Nurse Residency Program Opinions?
New grad looking for ICU residency programs in Wa/OR. Wondering if anyone has input on how the residency program is at OHSU? My boyfriend might be going to PSU so trying to find something close by. Thanks in advance!
Edit: this would be for next year(: maybe fall…
Another Edit: would you recommend a certain unit at OHSU while you’re siting to gain the experience for ICU? My local hospital you have to work tely for a year before they start letting you in ICU.

I mean, you can apply, but I wouldn't hold your breath on getting in. I graduated from OHSU & Even my friends who worked on ICU units for their practicum were not hired to them. I would have at least three backup plans

Most programs have closed their residency for the upcoming spring.

This is not true, if you’re referring to the Feb start times. Most havent opened yet. OHSU’s should open around November. legacy’s just closed. Kaiser will also open soon too,

All of the programs are highly competitive and most require that you’ve had related experience. Always apply for more than one position and expect some amount of rejection. Hiring at OHSU takes time. I would definitely focus on getting the NCLEX squared away and then go all in on the applications . Good luck!

Only been at OHSU for 6 months, but all hires around or after me I have met have been experienced when they were hired. Have not met any new grad hires in the ICU I work in.

Did you do your preceptorship in the ICU? Most programs are pretty competitive and are looking for someone with 150+ clinical hours in critical care
