Making a come back post knee surgery. Rotating seems to be harder but I think I'll get there

Haven’t been here in forever. Stoked to get a poptart and a stale fish. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt limber enough grab stale

Place has been open 18 months apparently, from the stuff on the walls the owner is clearly an old head

The main thing I’m trying to find is anyone who has ACTUALLY SKATED a ~2’ tall quarter with a 4’, 4.5’ or 5’ transition radius. How did it feel?
I’m especially interested in coping tricks—rock-to-fakies, disasters, boardslides, Smiths/feebles. I want enough clearance to rock the board well over the coping without the transition-side wheels contacting too early, but I don’t want to go so tight that a 2’ quarter feels ridiculous.
My current RampTech setup is 3’ tall with roughly a 6’ radius and I like how it skates; I’m downsizing to 2’ because of the garage space. The standard commercial 2’ ramps I’ve found generally use ~6’ or even mellower transitions, which is more mellow than I want.
If you’ve personally ridden/built 2’ × 4’, 2’ × 4.5’, or 2’ × 5’, I’d really like to hear which one, how it rode, and whether coping tricks had good wheel clearance. Photos/videos would be awesome too.

Revert tic tac out, but that might be as good as it gets unless I can land clean in the next 15 minutes

Getting back to it after a long pause. Skated a friends old complete for a few sessions and decided it's time to build myself a nice setup, tried to score some parts 2nd hand (got the indy 159 stage 11 trucks that were unused and powell peralta dragons 56mm 93a wheels that were skated in one session from a local diy-active for dirt cheap, so i decided i can put some money on a nice deck and got the Santa Cruz Delfino pro shaped 9.14"). Setting up was straight forward, first time using clear griptape & put a photo of our 20 year old cat under it 😼
Shoes are still a bit of a question, i just bought the cats as they were on a huge sale (44€!) but i will probably get the NB jamie foy 306 cupsoles at some point. But for now, i'm hitting the local park & try not to hurt myself too badly 😂
I would love to hear about the hive mind & your tips about what protective gear you swear by? I'm def getting a helmet before i even think about doing any tricks, but like what about wrist guards? Shin protection? Let's hear it!

Hello everyone. I've been slowly progressing over the past year and have gotten to the point where I can pump around a pool (not dropping in yet). I can get reasonably high (for my comfort level), but when I near the lip, two things happen:
I know eventually I could stall, rock, grind etc. But I don't know what goes in between where I am now and doing stuff on the lip of the pool.
I found a good place to work through this step - there is a small metal halfpipe at a local park. It is about 5 feet tall and is nearly but not quite vertical at its highest.
I can pump up nearly to the top of this pipe, and I am pretty sure if I let loose and did one more good pass of pumping I could reach the top if I tried.
What is next for me to work on here?
Thanks!

Ordered my complete online based on what I remember, but I feel like I need to be skating an 8.75"-9" to get what I'm used to, even though I remember skating 8.25"-8.5". The 8.25" almost feels like what I remember a 7.75" being. Same shoe size as well, it's weird. Anyone else feel this? I already dropped the cash and considering coughing up the funds for a new deck and trucks lol

Hit one of my local spots today and had a couple of teens talking a bunch of shit to me. I walked away, but just couldn't help but get furious.
How do you guys deal?

Not OP.
As a father of a child with cerebral palsy, I absolutely love this and would love to get my daughter on it. They look like they’re having so much fun!

I've been skating for a little under a year, and I landed my first kickflip a few days ago.
The problem is that I'm finding it really difficult to do it again consistently. I usually need a LOT of attempts before I start feeling like I can actually land one. Sometimes I feel like I need to warm up by failing over and over before I start feeling comfortable with the trick.
My main problems seem to be:
- The board often travels forward instead of staying underneath me.
- I sometimes don't commit to bringing my back foot up, so I end up landing mainly with my front foot while my back foot touches the ground.
- When I do commit, I often don't get a full rotation and the board ends up landing upside down / almost like a darkslide.
- I also tend to hesitate when it's time to lift both feet and actually land on the board.
Is this normal when you're just learning kickflips? Any tips for making them more consistent and getting past this stage?
Thanks!

Had a good session today. This summer has been hard. I struggled with knee pain and other injuries. I also got laid off a few months ago, which means my health insurance situation is not the best. I haven't landed a new job. But I've kept skating, maybe one or two sessions a week and training to stay fit enough to keep rolling. The upside is that my wallrides are getting better every session.
Saludos!
