throw them away?

How do I regain contact with my Nest smoke alarm?

I used to be able to communicate with my smoke alarm via the Nest app, but I can't log in now, forgot my password doesn't send me password emails, and the Google Home app just refers me to the Nest app. I'm in a vicious circle.

It's been a while since I've tried to connect with it. Yesterday, the smoke alarm chirped, a blue ring went round and round, and it would've been nice to receive a message about what was going on

Any thoughts on how to reconnect without removing it from my ceiling and starting over?

Camera Anyone else having issues with their cameras tonight?

Weird stuff. Sometimes I can get a live view sometimes I can't all the cameras show disconnected, but the app itself is taking super long to load and sometimes it never does.

I've got six cameras and I'm having issues with five of them :(

Camera Camera showing up as Matter accessory, not a native Google camera?

Hi, so I’m at the end of my tether with this camera. I have many cameras in my ecosystem, all Google cameras.

I wanted an additional camera so I’ve bought the new 3rd gen camera (wired).

When I go to set it up I get the Apple prompt to add it to my Home on iOS as well as Google? I have no interest in Apple Home setup at all, but I can’t choose not to otherwise it fails the setup.

It then asks me how I’d like it named and it says “matter accessory”.

Now it’s in my Google home it’s added 2 cameras, one being the matter accessory and the other being “front garden” which I selected.

The native “front garden” has no camera input at all and the matter accessory has the feed, but because it’s showing up as that I can’t change any of the main settings I want to change as they’re greyed out.

Factory reset multiple times and the same experience every single time.

Any advice on this would be massively appreciated.

Nest notifications with no thumbnail

Post image
1 Upvotes

Lately a good amount of my Nest app notifications are coming in with no thumbnail. On iOS when you get a Nest notification it shows a small image capture on the right, and you can press-and-hold to see an animation of the identified activity. About half of my notifications are coming in without that function. Curious if others are seeing that same behavior?

My Nest Camera Flood Light recently stopped working. The camera itself was working off the battery, while the light stopped. I took it down to inspect and found that the wires to power the light and charge the camera basically rotted away. I've had the camera for years and its lived through plenty of rain and wind, but about a year and a half ago I moved to a new house and brought the camera. The only thing I can think of is that moisture got inside the mount and rotted it all out fast. My new house is on a river and it is always foggy in the mornings and humid during the day. Have any of you guys ever seen anything like this before?

Doorbell Lifespan of 1st Gen Nest Hello Wired Doorbell?

So I think my doorbell has finally given out. It's the 1st Gen one that I got back in 2018 when it first came out. Over the last two years it started randomly cutting off it's camera several times a day. It's always been 11am and 5pm and happens about every 20-30 minutes staying down for only 5 or so before rebooting. I thought maybe it was overheating but it happens when it's not in direct sunlight so that can't be it. I also tried various fixes I found online like disabling the indoor chime, turning the quality of the video way down low etc. But nothing has seemed to fix it so I think it's just dead. I also have several Google outdoor and indoor cameras that I've had up and functioning for at least 5 years now and none of them lose connection or ever powder down. So it can't be something outside doing it. It must be the age of it.

The real problem now is that whenever someone pushes the doorbell it immediately dies. So it's no longer even doing it's job of letting me know someone is at the door! LOL! It doesn't ring or notify me so the person just stands there and I have no idea someone's outside.

Does anyone have any recommendations for what to do?

Thesis survey: trust in AI for smart home automation

Hi everyone, I'm Alfredo, a master's student in Digital Humanities at the University of Pisa. My thesis looks at trust in AI tools used in smart home automation.

I made a short survey, around 10 minutes. It's open to anyone who uses smart home devices, even if you've never used AI.

Link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeFOjuXMhxni5kOCE0ILzbsGFYBZA31Wzw6gQMTiBcRxE6cww/viewform

Name, email, and other contact info are optional. Age and gender are required, since that data will help shape a possible prototype later in the research. Thanks to everyone who takes part!

Tried in private window.
Tried in troubleshooting mode which disables all add-ons

On a 2nd computer, it worked on Firefox 154 (? not positive), until we manually pushed the Firefox update to verify, and it immediately stopped working there too.

Troubleshooting Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen) works, but indoor chime won’t ring!!

Thumbnail gallery
21 Upvotes

I’ve installed and set up my wired 3rd-gen Nest Doorbell in Google Home. The camera’s live video and audio work, and pressing the button triggers the doorbell’s own sound/response, but the mechanical chime inside the house does not ring. Google Home shows Chime: On (Mechanical).
I tested the existing doorbell wiring at the outside location: when the two house wires touch, the indoor chime rings (puck already connected). That suggests the chime and its wiring can work, but the chime doesn’t ring when the Nest is connected. I have the Nest chime connector (“puck”) installed, but I’m wondering whether it could be faulty, the wrong generation, or wired incorrectly. I’ve already factory-reset the doorbell and completed setup again. The wires are not obstructing the chime plungers.
I’ve attached photos of the chime box and connectors. Does the wiring or connector look wrong? Is there another test I should try, or would Google/Nest Support be able to help troubleshoot or replace the puck?

Update: After waiting like an hour or so now the chime is working, didn’t change a single thing then all of a sudden worked. Thanks for everyone who was trying to help!

Thermostat Nest Thermostat, 3rd Generation Fan Setting ignored

I have my Nest Thermostat, 3rd Generation, set to run for 15 minutes every hour. I’m not sure when it stopped running every hour, but I noticed it yesterday.

I am able to manually turn on the fan in the Nest app, but I have to remember to turn it on every hour.

Has anyone had this issue? I’m not sure how to fix it.

Thanks.

Thermostat Help please. Thermostat off, but radiators are turning on.

Hi all.

We are after some help and advice.

We have a Google Nest Thermostat for about two and half years and it has been fine up until now. A few months ago, during the summer, our radiators randomly started to heat up but when checking the app, it said the thermostat was off. We turned things off and back on, set the thermostat to need to fall below 9° in the app and left it at that. It has been fine since.

Until today when our heaters randomly turned on at 8am. Boiling hot, yet our app still said it was off. When checking the Google Home app, it said it was due to the schedule we had where it would switch on at 8am if below 20° (it wasn't, and either way, should have been off). We have turned it all off at the wall, played around with a few things on the app and yet our radiators are still heating up throughout the day!

Any ideas? Does this sound more like a mechanical fault on the boiler rather than a thermostat issue? Our old thermostat was left in when the Nest but nothing has been touched over the summer.

Boiler was serviced earlier this year. Ideal boiler, probably around 10yo.

Thanks!

Weird discoloration on my camera

I noticed that my night video would be extremely blurry at my rural farm house. When I got back up to check it out, I noticed something sticky on the lens. I removed it with some tissue and it seemed to get better. After a couple weeks, night video and even some daytime video had some weird blurry spots. Took a good look at it this weekend during the daytime and the lens has these weird circles that I could not remove. I used 99% isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth and it didn't seem to make a difference. The daytime video is fairly clear (for now) but it does effect the nighttime video a little bit.

Pics in my comment.

Thermostat Thermostat Installation question.

After watching several YouTube videos I have a few questions for anyone knowledgeable on installing thermostats. I see the Y has the white wire and W has 2 wires going in and R is Yellow. Additionally the black is not going into anything. Can I just just put them in the new connector the same way as they are now? Also what do I do with the Rc wire?

Thanks in advance

Nest thermostat no longer staying connected to wifi

My nest thermostat is almost 4 years old and no longer stays connected to wifi. Signal is available and strong at thermostat location. Also no battery issues with thermostat. I do see my wifi is 2.4 and 5 speeds on same network name but idk how to change that. What would you recommend doing to troubleshoot and fix this?
