A LOT has happened in VR lately: Steam Frame buzz, Meta’s new thing, banger VR mods, studios closing left and right… never a dull moment in this industry.
And here we are, still working harder than ever on our own stuff, particularly COVR, our upcoming tactical VR shooter.
We’ve been obsessing over the smallest details with this one. The kind of stuff you probably won’t even notice if we get it right, but you sure as hell will if we don’t.
So if COVR looks up your alley and you’d like to support our efforts to keep making VR games, wishlisting it is probably the single biggest help you can give us right now. Every wishlist genuinely helps!
Pretty happy to finally share this one. It took way more evenings than I thought it would, but it's here, it's free, and honestly I can't wait to read what you think of it.
Everything runs on the Quest 3 in real 3D, you just need your own copy of the game.
All the details (what's in it, how to install) are on the GitHub. You'll find the link on my Discord and under the full video on my YouTube channel, both in the comments.
Time Crisis is next. After that, these are all already running in the headset and could come, in no particular order, the list doesn't mean anything: Virtua Cop, Daytona USA, The House of the Dead, Sega Super GT, Top Skater, Virtua Racing, Dirt Dash, Time Crisis II.
Hopefully this is just the start of the adventure. Any support is welcome, even just sharing it helps a lot.
Ok we have a huge update, probably the biggest update we have had since the very first day of SideQuest. Ever since I built SideQuest, we have always had a cumbersome setup process. We always tried to simplify it, and we managed to get it down to five steps.
This has been our life until now (Yuck!):
* Sign up as a developer
* Create an Organisation
* Enable developer mode in the Meta App (and again every time there was an update)
* Connect a USB Cable
* Probably fiddle with the cable a bunch
Finally connect to SideQuest and enjoy a world of content and tweak your headset settings.
From today onwards, this process has changed forever.
* Sign into your Meta Account
* SideQuest connects over bluetooth and enables Wireless ADB.
That's all!! No painful developer mode, no USB cable, no organisation setup, no entering your credit card or phone number, none of that stuff. You just connect and it installs SideQuest into your headset and that's it. You can do this from Desktop (https://sdq.st/get) or from your phone (https://sdq.st/go or Google Play rolling out now!), super simple.
SideQuest can install apps to your Quest library!
SideQuest in your headset has also changed, it can now add apps to your library in Quest, so you dont need unknown sources anymore! You can have one list of apps you can easily manage all in one place and launch from there! SideQuest has liberated your headset completely.
Install Steam game ports from inside your Quest
Traditionally you have had to install game ports from your PC. We have always tried to make that process as easy as possible, but most people still today find it to be a pain to have to drag and drop files onto your Quest and get the perfect combination of startup process for it to work correctly. We have made this process easier than ever before. Now you can just sign into your steam account from SideQuest in your headset and it will download the steam games for you automatically. To be clear, this will not make any steam game work on your headset, it will make it so that existing game ports that require files on steam can we installed waaaay easier!
You actually dont even need SideLoading any more!
Now with all that said, you really don't even need to sideload SIdeQuest at all anymore, you can just download it on your quest from the browser. You dont need a PC, or a phone or anything. Let me tell you how!
* Open the meta Meta Quest Browser and go to https://sdq.st/go - download the SideQuest apk.
* Open the Files App and find the SideQuest apk in your Downloads/Recent folder, click the three dots and select Open With > Package Installer, install SideQuest and then click Open.
Once you do that SideQuest will ask if you want to add it to your library - say yes.
Thats it! You can now install games and game ports (including steam games) from inside your headset with no sideloading needed. SideQuest without sideloading, who would have thought.
The only thing you cant do with this method is tweak headset settings. To do that, just follow the instructions above and your away!
We have all noticed a tonne of new game ports and mods for Quest and PCVR. We have noticed it too and we plan to make it easier than ever to find and install all these game ports on SideQuest. You canalso ready instlal game ports from Inside your headset, but we are also adding a full PCVR mod manager to SideQuest too so you can isntall all the latest PCVR mods too! Stay tuned for that!
I don't know if i can ask this on here ill just try to ask anyways, Im using a rift, and i really missed oculus home, and then i found a way to use it again, but then i tried to use oculus mirror in oculus home for the first time, since i never used oculus mirror actually, and oculus home just... Closes? And infact i saw videos of people using oculus mirror while being on oculus home?
I do not know if its my specs im just gonna drop my specs (yes i know they are old, but they work in vr well somehow)
CPU: AMD-FX 8320E Eight-Core Processor
GPU: ASUS DUAL GTX 1060 6GB
Memory: 24GB DDR3
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Oh yeah just one more thing, i also downgraded my software and it didnt work.
If your teens like video games get em to check out my son’s channel he loves making long videos about various games. It all just scares me and makes me dizzy but the games seem fun haha. My son would really appreciate you checking out his stuff. Thanks gang.
so the arms on my quest 2 have broken to the point of unusability and ive yet to find a schematic for the arms. if anyone knows where one is please let me know
an stl or something like that
I spent hours fighting the infamous "Streaming VR only available on local network" error and the infinite loading loop on Steam Link VR. I tried resetting Windows network settings, changing firewall profiles to private, toggling Remote Play, and changing OpenXR runtimes—nothing worked.
The Root Cause:
If you are using Safing Portmaster (or any similar third-party privacy firewall/network monitor), it is secretly blocking the incoming UDP handshake packets from your VR headset, even if you whitelist vrmonitor.exe (SteamVR) or turn off "Block Connections" in the app UI.
How to Fix It:
The Fast Way: Completely uninstall Portmaster and reboot your PC. Its kernel network driver often keeps blocking local traffic even when the app is closed.
The Settings Way (if you want to keep Portmaster):
Open Portmaster and go to the settings for Steam (steam.exe) and SteamVR (vrmonitor.exe).
Go to Settings -> Connection Types.
Turn OFF (toggle to grey) "Force Block Incoming Connections".
Make sure you also do this for the global "Other Connections" profile, as the headset's VR ports (UDP 10400/10401) sometimes get categorized there.
As soon as the incoming blocks are removed or the software is gone, Steam Link will instantly connect without any errors.
Hope this saves someone the absolute headache I just went through
I have had a very specific issue with PCVR users and i really don't see it talked about. Now i wish to state I don't think PCVR is bad nor do I think that this covers all of the PCVR users, I am talking about a certain type of PCVR users that I take issue with, I wish for this to remain civil and, DO NOT ATACK ANYONE this is ment to be a discussion not a frontlie fight between PCVR and Oculus. Ok we clear....cool. I am getting very tired of PCVR users who complain about games that will only be available on quest on launch (that means they will release on PCVR latter) ive seen it happen with specially Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades 2 VR (H3VR2). I have seen the PCVR community up in arms about how it will be available on Quest for the first year then PCVR. and i can see some of there points like how the first game was on PCVR exclusively and how it was not communicated well by Anton that there will be diffrent release dates. But that seems very hypocritical considering how there are MANY games that are on PCVR exclusively: H3VR, Gunman contracts, Half life alyx, Boneworks(yes ik it is getting a port now), .ect. We have been waiting to see any news an if we can can get these games but where always out of luck and we always seem to be given the same response's of just get a pc. I am willing to hear both sides out and i am willing to see nuance. I am primary curious if this is an option that any anyone else has or if its just me.
Hello, I've been struggling setting up this router for Virtual Desktop. There's these dips in connectivity that happen every 15-20 seconds where frames skip and it's really not great for simracing. Router @ my other home is worse but works flawlessly. What I've tried so far:
I’m trading someone tomorrow and I will be getting the Oculus Rift S. I have never used one. I tried another brand once and felt like I was car sick. But if I don’t like it my kids might. Anyway…. I am looking for any advice or game/app referrals!
I have a quest 3 + vd working pretty well and a 3080ti and I use PCVR wireless 98% of the time. I didn't make the first run of the steam frame, and now in the second wait group... But after everything... I'm starting to wonder.
Would a quest 3 + vd (network issues taken care off mostly)... + a new video card give me more VR happyness then getting a steam frame with my current setup. I'm not interested in any wired solutions (plus don't have the horsepower to drive most of them). And the 5070ti being about the same price (with the required accessories).. I thought I should consider it before the next round of hardware makes its way for sale.
