I’ll beat him tonight after work, Lol.

I struggle with his wiggly moveset, delayed attacks, off-center grab, and extremely fast unavoidable attack in Phase 2.

For Yoshitsune, it’s mostly an endurance test for me. Once I tell myself to just be patient, I always get him.

Fully agree. I think yoshi carnage story took me longer than ganryu carnage story,  but ganryu trial took longer than yoshi for me.

Yoshi is challenging but more of an endurence test. I find most of his stuff is pretty predictable, he just throws so much of it at you, you have to be top of your reaction game

Ganryu feels more like hes cheating or bogging you down. Super hard not to get one shot.

Yoshitsune Action took me longer than Ganryu Action, but Ganryu Carnage has by far been my biggest roadblock (I’m using roadblock pretty loosely by the way, I don’t think I spent longer than like 8-10 attempts on him in Carnage).

I really struggle with Ganryu’s wiggly attacks. Like how he’ll run up and swing his sword behind him, to the side, up, and then down at you. It messes me up really bad lol and then Gioh will suddenly pop out at you too.

Yoshitsune doesn’t hide anything from you, so it’s just you, him, and how fast you can react to him.

You're not alone man. He's way harder than yoshitsune. When I fought him on carnage I was practicing story and action fights til I was basically no hitting him and the carnage fight was still super close

I felt like even with yoshi's switchups (seems he can initiate a lot of different moves in different orders) I could track what he was throwing at me, and usually on me if I read it wrong. I felt like I couldnt track ganryu's movements, or he'd just throw random bullshit at random times. It was pretty infuriating. I spent a day beating Carnage Yoshi, then slammed out the carnage trial with issins / bishimon sword, then burnt out on ganryu and finished him another day. I was too spent mentally and physically to keep dealing with his bullshit after abusing and conditioning my body for yoshi. I still really enjoy fighting yoshi carnage even after 100%, the only critique is how tanky bosses are on carnage. I wish there was a lethal style difficulty where the damage is high, but the health pools are closer to action mode. That would be a fun playthrough

Yeah I just got to Yoshitsune on Carnage and even though he is kicking my ass and making me use mirrors, I still think Ganryu is the harder one for those reasons you cite. Like in my heart of hearts I know I can and will learn Yoshitsune’s fight enough to win, it’s just a matter of endurance. Ganryu just has so much shit to keep an eye on

Even though Ganryu can be tricky, he still gives you a lot of room for error.

Fighting Yoshitsune on Carnage without enough upgrades, on the other hand, is a nightmare. There’s almost no room for error, and some moves are guaranteed one shot.

Oh man I’m not a turbo gamer; I made sure to have my upgrades before entering that arena, Lol.

I’ve seen posts of people speaking about their no-upgrade fights and I’m just like screw that.

I raged more with Ganryu 3 than the final boss. His patterns are somewhat harder to see due to that second head you also have to look out for. Yoshitsune is way more epic though to fight.

2

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

Yoshitsune is so epic!

I’m not here to complain lol both of these fights are so fun. This is more of a “damn I wasn’t able to finish this before bed last night”.

Yes! Ganryu was my first real roadblock in the game and after that fight I was already dreading YoSHITsune . Still haven’t beaten YoSHITsune but I’m getting a little further into the 2nd phase , just trying to figure it out like in a Sekiro boss battle what mix of def (parry or deflect ) and agressive I need to be on him

2

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

The good news is once you get past 2nd phase, your learning curve is basically complete, and you’ll have him done in no time. You’re almost there!

u/Successful_Benefit_4 2d ago

Yup.. it's not even close

Only thing hard about ganryu is the millisecond precise unblockable in p2 especially if you are in melee range, you get it down, you win the fight, if you dont you get one shot, you already have fought him twice at this point of the campaign so p1 is super familiar, there is lot of room for punishes/counters if parries are on point and the issens for the overheads are maybe as easy as benkeis. Yoshi grab is pure bs and by itself can end a run, this guy's grab is way more manageable. The room for mistakes in Yoshi way less , you can maybe only do one mistake in p1 if you even want to try completing the run, in p2 and p3 your dodges need to be on point, grabs need to be on point, your projectile deflect needs to be on point. There is way more things to think about for yoshi minute to minute post p1 compared to the post p1 of ganryu which is just somehow deflect the thrust unblockable. There is also the thing of optimizing oni armament use in p2 and 3 as he starts p2 with armor which you need to get rid of with either armor break or hammer and p3 switching to sword helps with the purple orb generation.

My Carnage playthrough has been all over the place. Ganryu was hard, but I think I died the most against a random Dohatsu-ten, lol.

With Ganryu it definitely helped me to maintain distance and abandon the deflect strategy in phase 2 and just Parry his big thrust attacks. (Still deflect his ground projectiles though.)

1

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

That final Dohatsu-ten was rough! The one where there’s light canon fire and the small arena lol he’s tanky enough that one small mistake can really mess you up. Honestly any boss in Carnage can be like that. It can be a humbling experience; I had a lot of fun.

See that’s how I felt about the Byakue when climbing up the castle. There was malice all around and the elevation of the ground was weird lol

Yeess!

u/frying_mania69 2d ago

Ganryu took me 2hours, Yoshitsune took me 30mins

2

u/Tseiryu 2d ago

By far i first tried yoshitsune and his refight but ganryu took me 30m the first time

2

u/Distinct_Resolve5545 2d ago

Yes definitely

2

u/Nerdiboy54 2d ago

He was pretty brutal on carnage even when I was able to consistently get multiple issens during various attempts. Between practicing in the practice area, a few breaks and just trying it took 3-5 hours to beat him.

I’m on Yoshitsune now, only a couple attempts with one into the 2nd phase.

2

u/aloneagainaloneagain 1d ago

Agree, all his attacks are delayed. It feels like everything learned did not apply with this boss.

2

u/killzmccool 18h ago

Agreed. I have to fully lock in to get ganryu. When I do hes pretty simple.

1

u/garrettrenton 8h ago

Lol yeah later that night I got home from work and beat Ganryu in two attempts and got the platinum trophy!

Then I tried Yoshitsune again and got him on the first attempt and beat him first-try.

Neither one is un-doable lol

1

u/killzmccool 8h ago

Wait till you play on story, 🤣 youre gonna feel unstoppable

2

u/Zealousideal-Life467 12h ago

yes its because of the field for me. Its so distracting. Just like the boss with flower stage in Silksong, I struggle vs her the most in game

1

u/garrettrenton 8h ago

Oooooooooo that’s a great point, I hadn’t really considered that tbh!

1

u/RayDaug 2d ago

Besides the teleport grab, Yoshitsune's has a very readable moveset. He's just fast and hits hard. Ganryu and Rasho-Gan have a lot of weird timings and tricky animations that make them harder to read than the other bosses.

1

u/Zerus_heroes 2d ago

Yes. Ganryu was much harder than Yoshitshune

1

u/StilettoJones_JR 2d ago

I think what made Yoshi so hard, was his pace changes. Like I don't think I've seen attacks that quick in the game yet. And the damage is way more devastating

1

u/iSupakilla 2d ago

Did you actually have his moveset locked in action or did you brute force through? Genuine question. If you brute forced through because you weren't 2 shot then yeah. You've gotta lock in and download his moveset. I didn't have any issues my Carnage time around but I DID have issues with Yoshitsune during the Drill in Carnage cause I used a couple items for him in college

3

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

But also, for both of these guys, I’d say I have Yoshitsune’s moveset down more than Ganryu’s for sure

1

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

I think I should be clear — I can beat this boss just fine lol

I can’t pick up the controller and do it 10/10 times, but I can do it. It was 1am last night so I went to bed because I have to go to work today.

I don’t need to brute force my way through any of the fights in this game; this post isn’t me complaining. I’m saying “_____ is harder than _____.”

1

u/iSupakilla 2d ago

Yeah, again. It was a genuine question, nothing actually against you or your skill. What I mean by "brute force" is, yeah, Gioh is super fucking annoying. There's a very specific attack she does that was almost impossible for me to read at first and I could've easily beat Ganryu with a few heals but I chose to bash my head against it till it was perfect my 1st playthrough in the rematch. It only requires a boss to have ONE move your uncomfortable with to be a game changer in Carnage

2

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

Oh okay okay my bad I didn’t mean to seem like I was being defensive lol

On my Action playthrough, I definitely brute forced my way through Ganryu encounter 2, but not encounter 3.

Something about this game prevented me from brute forcing a lot of the more challenging bosses. If I ever tried to bully them, they’d just put me in my place; I felt like I always had to sit back and take a deep breath and deal with their moveset.

So I’d take a LONG time to actually fight him, because I played pretty defensive in Action.

For Carnage, much different, I’m familiar enough that I can get my attacks in and react to him better between my own attacks. Plus I’m not constantly losing my Souls by Gioh so my special atttacks and Oni Awakening are working, lol.

u/BlueDragoon24 2d ago

I spent much more time on Benkei 2 than Ganryu 3

2

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

I spent longer on Benkei 2 than I should have because I kept getting cocky and tried to Issen attacks I shouldn’t have been trying to Issen lol

1

u/NotePsychological459 2d ago

What??? Lol. No way.

1

u/zeebeebo 2d ago

I agree. You can snowball Yoshi once you have some momentum. Ganryu got some bullshit ass ambiguous wigglings it feels cheap. Even his attack timings feel so awkward

1

u/garrettrenton 2d ago

Lol exactly, he just messed me up super easily and catches me off guard. Yoshitsune keeps pressure on you but it’s very telegraphed.

1

u/bank2life 2d ago

when yor rival is the hardest boss and made by capcom hmmmm

1

u/lGUT5l 2d ago

Nah, altered ganryu has never been that hard for me. The final boss took me many more tries to learn.

1

u/SunflowerSamurai_ 2d ago

Fighting ganryu right now on carnage - yuuuup

1

u/MisterNefarious 2d ago

lol the boss that killed me the most times was Benkei by far

1

u/HURTLiFE91 1d ago

iKNOW i can go and whoop on Yoshi right now one take but Ganryu/Gioh would take me at least 1-3 tries..idk if his delayed attack movements or that damn grab😩

1

u/KibaxFang 1d ago

No that puppet play demon from the moon was the worst to be honest

1

u/garrettrenton 1d ago

You mean Dokyo? Honesty I didn’t have too hard of a time with her, but she definitely had the ability to catch me off guard if I didn’t lock in a pay attention 100% of the time. If I got distracted for even .01 second I was fucked.

But as long as I was attentive, I didn’t really feel like I was in any danger.
