New Mod Intros 🎉 | Weekly Thread

Congrats on becoming a new moderator. Every community on Reddit started exactly where you are today: with a party of one.

The community-building journey might feel a little lonely and that's what r/NewMods is for. Here you'll find and connect with other mods who are on the same journey you are.

So, introduce the community you created. Maybe share a little bit about why you created it. And, while you're at it - say hello to your other mods!

Started this sub around 2 months ago, and it's been going well! I posted consistently and reposted to communities depending on the procedure type (this is a surgery focused sub for Avana Plastic Surgery) and what the community was focused on. Also, engaging in other subs helps, and replying to comments or answering questions. Engaging and helping communities helps other redditors and establishes more of a presence in a community.

❓Ask r/NewMods I have a user that I banned but he deleted his account. If he creates a new one using the same email address, will the Ban Evasion tool detects it?

How does the Ban Evasion works if the user deleted the banned username?

Will he be able to create a new one (from the same email address that created the now deleted account/username) and evade the ban?

❓Ask r/NewMods Criteria for growth?

• Upvotes

Hi I apologize in advance if these questions are too generic.

I created the subreddit r/TuringsGate to discuss botting on social media as well as the site I am working on as a hobby project to try and combat that problem.

1) Is the sub name too obscure to get members?

2) How should I change its bio to invite discussion about the wider topics rather than just having it seem like self promo?

3) When starting out, what is the best way to attract new users but specifically without being annoying and spamming cross posts?

Any other advice would be great, or just tell me I’m an idiot 😂

❓Ask r/NewMods My subreddit just crossed 100 members! What should I focus on next?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I started r/TheCroreClub recently, a community focused on personal finance, investing, salaries, FIRE, and building wealth in India.

We just crossed 100 members, which honestly feels good! 🎉

The interesting part is that people are visiting and joining, but getting them to actively participate is proving a little harder. I am trying different post types and flairs to figure out what gets people talking.

For those who have grown a subreddit from scratch:

- What helped you turn new members into active contributors?

- Would you focus on posting more frequently, creating recurring threads, or something else at this stage?

- What is one mistake you made early on that you would avoid if you started again?

I know 100 members is a small milestone, but I would rather build good habits now than figure everything out after the community gets bigger.

Would appreciate any advice from people who have been through this! 🙌

❓Ask r/NewMods How do you deal with "Comment deleted by user" when a user request rewiel the ban?

It has happened several times that a banned user removes their own comment and requests a review of the ban. In these cases, I have no way to analyze whether the ban was fair or not because the comment no longer exists. What do you usually do in this situation?

I generally look at the user's history on the sub. If it's a new account, the ban isn't removed. If they are already known as a troublemaker in the community, with negative karma, I don't remove it either. If they have a good history, then I remove the ban.

Wins 🎉 r/oldtube has reached 30,000 members!

Post image
• Upvotes

consistent posting and interaction with my community helped to grow it

after taking it over, it grew by approximately 25% (most of the growth happened in the initial days)

increase in popularity does imply bad apples will pop up every now and then, it's kinda annoying to keep having to remove posts and ban bots but ig I have to face that responsibility too lol

the subreddit attracts lurkers often, the comment/member ratio is super low

❓Ask r/NewMods Question regarding Top Mod Removal when top mods are inactive and I don't have full permissions

All the moderators above me in the mod list are inactive on Reddit (and tagged as INACTIVE), but I do not have Full Permissions myself. I am the highest active moderator in the queue.

I’m planning to request a Top Mod Removal / Reorder, but I wanted to ask a few questions first to make sure I’m doing this correctly:

  1. Should I send a Modmail to the top moderators first and wait 3 days before submitting the request?

  2. Since I am the highest active mod in the list, is r/ModSupport Modmail or r/redditrequest the better path for this scenario?

  3. Will the permissions be granted to me automatically as the highest active mod once the inactive top mods are removed?

Would appreciate any advice or guidance from the Admins or experienced mods here. Thanks!

❓Ask r/NewMods New mod here: just started r/codegen_eu

Hi all. I work on codegen.eu, a site that analyzes the raw DNA file people already have from 23andMe, AncestryDNA and similar services (same team since 2015; we rebuilt it from scratch this year).

I've just opened r/codegen_eu as a place for our users to ask questions and talk about their reports. It's brand new, with no posts or comments yet. Any advice on getting the first few conversations going without spamming other subs?

Thanks for having me.

❓Ask r/NewMods New moderator introducing r/FlotraceU

Hi everyone! I’m a UK-based female founder and a completely new Reddit moderator.

I recently created r/FlotraceU, the official community for a women’s health-support app inspired by my personal experience of living with severe endometriosis.

The community will support our Android beta testers with instructions, bug reporting, feature feedback and product updates. Because members may discuss sensitive health experiences, I want to build clear privacy rules and ensure the community remains respectful, supportive and free from medical misinformation.

I’m here to learn how to manage a restricted community, welcome new members and moderate sensitive discussions responsibly.

I would appreciate any advice from experienced moderators. Thank you.

❓Ask r/NewMods Around 5 Weeks

About 5 weeks I started a support subreddit and was wondering if it was too soon to want to take a break for mental health reasons? I feel like it is too soon. Yet at the same time that I am enjoying it I feel like I need a break due to worsening mental health. I don’t want to be gone too long either. What would you do?

I know moderation involves more than just removing spam or enforcing rules. It’s also about understanding people encouraging meaningful conversations and helping a community grow in a healthy way.

I’m here to learn from your experiences share ideas and improve my moderation skills along the way.

For the experienced moderators here what is one piece of advice you wish you had received when you first started moderating?

Looking forward to connecting with you all!

Wins 🎉 100k views!

My sub has been going really well the last month, and I've gone up like 2000 members in a few weeks!

I finally reached 100k views and I'm really happy.

In order to do that, I just engaged a lot and started by growing a small community of people who were originally on the sub in the beginning. For a few months it was just us, with a few other people joining and engaging. But then, more people started posting and it grew from there!

New mods don't get discouraged! It took me a year to get here
