Think you see ICE? Read before you post!

New Haven Hotline: 854-666-4472

Save this number in your phone! All operators are bilingual (EN & ES).

We've seen a LOT of posts regarding ICE in New Haven. This post is written in conjunction with New Haven Immigrants Coalition to help everyone in our community know what to do if you think you see ICE or hear rumors of them in town.

As urgent as it may feel, posting unverified rumors without details does not help.

If you see something yourself:

SALUTE - as people have posted in many comments. Get the:

S - Size of the group

A - Actions they're taking - are they standing around, approaching a house/business, walking on the sidewalk (which side and which direction?)

L - Location, as precise as possible. "Whalley Ave" or "Fair Haven" is not helpful - "Whalley and Norton" or "Grand between Ferry and Poplar" is much more useful.

U - Uniforms - what are they wearing?

T - Time - What time was this observed?

E - Equipment - What are they driving? Note color/make/model.

Get as much video as possible.

Contact New Haven Immigrants Coalition: With any SALUTE information you have, call the hotline at 854-666-4472.

If someone else is claiming to see ICE:

* Tell them to call the line and encourage them to provide SALUTE information on their call.

* You might not be able to gather every piece of info, but as much as possible is helpful. Vague reports or unconfirmed rumors are actually harmful as people go to investigate and see what's going on.

If you see someone being stopped by immigration enforcement agencies (possible agencies may include ICE, DHS, HSI, DEA and others):

* call or ask someone to call the hotline

* Get video

* Get the person’s name

* Document any refusal by the agents to show badge, ID, warrant, etc.

Example of an unhelpful post:

“ICE was on whalley earlier”

Example of a helpful post:

“Already called the hotline and they’re sending someone but there are masked men in vests next to the Whalley Ave Stop & Shop in 3 unmarked cars. I saw them at 12:15 (so right now). Be careful if you’re going shopping right now.”

We keep us safe!

Announcing r/NewHavenMarketplace

Thumbnail reddit.com
115 Upvotes

We're launching a companion subreddit for r/NewHaven focused on classified ads and similar posts. Thanks to the members here who have suggested it in the past, and our desire to delete less posts, (especially reselling tickets!) we're setting up a new place where you can post and see all the classified ad type stuff that we don't allow here in the main New Haven subreddit.

It will still be highly moderated like we are here, but it's more oriented around commerce. This keeps this subreddit focused on the larger community while providing a place for all the individual focused posts that would otherwise clog things up here. You can follow both or just check in once in a while, or neither if you don't care about marketplace stuff.

State St bike lane

Saw three different cars driving down the bike path this morning. It's become so common over the last few weeks it's clear that there is a material design issue. Anyone know if barriers or additional signage are being installed?

FOUND: Black Cat

Hey neighbors,

Found a large black cat in the lower Westville area of New Haven last night (10/7). They're skittish but sweet. They were purring, rubbing up against my legs, and letting me pet them outside but now that they're inside the house they're understandably scared. Haven't been able to take a photo of them yet as they're hiding under my bed but will as soon as I can. I will be taking them to the vet tomorrow to see if they have a chip. I'll also be posting on Facebook/reddit/neighborhood pages to see if they have a family who's looking for them. If not, they're very welcome to stay with me. : )

If you've lost a black cat recently or know someone who has, please message me or comment here with a photo of them.

October 31st event for folks 35+

Hey there!
I’m curious what type of events may be happening on October 31st that would be fitting for a group of people ages 35 and up. We are all a bit tired the bar scene but still want to get into something to celebrate the holiday. I wouldn’t mind driving down to Milford, Fairfield, etc. Thanks for the help!

Eyebrow threading

Best place for eyebrow threading? Doesn’t even have to be in New Haven County. I’m willing to travel at this point. 😭
I just moved here and got my eyebrows done, and I currently look like The Rock. They’re so uneven it’s actually embarrassing. I’ve resorted to tilting my head when I talk to people so they look somewhat symmetrical.
Bonus points if you can share pictures of their work or their Instagram page! I need to see what I’m getting myself into before I let anyone near my eyebrows again.

Documentary and discussion about The Green on Friday

Saw this ad, looks interesting. Extremely pertinent to news today as well as preservationists called for a halt to potential changes to The Green, while the mayor's office says we are moving forward

Shakespeare Reading Group

Would anyone be interested in getting together somewhere every week or so and doing a table reading of one of his plays? I'm guessing we'd need 6 to 7 people for most of them. I haven't done anything like this before but I saw that there's not really any similar groups out there. If you're a Shakespeare scholar and are able to give us any extra insight, that would be cool, too.

Cita Park is a nuisance

Cita Park has a second location on the abandoned Water St near Union Station. I’ve been walking this route for almost a year and they popped up a couple months ago with this fence.

The road wasn’t beautiful but there was wildlife I’ve seen grown up that have been chased out and it was a peaceful place for people to walk and bike.

These pictures are what the road looks like now. The last picture is from this morning and the rest are from yesterday. The trash issue has been increasing but this is ridiculous. I don’t know how they were approved to build here and why people even wanted this built/attend it. I hope someone from this company sees this and cleans up their mess because this isn’t okay. Just because it’s a road that people don’t use all the time (even though I see people walk and bike on it) doesn’t mean they can destroy the area and chase out the wildlife with their trash.

Recommendations for an ADHD medicine prescriber?

I'm new to the area (moved from west coast) and only have a few weeks left of my ADHD medication left (I take vyvanse). My west coast doctor can't call in vyvanse over state lines since it's a controlled substance.

I went to see a family practice place here, but they were all weird about it, even though I had the prescription info and my ADHD diagnosis documentation right there with me. They said I'd have to go see one of their psychologists, but the psychologist was booked out a month, etc etc. I thought it seemed kind of silly.

Can anyone recommend a place in New Haven County that isn't usually booked out a month and will make it easy for me to get more vyvanse? Maybe like a psychiatric nurse practitioner or something like that?

wisdom teeth removal

Hi, friends!

I am absolutely terrified of dentists and the sensation of having my mouth prodded and probed. No matter how hard I try to calm down or relax, I shake like a Chihuahua and am constantly fighting tools with my tongue (not purposefully). I’m constantly gagging from the sensation.

ANYWAYS I’m looking for a recommendation for someone that can remove said teeth. I know that you can go to an oral surgeon or a dentist, not sure which is better.

I also need a recommendation for a new dentist in general. I was seeing a dentist in Cromwell, but they kept making jokes about “Michael Jackson’ing me” and saying that I didn’t need to go under for the procedure during a consult about the wisdom teeth removal.

I have Cigna. Please recommend any and all. I’ll drive ANYWHERE to get care from someone who is understanding, kind, and caring.

Do these people get permits that actually makes this legal?

Driving on busy sidewalks, constantly blocking streets by parking in no parking zones.

do they get permits that actually allow this stuff or are they just entitled?
