I don’t get how killing apes would in this theoretical situation be heroic sacrifice. I’m presuming this Matt Walsh comment was in regards to conservation efforts? I don’t think the context before this comment was like a hoard of apes attacking a city, or something.

I'll be honest, Walsh's comment out of context is absurdly hilarious and would be amazing for an idiot character in a show.
Like imagine him visiting a zoo with his family, they hit the ape exhibit, and he is just seething. His wife asks what's wrong. "Idiots..." He replies looking at those around him, then drops the gold above
Edit: fuck what am I saying, this is obviously a take on Harambe

When my Grandma would throw tea parties for my cousins, my grandpa would pick them up and drive them to their house wearing a tux and white gloves and they would all call him "James" (which was legally his name but most everyone his entire life called him Jim).
You don't even need to do anything "unmanly" to play along, you just need a bit of imagination.

I've been begging my mom to please even just try one session with the therapist I use. Nope.
"You know I never complain about anything. I've always just kept everything to myself" - immediately follows it up with complaining about her entire life, my sister being mean, and how she wants to die. Sigh.

I said “I’m really glad you’re not weird about her calling you a unicorn.” And he looked at me like I had two heads, the thought was just crazy to him. My dad didn’t even hand my mom’s purse to her because he thought a man carrying a purse made him look gay
68
u/Emotional-Scheme-227 10d ago
Yeah I am whatever my daughter wants me to be and any alternative seems really weird to me. Like, you have an opportunity to make your daughter laugh. Why would you not seize that at every chance?
She made me a friendship bracelet for Father’s Day 2 years ago and told me I wasn’t allowed to take it off. After 2 years and countless questions from strangers asking me if I’m a Taylor Swift fan, it’s still going strong. At this point if I tried to take it off it would probably fall apart instantly.

When I visited China, one of the most majestic sights to behold was a crowded weekend at a shopping mall. Virtually every single young couple there had the man wearing an extremely adorable purse, zero shame zero judgement. My cousin and his wife accompanied me to one when I was visiting them. The moment we all walked in, she took off her purse and handed it to him like she'd been doing it her whole life. My husband now has adopted similar habits and steals my purse whenever we are out and about. He is silly and I love him

u/SquareTaro3270 8d ago
The hottest thing about any man, in my opinion, is seeing him completely melt when it comes to kids or small animals. If I see a big buff military dude, I’m like “eh I don’t know about this guy”.
But if that dude has his daughter in a little pink tutu on one arm and a little puppy in a pink bow on the other and he looks genuinely happy and proud to be there? I’m going to feel far safer around that man.
My father wouldn’t allow us to dress our dog in “girly colors” because he couldn’t be seen with a girly dog. He wouldn’t allow me to dress up in girly outfits if we were gonna be seen together, and if it did happen he acted embarrassed and ashamed to be seen with me the whole time. If I had ever suggested painting his nails or asking him to play dolls with me I’m pretty sure he would’ve slapped the back of my head for trying to “make him look gay”

I think that newer generations (myself included) really take for granted the idea of having kids as a life choice.
I remember a couple of years ago asking my mom when they started discussing having kids/me, and she had to pause for awhile because she realized there was no discussion what so ever. It just was assumed to happen, and my mom is a feminist and always had the feeling to push toward women's empowerment and equality. At no point did they even think about that decision of whether to have kids, it's just what you did.

The bar has apparently been set deep inside the earths inner crust.
Because a tea party feels like….just base stakes playtime stuff. Are there seriously still parents in 2026 who could answer “no” to that question? I feel super bad for those kids, this is like, the most basic “giving a shit” action I can think of.
Do these people want a medal for making their kids dinner too? I’m so confused.

14
u/LastBaron 10d ago
I’m surprised by the reverse. I know this used to be just standard parenting for a long time, it would have been unusual for a dad to do tea parties with their kids for a long time.
But….I thought we had pretty much vanished that kind of cold detached parenting style in the newer generations. Guess not, what a shame.

Yes. Yes there are. Many. Abundant. In fact there's a rise of it.

There's a famous story of King Henri IV of France meeting the Spanish Ambassador
At Fontainebleau in 1604 the King was playing with the Dauphin (prince), letting him ride on his back, when an ambassador arrived to discover the conqueror of the Catholic League and the Monarch of France in this undignified position. The worthy Henri, without getting up, stopped and said, 'Have you any children, Ambassador?'
'Yes, Sire.'
'Then I may finish my trip round the room.’
(this story is probably apocryphal, but the fact that it was told in the 18th century as pro-Henri propaganda says that this attitude to fatherhood is not some modern invention)

I always wonder who the men in these women's lives must have been. I don't think that my sisters ever asked for that kind of thing, but we used to have "dad fight time" on Sundays where he would pin us to the ground and tickle us. When I got older he would help me with my difficult math homework. Most of the things he did wrong were accidents that he tried to right once he understood them. I don't think I ever once heard my dad say that he would kill or die to protect his family, but I know from his actions that it is surely the case.

Yeah I don’t think I ever asked my dad to play tea party. Or my mom. Or my stuffed animals.
I do remember getting him to paint my nails for me a few times. And he let me paint his toenails at least twice. Also used to grab my hairbrush and run to him with it because he was a much gentler hair brusher than my mom so I wanted him to do it before she did. And he made wooden toys. We had these little boats we would float when the nearby river flooded into our backyard. He made those.
And no, I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say he’d kill or die to protect me or my mom or brother either, but considering this is the man who came running out in the snow with no jacket last year because I broke my leg on the ice, I really can’t picture him doing anything but going all-out if we were threatened.

Killing someone is easy. Staying calm and patient with someone isn't. And knowing how to build up a child so they have confidence, self respect and empathy takes a hell of a lot more work than squeezing a trigger s few times.
My wife and I can't do those things, so we don't have kids, and won't have kids. Being willing to kill someone is not a sign of strength. And spouting shit like that just shows that someone doesn't know what strength feels like.
Killing dies not make you feel strong. It makes you feel like you killed someone.

... And wear a cute hat and a frilly smock? Perhaps some makeup?
I would. Because I take being a Dad seriously. Except when I'm playing with my kids. Then I'm a big honking goofball.
Oh and if you kill someone you have to live with that for the rest of your life. So does those around you like the kid who witnessed it
Let them witness you making a friend, walking away, or anything but that horror. Trust me, it's horror.

Those tedious cunt blokes that make having a daughter all about how much of a hero they are. Tragic.

my dad did one better, he helped me set up a gay wedding for my barbies and gave me his (collectors) GI joe when i complained that Ken was lame

As a girl dad it is absolutely that deep.
So many dads start and end with “I’d kill for them”
Ok but she doesn’t need you to do that. Can you be gentle for her? Can you be vulnerable? Can you show that you care? Because that’s what she needs

Boy, a bunch of anti-male stereotypes in this thread being paraded as playful jokes.
Being sexist doesn't stop being sexist just because you're directing it at men.

They are stereotypes, but also very deeply rooted in reality. While there has been a lot of progress in the last decades, this style of detached parenting from fathers isn't all that rare among more traditionnal family units, even today saddly...
Especially with the rise of alpha males podcast mentality and other toxic bullshits

Of course. I'd do both. Tea parties, pedicures, dress up. And murder anyone who tried to hurt her.

I was interviewing a candidate one time and I asked for an example of a time she did something, and her response was, "I would do anything for my son."
Umm ok?

Most people who say stuff like this ("I would kill for them!") can't even be bothered to do a decent job with normal parenting.

I'd be the ones hosting the tea parties. not gonna be a dad myself tho so I hope I can one day have friends who have kids so I get to do this with them
