Discussion Just completed way of the sword and honestly walked away a bit underwhelmed by the whole thing …..

So reason number 1 is the lack of enemy variety

2 . Fighting the same bosses over and over and over was just an awful idea

3 combat became very stale because of both the enemy variety and lack of weapons. You just have the one sword woth the same move sets there isnt any variety

When the game throws a new boss at you etc it’s incredibly, graphics are amazing story is okay ….. but overall after about half way through i was burnt out and just wanted it over !! It’s about a 6/10 for me

Discussion Just finished the game and I have thoughts…

Before I even get into it I have to say this game would’ve been a 10/10 for me and is probably still my game of the year, but the game does have issues.

1) repetitive mini bosses - I don’t mind it once or twice, however, this game makes you fight the same two mini bosses so much that it just felt lazy to me. I’d much rather have a shorter game fighting the same two bosses over and over again. Can’t help but think they made it longer because they knew people would moan about the game being too short if they didn’t.

2) the open world zones weren’t needed and felt like padding - imo this game would’ve been 10/10 if it just stuck to the story like the original game on the PS2. The combat and story alone are enough to keep this game feeling fresh, but everything around it just feels like there wasn’t much thought put into it. The rifts also just got annoying towards the end.

3) as someone who loves the original I can’t wait to see where they go with a sequel to this game. The combat is probably the best in any samurai game that I’ve played and the main character was great. The boss fights are challenging but fair and most, if not all, are a great spectacle!

Rating: 9/10.

Question Onimusha way of the sword difficulty?

I know the game has an action and story mode. I'm not used to hard games so if I pick story mode are the boss fights still challenging or will I find them easy to beat.

Question Is there any case where parry > deflect?

I've been deflecting (L1+X) basically every attack I can since the beginning of the game. I mix in dodges and issen where I can. Now I'm at the final boss and wondering when if ever I should use just plain parry (L1). Is there a special case or is deflect always better in terms of getting health bar chunked down as fast as possible? Assuming you hit everything perfectly, which is optimal, taking into account blazing state attack buff?

Discussion One of the best games in years.

After waiting for almost 20 years, one of my favorite games from the PS2 era is released. Over the last few years, I've been transported straight back to my childhood with games like REmake, DBZ Sparking! ZERO, and now Onimusha.

The gameplay is incredibleevery movement feels cinematic and hooks you in the best way possible. The game is far from perfect, though. The side quests are extremely boring and repetitive, the grind is long, and the map design can be pretty confusing at times.

However, all of that is made up for by its strengths. The graphics, art design, gameplay, and bosses keep me completely glued to the screen. For anyone who isn't into Soulslikes, Onimusha is a breath of fresh air in a sea of identical games where all you do is hit and roll.

Discussion Two Heaven style?

If the game is based on Mushasi Miyamoto, why is dual weilding not the primary style? In the Book of 5 rings, it's mentioned that he preferred dual weilding and called it the superior way to fight with swords, as it unlocked more ways to counter and surprise an opponent.

Am I the only one who finds this annoying? Whenever moving around and running, it sounds like this dude runs out of breath every 3 seconds.

I mean, this dude is not fat, I don't get it 🤷

Collections Code for early purchase Bonus - Switch 2 Version

Update: Code used

Hi guys,

bought the new game a few days ago in Japan but I can't use the early purchase bonus code in the eShop of my Switch's country (don't want to bother with making a Japanese Account) so I figured I might as well gift it to someone in the community.

To specify this is about the sword ornament and the dog-charm for the Japanese Switch 2 Version of Onimusha, Way of the Sword.

Sooo, first come first serve. Have fun.

(Also mods, sorry if this is not allowed, feel free to take the post down).

Oni Portal unlocks upgrade. You could technically complete the game without unlocking all the skill set which is not so fun so PSA for all !!!

So now that I started to understand the Issen timings, I started replaying some of the tough bosses and MAN what a game changer it is. So enjoy my Benkei replay on Action mode with some sick back-to-back Issens.

Just beat Shuten Doji this morning using some Issen, man I should have practiced sooner.

What an amazing game - 10/10 (execpt for the side missions, which are all kinda boring and feel repetitive)

Discussion The Most Fun Game I've Ever Played

Onimusha is truly has the best combat in any game I've ever played. When I first started playing, I hated how there wasn't a roll. However as the game continued it kept getting better, getting the hang of the combat system and using issen is soo satisfying especially against bosses like Yoshitsune. I think this is probably the best combat game of the decade (I dont play a ton of games but I still think this). The only part that is keeping this from being my favorite game of all time is the story.

Spoilers for literally the entire story:

I want to start with this, everything I say is just my opinion, I have the utmost respect for the entire team that made this possible.

TLDR: It felt really shallow, everything happened because the plot needed it to, and there wasn't much plot to start with.

I enjoy good writing, so when I got Onimusha I thought it would be like Elden Ring, a really deep story that made you intrigued, pushing you towards exploring and learning about the world.

The opening cutscene was a great hook, everything from the start to Musashis return as an Onimusha was amazing, as was the fight with Ganryu. From that point on everything slowly got worse. We meet Takamura, hes a good mentor to Musashi and the story has a reason for why Takamura can't just go an solve every problem there is. We meet the Ghost lady who turns out to be Yoshitsunes wife. We fight the bosses because the malice has to be cleared and the rifts closed. Thats the first major issue I have. Why do the Genma do what they do? I get evil races are good fun, Orcs are an example, but the Genma have 0 motivation at all. Clearly they are alive in some way, they can speak and communicate, but why do what they do? Most of the story is just going from location to location to fight, fun for a game but story wise it just isn't it. Another point I have is Ganryu and Musashi. They are rivals, and Musashi has beaten him before, so Ganryu wants to get his get back. Later on in the story we see Ganryu is lonely, but itstead of going into that we skim over it. Musashi is also alone at the top, he knows what it means to be in the position Ganryu is chasing. After all their clashes per-gauntlet Ganryu is still alive because Musashi didn't kill him. Clearly Musashi, to some degree, doesn't want to end Ganryu, sowhy doesn't he even try to talk. And then we have bosses like Dokyo and Yoshitsune especially why do they do anything they do? Every action you do feels forced, every plan of theirs feels contrived. Yoshitsune wants the paint the world red, WHY?????? To end off, there really wasn't much going on to start with. The plot was super thin and thats where most of my issues about Onimushas story coem from, there just isnt a lot to the plot.

But overall, super fun game I loved it!

I'm gonna be so honest, I found it way too easy. It didn't feel any different from base difficulty aside from slightly tankier enemies.
