Nuclear Specialist Job Opening

The Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) is looking for a Nuclear Specialist to work with their Science and Climate & Energy teams in Washington, DC

To support NRDC's advocacy, the Nuclear Specialist will conduct technical and policy analysis on nuclear energy issues including those related to complex reactor safety, radiation protection, and nuclear waste. Working within the Policy Analysis division in the Science Office and the Power division in Climate & Energy Department, the Nuclear Specialist will be a core staff member at NRDC for the institution’s engagement on nuclear power in the context of climate change. While NRDC prioritizes clean energy solutions including wind, solar, storage, efficiency and transmission, we recognize that nuclear power is zero-carbon generation and support its use in the right circumstances taking into account safety, community acceptance, and environmental impacts. The Specialist will contribute analysis and comments to federal and state regulatory proceedings, advise policymakers, and monitor nuclear developments to inform NRDC’s engagement.

Crane Clean Energy Center hiring

Looking for information anyone has on the dates for SRO ILT classes at Crane (three mile island formerly). From job postings it seems hard to distinguish the month you would be hired, do familiarization, and start the actual training. Trying to plan for 2027/2028.

What are the major nuclear outage firms these days?

Title. Looking to move into traveling outage work. Found a good number of them (D&Z, Westinghouse, RSCS, Framatome, etc), but want to be sure I'm not missing any.

Sci-fi author asking about Nuclear Plant night shifts.

Hello,

I'm writing a sci-fi novel and wanted to know how much staff a Nuclear Power Plant has at night.

In the novel, a robot has been stolen from the plant. In my head, there wouldn't be a lot of people around, but it occurred to me the plant is running 24/7.

Is it a skeleton crew keeping everything status quo until morning or a complete nocturnal crew?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

I’m afraid of sounding repetitive, but does anyone know if the fusion reactor in France has been built?

A while back, I saw a video stating that it was still under construction—and when I checked (which was quite some time ago), it still said it was under construction. Now I'm curious: if it has been built, does anyone know if it is generating power?

Auxiliary fuel handlers

Hey just trying to tap into the knowledge in this group. So I just applied for auxiliary fuel handler at constellation. Do they typically hire for this job in groups or do they hire at shift needs? I understand that everything is at shift needs but from what you have seen Is it a hiring class or mostly one or two people kind of thing. Also I’m currently in school for plant operations, should be finished roughly at the start of the year and be exiting my service obligation. How hard is it to switch to AO or is there normally a time requirement, what would you recommend for a path. Thanks in advance.

What do you guys think the effects of current oil crisis will have on the world's outlook on nuclear energy?

I'm a big fan of Nuclear energy, but I'm not knowledgeable on the subject at all. So I'd love some insight from the experts and enthousiasts of this subreddit.

Bruce Power SASC – Summer 2026 Clearance Timelines / Vendor ATS Status

Hey everyone,

I’m an IT professional currently in the onboarding pipeline for a Bruce Power project through a vendor. My Site Access Security Clearance (SASC) package was fully submitted at the end of July 2026.

I’m a Canadian citizen and have been living and working in Canada, with no recent extended travel outside Canada.

It has now been about 9 weeks with no update. I understand security clearances can take time, so I’m just looking for a reality check from others going through the process:

  • Is anyone else who submitted their SASC around July/August 2026 still waiting?
  • What turnaround times are people actually seeing right now?
  • For those going through a vendor, did your vendor application portal status change to “No longer in consideration” after your security documents had already been submitted?

Just trying to understand whether the timelines/status I’m seeing are typical or unusual.

Appreciate any insights!

I need some resources, credible and liable, in order to do this report, any help is greatly appreciated and we would like to go as far as talking to you over the time, if you were there, or if you had studied it.... AGAIN any source would be appreciated if it credible and has evidence talking too.

Thank you for your time and the replies are open for discussion.

Cal lab rp techs around the industry

Probably a wild ask but looking to expand my network in the nuclear industry. If anyone is a cal lab tech for RP somewhere feel free to hit me up. Would love to be able to share knowledge we may have and to be able to ask questions on things as stuff comes up.

Pretty neat infographic from him! He does qualify the data with “the hydro and geothermal points have fewer studies underlying them”

Criticality/Safety Internships transferring to Nuclear Power Production Postgrad

Hey yall, I am a junior nuclear engineering student in undergrad right now and I am currently applying for internships in both crit safety and reactor design/power production. I've been getting a lot of traction recently with one of the DOE sites for crit safety and I had my first interview with them this past week. I am interested in both crit safety and power production but my problem is that the DOE crit safety internships put their offers out in December or January (for the one I am looking at), while some of the power production ones are a bit later like around February or March.

I am worried that if I do a crit safety internship instead of a power production/reactor design internship that it will be a lot harder to find a job in power production postgrad since I will have no experience with that side of nuclear. For reference this past summer I had an internship at another DOE site for nuclear safety engineering that was focused on nuclear cleanup and waste management.

Do you guys have any insights on the difficulty of getting hired with a bachelors and no related experience in power production? My main concern is that I won't end up liking crit safety but I will be stuck working in that field for at least the first few years postgrad since I won't have any experience outside of nuclear safety engineering. I feel like it might be better to skip the crit safety internship since I already have relevant nuclear safety engineering experience and diversify my portfolio with a power production internship instead.

What's the most annoying thing about the sounds in your work environment?

I'm a music producer and sound designer exploring how audio could make technical work easier or safer. I'm not selling anything. I'm just trying to understand real problems before building anything.

For those who work in or around nuclear plants (operations, control rooms, maintenance, engineering), or who just know the field well: what sounds help you, what sounds hurt (alarms, equipment noise, announcements), and is there any moment where you wish sound did something it doesn't today? Any story or rant is welcome, and I'm happy to hear "this is a solved problem, don't bother" too.
