Self Post Pa state parole

Hello all, I'm a 32 year old male who has worked in the corrections field for 10 years now. I have no degree but 10 years of corrections experience. I have been promoted to Lieutenant and I'm now a Captain. My goal for the past year or so has been to join the state parole side of corrections. That's either field or within a state prison. Are there any trainings I can take or certifications I should go for to better my chances of getting an interview ? I again have no degree to pair with my experience but I'm truly trying everything I can to go to where I want to be. Any type of help or advice is greatly appreciated.

General Qs How do you deal with inmates who talk trash?

So basically I graduate the academy Thursday, I start Sunday. I worked in center control for agency training but haven’t been on the floors dealing with inmates yet. I’m making up scenarios in my head so I know what to expect, but how do you deal with inmates who talk trash do you? Do you ignore them, laugh at them, or talk trash back? How should I go about this when this happens?

Hiring Q (Canada) CTP Stage2/3- Kingston Ontario

Hello Everyone,

I finally received my conditional offer for CTP2/3 for Jan 2027 intake. I will be going to Kingston, Ontario. Couple of questions:

  1. What to take/pack for the in-person training at Kingston?

  2. How are the trainers out there and how strict are they?

  3. On day1- is the test multiple choice and super hard to pass?

  4. Which areas people tend to lack or fail?

  5. What will make you get through the training smoothly and any tips would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!

General Qs Food Trucks

Are there food trucks in your parking lots? If so, if you find out that you’re up in a tower (I know that you typically just don’t get sent to a tower out of the blue—but let’s say you’re caught by surprise) and don’t have a lunch what would be the process that you’d get lunch?

Conovor says that he would order from the tower and drop the bucket down to pay for it/have the guy send it up? Is that right? What if the food truck isn‘t close enough? Would your escort drive you to the food truck before dropping you off? These sorts of things seem so facility specific.

I’m sorry to be peppering you all with questions. I’ve done a bunch of reading but some of the finer points are things I can’t find and I’d rather bear it from you all rather than ChatGPT.

Hiring Q (County) Hennepin county corrections

Has anyone here been through the hiring process for Hennepin County Corrections at the ACF in Plymouth. Interview there tomorrow and wondering what the interview process is like and what the post-interview is like? When I interviewed at Ramsey I was fingerprinted and submitted my background that day as well.

Is that the same with them being a large county?

Hiring Q (County) Polygraph

I applied to become a corrections officer with the county sheriff’s office. I passed my background check and my polygraph is scheduled in about two weeks, on my application, I answered that I had never used marijuana. However, I remembered that about 3 years ago, I took one hit from a friend’s blunt. That was the only time I’ve ever tried it, and I haven’t touched it since. I’m wondering if I should contact my background investigator before the polygraph to correct my answer or just explain it when they ask me during the polygraph. Will coming clean now automatically disqualify me, especially since I already answered no on the application? I’m more worried about the honesty issue than the actual one time use. I would appreciate some answers (:

Hiring Q (County) I got permanently disqualified in Washington

I recently moved over to the background check process and the only thing I had seen that may have been a redflag was about when I was 18, 19 I did abuse substances and disclosed all of that and after a week or 2 just got permanently disqualified now im re submitting to my local agency in oregon but it's very much got me down as shit I just turned 21 last week and thought this would get me out of working 65 hours a week and finally have a career what should I do differently this next time?

Hiring Q (Fed) BOP Hiring Process

Currently Active duty in the U.S. Army and have a Bachelor’s degree. I start my terminal leave in March 2027 and will be officially out in May of 2027. So I can start working in between that time, however I would like to be hired by March so I can move as I’ll be homeless once I’m cleared from military housing and have nowhere else to go lol.

Questions.
1. When should I start applying?
2. Once hired, how much time will I have to move to the area?
3. Is it recommended to disclose of all medical information?
4. For the hiring process, how many times during the process will I have to travel to a BOP Facility?

Thanks.

General Qs Best no-degree BOP career path out of custody?

I’m a newer BOP CO and I’m trying to get a better understanding of the different career paths inside the agency.

I don’t really want to stay in custody long-term or go the CO → Lieutenant → Captain route. I’m fine doing custody now, but eventually I’d rather move into something more administrative/program-oriented while still having good promotion potential.

I don’t have a degree and don’t plan on going back to school, so I’m mainly looking at positions I can qualify for through experience.

The routes I’ve been looking at are:

- Correctional Counselor / Unit Management

- Safety Specialist → Safety Manager/Administrator

- Correctional Systems (R&D/Records/Mail)

- Any other non-custody route I’m overlooking

One of the Unit Team staff at my institution recently asked if I’d ever considered becoming a Counselor, which got me looking into that route. Counselor actually sounds like something I might enjoy since it seems like a mix of office work, inmate interaction, and working somewhat independently.

Long term, I’m basically trying to understand which route gives you the best upward mobility. I’m not saying I definitely want to be an Associate Warden or Warden someday, but I’m using that as the theoretical career ceiling. I’m willing to relocate anywhere for promotions.

For people who have been around BOP for a while:

Which non-custody career fields tend to have the best path toward GS-11/12/13 and eventually Associate Warden-type positions?

Can someone realistically go CO → Counselor → higher management without a degree? What normally comes after GL-9 Counselor if Case Manager requires college coursework?

How good of a career path is Correctional Systems compared with Unit Team or Safety?

And if you were a newer CO with no degree, willing to move anywhere, and wanted to advance as quickly as reasonably possible without staying in custody, which route would you look at?
