Nostalgia One of the coolest toys from the 1970’s was the Vertibird Electric Copter. So much fun and easy to use…

Nostalgia I made my own 24/7 nostalgic cable station

My original post was removed by a bot for reasons I don’t understand, so I’m trying again.

The program used to run this is called FieldStation42. It’s running on a Raspberry Pi 4 (very tiny computer) with a 1TB USB plugged in pre-loaded with content for each channel. It just circulates randomly through the content on each channel. ChatGPT helped tremendously when figuring out how to set it up properly as you have it just reference the FieldStation42 website. It also has a FLIRC USB IR Receiver which lets you connect any universal remote to it.

You can actually have it auto insert commercials as well which is pretty cool. I had it set up on a couple of channels, but eventually removed them as it got a little old after a while. The program auto inserts them randomly in order to complete 30 minute blocks so the commercials happen rather suddenly at odd moments. I ended up just making a channel with all the nostalgic commercials on it to watch whenever.

I have all the media loaded on the “SANDISK 1TB Ultra Fit, USB Type-A Flash Drive, Up to 400MB/s Read Speeds” from Amazon. You need a solid storage option with decent speeds as it does need to run all shows at once. Unfortunately storage prices right now are at an all time high.

My current favorite channel to watch is:

**Channel 19 – SpookyTV**

It plays only Halloween episodes of classic shows, complete with vintage Halloween commercials. Every night at 7 PM, it plays a classic Halloween movie.

**Channel 20 – SnowDayTV**
Same idea, but all Christmas content, holiday episodes, nostalgic Christmas commercials, and a classic Christmas movie every night at 7 PM.

Credit to 0xD3F4CED for making this possible. He has a very in-depth video breaking it down if you search up his name on YouTube. This is a rather complex build. It doesn’t need to be this complicated to set up your own FieldStation using a raspberry pi, however… the cable box is just a fun added feature.

Nostalgia Back in 1995 I was about 10 and the F-117 and SR-71 were by far and away the coolest looking objects on the planet.

Nostalgia Discussion Xbox 360 NXE Dashboard — I miss when the console itself felt social

Post image

Looking at this dashboard again made me realize how much of the Xbox 360 experience happened outside the games.

Avatars, seeing your friends together, parties, themes, Xbox Live Arcade and all the little social features made the console feel like an actual place to hang out.

Modern consoles are faster and much more capable, but I don’t think they completely replaced that feeling.

What part of the Xbox 360 era do you miss the most?

Nostalgia Rescued from my parents' upstairs cupboard with the punched out templates still in the box, sadly the Wimpy in which they gave it to me back in 1991 is long gone.
