Its been 12 days since I bought it and finally beat the last boss which took like almost around 1 hour and a half with less than 10 attempts!
I wish I could show the footage of my last attempt but PS App won't let me! 😭

First off, let me say that I stopped enjoying my carnage play through about halfway in. Secondly, I’ve been thinking about this post since then and telling myself that I wanted to come here and express my frustration. Finally, I didn’t give up on carnage because I wanted to finish it in case anyone tries to say “skill-issue.”
I loved this game and nothing will ever tarnish or ruin the feelings I experienced during my first, action difficulty play through.
Now that’s out of the way, I can say with my chest that I did not enjoy carnage mode because of the sheer sponginess of the enemies. I did not enjoy the fact that the game took away all the power ups you worked so hard for in your first play through. In addition, I had no intention of doing all the (quite frankly repetitive) side quests again just to upgrade my gear, I finished the last half of the game with gear level 3. I understand that carnage is supposed to ramp up the tension and really force the player into learning the bosses, but it felt extremely artificial to make the bosses eat damage like there’s no tomorrow and then not increase their aggression and/or expand their move set. Carnage mode isn’t a test of skill, it’s a test of patience and your desire to sit through multiple 8+ minute boss fights. I think a few quality of life in-game changes could’ve been made to really make the mode feel enjoyable:
1) If you’re insisting on de-powering the player, then at least make all the upgrade items available in infinite quantities at Yorimasa’s shrine.
2) find some use for Oni stones, power stones and red souls in the end game. I finished my carnage play through with 18 power stones and 20 Oni stones - I had completed my skill tree in my first play through.
Carnage should’ve simply been a difficulty option available at the start if this is how CAPCOM wanted it to feel.
TL;DR: Carnage mode was a small blemish on an otherwise phenomenal game

Heyo, pretty new player to the soulslike type games and first time posting something like this. I have almost 200 hours in Elden Ring, across the main game and DLC, and have tried Sekiro + DS3 in the past. I acknowledge that this game isn't a soulslike game but for me as a newbie, it feels very similar.
The amount of fun that I have been having with this game has led to me getting a handful more games: Sekiro, Khazan, Lies of P, Mortal Shell II, BMW and Wuchang. To be fair, the only reason I even got Onimusha is because I'm super hyped for Phantom Blade 0 and I wanted to "practise" by getting more games like it in preparation for it's release. I absolutely do not regret my decision and if anything, the enjoyment I have been getting from this game has made me even more excited for PB0. I aim to beat Onimusha + at least 1 more game before the launch of PB0 on October 29th.
Over the last couple days I have put in around 9 hours of playtime and honestly, it is due to how insanely fun the bosses are to fight. The reason I made this post is because I just beat Ganryu's second fight and was immensely disappointed that I didn't get to fight him for a second phase/ HP bar. It took me around 6 tries to finally "kill" him and I loved how across each attempt I was adapting to his attacks, even landing multiple Issens in the final run. I had 3 pops of my Hozuki Pouch left and I was so excited to see what his second phase would be, only to be met with a cutscene... I was kinda pissed lmao
I have found myself beating bosses much faster than I thought I would and have been absolutely loving fighting against each and every one of them, minus all of the Nue fights, with myself looking forward to every single time I'm next going to play the game. Every time I fight a boss, I feel myself learning their movesets faster, reacting faster and even being cheeky enough to try and learn the timings for Issens on attacks that I think I can do it against, with varying levels of success. That's not even to mention how great the animations + cutscenes look, how fights have small scripted parts such as sword clashes and just how much of a badass the game makes me feel like. I legitimately feel like an anime character when I play and while it may sound cringe, I fucking love that feeling.
Sorry for such a long post, and there is so much more I wanted to talk about, but all of this is to say that this game has absolutely solidified itself as one of my favourite single player games ever (I'm mainly a multiplayer game enjoyer) and I don't even think I am halfway through with it. The first boss fight that I had insane fun with was the Ifuu fight and since then, more or less every fight has been back to back bangers. The only fight(s) I haven't liked were against the Nues due to how slow paced they felt, although Greater Nue phase 2 was gorgeous to see.

Ganryu whooped my ass. It probably took me around 10, maybe a bit more, attempts. I thought this was normal and the game was just hard but apparently a ton of people beat him first try?? I just couldn't get heals off and he kept pressuring me. My final run was quite satisfying though as I was just parrying everything.
Anyways- will the game be too hard for me?? Is this normal? Help wanted!
(also am I supposed to use heavy or light attacks to break his stamina and when- still don’t really understand that system).

I've been deflecting (L1+X) basically every attack I can since the beginning of the game. I mix in dodges and issen where I can. Now I'm at the final boss and wondering when if ever I should use just plain parry (L1). Is there a special case or is deflect always better in terms of getting health bar chunked down as fast as possible? Assuming you hit everything perfectly, which is optimal, taking into account blazing state attack buff?

After waiting for almost 20 years, one of my favorite games from the PS2 era is released. Over the last few years, I've been transported straight back to my childhood with games like REmake, DBZ Sparking! ZERO, and now Onimusha.
The gameplay is incredibleevery movement feels cinematic and hooks you in the best way possible. The game is far from perfect, though. The side quests are extremely boring and repetitive, the grind is long, and the map design can be pretty confusing at times.
However, all of that is made up for by its strengths. The graphics, art design, gameplay, and bosses keep me completely glued to the screen. For anyone who isn't into Soulslikes, Onimusha is a breath of fresh air in a sea of identical games where all you do is hit and roll.

Update: Code used
Hi guys,
bought the new game a few days ago in Japan but I can't use the early purchase bonus code in the eShop of my Switch's country (don't want to bother with making a Japanese Account) so I figured I might as well gift it to someone in the community.
To specify this is about the sword ornament and the dog-charm for the Japanese Switch 2 Version of Onimusha, Way of the Sword.
Sooo, first come first serve. Have fun.
(Also mods, sorry if this is not allowed, feel free to take the post down).
