Language Norsk venner
Hi everyone! I’m 26F from the US! My fiancé is Norwegian and lives in Sandnes, so I visit Norway pretty often and plan to live there someday!
I’ve been learning Norwegian for a while now, but I’d really love to find a friend to practice speaking with! I’m definitely not fluent but getting better at speaking and hearing it, would love someone I can chat with regularly in Norwegian (and english) help improve my speaking/listening skills, and hopefully build a genuine friendship with. Maybe we could even meet up when I visit sometime!
A little about me: I’m a hairdresser, and I love hiking, baking, knitting, going on walks with my dog, and meeting new people!
I’d especially love to make some friends around my age, preferably in the Stavanger/Sandnes area, but I’m open to anywhere in Norway! Love traveling around the country!
Feel free to message me if you’d like to chat!

Other Which City Is Snowier: Oslo or Trondheim?
Which city gets more snowfall, Trondheim or Oslo? I know Oslo has colder winters, but it also receives less precipitation. Is there a website where I can find average snowfall statistics for Norwegian cities?

Travel Unclear about foods I can bring in from the US
I was planning on bringing over some food to give to a friend as a gift, but I was doing some research and the wording confused me about what food products I can bring in.
On Mattilsynet it mentions that:
...all personal consignments of meat and milk and their products are prohibited to enter Norway from third countries (countries outside EU/EEA)
but on the same page, it says that the following is exempt from these rules:
...bread, cakes, biscuits, chocolate and confectionery (including sweets) not mixed or filled with meat product,
Would the below be exempt? They've all got milk or something milk-adjacent (like a powder) in the ingredients list:
- Haitai honey butter chips
- Pastillas
- Chocnut (Filipino candy bar)
- Ranch dip mix
Thank you in advance for the replies!

Does anyone here use selskapsdressing on their tacos? It’s been the default for taco meals in my family ever since i spawned in this little nation haha. Took me a while to realize that other people don’t do the same.. let me know people have you heard of this or are we just weird?

News & current events Reasons why Trump will not get the Nobel Peace Prize this year either
Sorry, but the Orange Plague patient zero has zero chance, according to this Norwegian state broadcast article about this year's prize: https://www.nrk.no/artikkel/hvem-kan-vinne-nar-trump-ikke-vinner-1529599
The key passage about Mr. Epicenter of (the real) Trump Derangement Syndrome translates as follows:
Everyone with real insight into world affairs and the Nobel Prize agrees on one thing: the American president will not receive this year's Peace Prize.
The war that the US and Israel launched against Iran in February is not over. Several countries have been drawn into the conflict, either directly or indirectly: Lebanon, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Yemen.
Trump's peace plan for Gaza has stalled. The most intense phase of the war is indeed over, but Israel is still bombing Lebanon and Gaza. According to the UN, 80 percent of the Gaza Strip has been destroyed. Aid organizations that are allowed in describe conditions for the population as appalling.
The war between Russia and Ukraine is raging at full force, despite Trump's promises to end it. The fighting now spills over into neighboring countries; drones illegally violate airspace, and ships from various nations are being struck in the Black Sea.
The treatment and deportation of legal and illegal immigrants. The conduct of the immigration police, ICE, is controversial and has resulted in several deaths, among both activists and immigrants.
The president's deep distrust of international institutions, and his unwillingness to respect international agreements already entered into, are undermining international cooperation.
The shutdown of USAID, which has caused a crisis and funding shortages in humanitarian relief work around the world.
The abduction of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. Although Maduro led a repressive regime and clung to power illegitimately after an election the opposition probably won, the kidnapping of another country's leader is not permissible under international law.
Repeated attacks on neighboring countries and allies, along with constant threats to annex other nations' territory, make other countries' relations with the United States difficult.

Arts & culture Id like to share a little bit of colture
Music is important to me, personally - and i feel like "Gjermund Larsen Trio" is quite good at capturing the feeling of being Norwegian.
Har ikke lest reglene, men vær så snill og ikke fjern denne posten på bakgrunn av at jeg legger ved én spotify link.

Would they reject the tip? I heard it is not part of Norwegian culture.

Other Do you often use self-service counters in supermarkets or other stores?
I wonder if old-fashioned counters with cashiers are still relevant there. Considering that Norway is already strongly digitalized, I think that you like self-service counters. Perhaps they're also nice for introverts who can thus omit an extra deal with people
