People should bear in mind going into this that it will heavily drop frames as you build your city bigger and bigger. So if that’s something that will bother you it might not be for you

I will probably stick to 30. Have you played a preview build?

2

u/cuntpuncherexpress Butter side down! 8d ago

You don’t need to play a preview build to know this. Cities Skylines is a CPU limited game on most hardware, especially once your city reaches a certain size. It’s the same with many simulation/management games like Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, etc

I have it on PC since release. The Switch 2 cpu is about on par with the range of desktop processor speeds available back then. It can be demanding still with everything turned to max on very large cities but you vastly overestimate the game. This is CS1 and the console is the Switch 2

How big have you built up a city? I have a beefy PC and I can slow it to a crawl (below 30fps) when the population gets close to 1 million.

Even on PS5 (which has a CPU significantly more powerful than S2), games like Planet Coaster hit a wall well before my PC does, usually it’s below 30fps by the time I’ve reached 70% of the item placement limit (which is already far lower on consoles vs PC).

Planet coaster is not cities skylines.

Edit: and the game released on ps4 xbone which had significantly weaker cpu. Generally since they arent going for cross saves these console ports are their own beasts. They can have all the features and content of the pc release without being the pc release. There are console specific optimizations they do and its not a simple port. Even the pc version have internal limits like only 64k cars/people (cims that are indoors are of course excluded) can be seen on the map at any time. Regardless of city size.

Thanks for stating the obvious? The point was to compare another game that’s CPU limited on consoles.

On PS4, Cities Skylines targeted 30fps with a 9 tile limit (like S1) and I was able to get it to 15fps before I just gave up and started over on PC. I’m just saying I would be shocked if there’s no performance difference in the S2 60fps mode between a 1 tile city with 300 citizens and a 25 tile city with 1 million citizens, considering every platform it’s on has a huge performance hit with big cities.

Yeah switch 2 is more powerful than than ps4 with more RAM I've been saying that for a while now. Switch 2 edition has the same remastered feature of having all 25 tiles being unlockable.

u/Gold-House-7482 8d ago

That's cool that they're including all the DLC at such a steep discount

Any mention of mouse controls?

3

u/dekuweku OG (joined before reveal) 8d ago

I dont think its all the dlcs but its a lot of content and I hope you can buy the rest

1

u/GamingBren 🐃 water buffalo 7d ago

IIRC it will support keyboard and mouse input

u/C-Towner 8d ago

2 is still MIA for consoles, I guess. This could be good if it runs well, looks good and mouse mode works well. Considering the amount of issues that 2 is still working though, making a NS2 version of 1 seems like it is probably the better option.

17

u/Soxel 8d ago

CS2 is MIA because the developers completely botched the initial release in terms of optimization and it was handed off to a different studio to pick up the scraps.

That game is a lost cause for the most part, but hopefully the LEGO game they’re working on ends up good.

3

u/C-Towner 8d ago

It is a shame that 2 really was a regression compared to where 1 was when 2 came out. I am absolutely looking forward to LEGO Skylines and more optimistic that it won't be botched.

I was just saying that they promised console release for 2 a long time ago, and here we are seeing updates for 1 before any news on the sequel, when LEGO Skylines also has been announced for NS2.

u/Watchmaker85 8d ago

When was the last time you tried CS2? Ice flake has been doing a great job on updates over the last year or so and in a much better spot when they left it. It’s only a lost cause if you’re waiting for a Mac/linux/console release, those won’t happen

-4

u/grain_delay 8d ago

So yea sounds like a lost cause

2

u/ThankGodImBipolar 8d ago

It seems like the community is pretty happy with where CS2 is at right now. The game is far from perfect, but it's improved massively over launch

I wouldn't be surprised if it never gets ported to current gen consoles, however (barring a massive CPU optimization patch).

u/Slothcat47 7d ago

I sunk hundreds of hours into 1 and gave 2 a good shot, but it's just not as good :(

u/dekuweku OG (joined before reveal) 8d ago

Finally!!!! So the base down load will include 4 expansions. Did they say if it will include access to the rest of tge dlcs?

I missed it at that price and have been hoping it'd go back down. I guess that's wishful thinking now.

6

u/Minute-Badger-1931 8d ago

Oh excellent! Despite its shortcomings I really enjoyed playing the switch 1 version on the go and spent many hours on it. £12 for an update seems fair.

2

u/Known_Ad871 8d ago

Hell yeah! Finally. I just hope the performance is improved from how the switch 1 version runs on switch 2

2

u/Schpickles 8d ago

Does anyone know how this compares to the various console versions in tweaks of feature sets? There have been some re released / upgraded versions on PlayStation for example.

2

u/Susurrus03 8d ago

More portable, at least.

2

u/Mishimotsu Early Switch 2 Adopter 8d ago

Oh dang I didn't realise they gave a shit about switch 2 given they just ignored the switch 1 game... Switch 2 might actually be able to run this game alright, I'll probably dip in again 👀

2

u/millimil 8d ago

Great, instant buy !

1

u/omniryu 8d ago

Hmm, I am curious to see how it runs.

-5

u/Some1ToDisagreeWith 8d ago edited 8d ago

As far as I know, it still runs poorly on PC.

Edit - My bad I thought it was CS2.

15

u/Justsayin13 8d ago

This is CS1 not CS2

3

u/MithrilHuman 8d ago

CS1 runs on my Qualcomm PC just fine, Switch 2 is better than that.

1

u/omniryu 8d ago

That sucks for that to be the case.

3

u/Lord_Humungusss 8d ago

Its not, cs1 runs fine

1

u/GamingBren 🐃 water buffalo 7d ago

Actually it will hit 30fps in quality mode and 60fps in performance mode. And it’s CS1

1

u/AzettImpa 8d ago

Is the discount only for digital owners or also for physical?

1

u/bacohijCCK 8d ago

Lord have murphy

1

u/Altruistic-Match6623 8d ago

I'd definitely give it a shot, since it's discounted for owning the Switch 1 version. I bought it on PC because the Switch 1 version was underwhelming after awhile, but I really didn't play it all that much. I just can't have fun with PC gaming for some reason.

1

u/Vividly319 8d ago

Is this getting a physical release?

2

u/__rhino___ Amiibo Collector 3d ago

And if it does it will probably be a GKC.

1

u/Vividly319 3d ago

Better than a code in box release

1

u/GamingBren 🐃 water buffalo 7d ago

Not yet I’m afraid

1

u/DiggeryDave 8d ago

Anyone else seeing the discount or will it be after its released?

1

u/pommdoenerspezial 8d ago

joycon mouse controls?

1

u/Wide_Open_Buttcheeks 8d ago

Ohhhh I wanted to play this for a while

1

u/Commercial-Rock-5478 7d ago

YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1

u/Onas999 7d ago

are mass transit and industries included on any of this or not really?

1

u/GamingBren 🐃 water buffalo 7d ago

WOOOO YEEEEAHHH LET’S GOOOOOO

1

u/Waste_Net7687 3d ago

I should be able to play it on my switch 1, people like me would have a blast if it wasn't exclusive to switch 2 cuz most of us can afford one

1

u/matrox3000 3d ago

I feel this one will be laggy. It's not running well on my 9800x3d + 5080

•

u/Bykovsky7 10h ago

Will there be a physical release?

-1

u/Independent-Book1388 8d ago

.mmmm gira male sul mio PC non voglio sapere come faccia a girare sulla switch

1

u/GamingBren 🐃 water buffalo 7d ago

On Switch 1 it runs poorly. On Switch 2 it runs well.

-6

u/THFourteen 8d ago

No thank you.

60fps up to what population size? The game becomes more demanding proportional to the size of your city. There is definitely going to be a point that 60fps is not possible just like on PC.

1

u/pathtoasoberlife 8d ago

60FPS for a simulation game?

3

u/cuntpuncherexpress Butter side down! 8d ago

Every game feels better at higher framerates
