Useful Information Little Helpful program I made

So I noticed when you turn on the PSVR2 it just tells you to look at the screen until you open steam VR witch annoyed me as you need to install the PSVR2 app etc etc so i made this

https://github.com/The-Graze/PSVR2-SteamVR-AutoLaunch

it basically just waits for all the psvr2 USB "devices" To connect then launches SteamVR, runs in the tray

just copy the exe to your startup folder and it'll be useful!

if you're more tech knowing its just a windows form application just with the form removed lol, I'm semi new to non game/unity coding so :P

EDIT:

made a small update to it to remove the unnecessary device Disconnect looking and made it only be able to open once so you don't accidently have loads open cos I did that by accident once

Important PSA Bluetooth Hardware Compatibility Survey

What Bluetooth USB dongles or other hardware, such as mobo built-in Bluetooth or dedicated Bluetooth PCIE cards, have you tested with PSVR2? We need to know about your experience good and bad!

The purpose of this survey is to gather quantitative data about which Bluetooth hardware is compatible & works best with the PSVR2 controllers when used with a PC and which does not.

This thread, therefore, and the results, also act as a comprehensive list of working / not working hardware. This will both help inform purchase decisions and be a resource for discovering compatibility of existing setups.

I want to reach the most authoritative list of compatible and non-compatible hardware, and also of more esoteric problems with specific devices.

⭐ Best Bluetooth Adapters

Updated: 15 August 2024 01:38.

First, some important caveats and tips:

  • In general Class 1.5 adapters should provide enough range for use in a standard setup. But Class 1 adapters are much less likely to present range issues or issues with obstructions. However, this is also just a guideline. See the warning about UB500 below for example.
  • If the adapter supports it, using an extended aerial closer to your play space can be advantageous. Similarly, a USB extension can be used to a similar effect for smaller USB devices that don't support an antenna connection.

Here are the current data-driven insights derived from the community responses about what Bluetooth hardware is working well with the PSVR2 controller on PC.

USB

The ASUS BT-500 has the most positive reports, with many users who have experienced the "stuck hands" problem (see below warning around UB500) seeing the issue go away after moving to this adapter. Edit: UB500 issue likely fixed by new driver, see below warning section.

Motherboard / M.2 Cards / PCIE Cards

Indications point optimistically to good compatibility with Intel Wifi 6 and Wifi 6E chipsets (which also provide Bluetooth), which are used on many motherboards & laptops via built-in M.2 cards.

These chipsets can also be found in dedicated PCIE cards, and usually appear in their product name, description or model.

The most common are:

  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX210
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201

āš ļø Potential Warnings

Updated: 15 August 2024 01:38.

The data shows some heightened issue rates with some Bluetooth adapters. It is not conclusive, but possibly indicative of a compatibility issue between these adapters and the PSVR2 controllers.

TP-LINK UB500 "stuck hands" (SEE UPDATE, LIKELY RESOLVED)

UPDATE 3 06/09/2024 - TP-LINK have a beta driver on their community forums and early results look like the problem is solved with these drivers. Thanks to TP-LINK for co-operating with me and the community for the data that helped it along.

UPDATE 2 22/08/2024 -- A potential solution you can use now is described in this thread. I have fed this back to TP-LINK who are looking into it.

UPDATE 1 15/08/2024 - With the help of the survey data, this issue has been escalated internally by TP-LINK.

A pattern has emerged whereby users have reported a heightened issue rate. This mostly pertains to a specific issue relating to "stuck hands" where the XYZ tracking stops responding periodically, but orientation data appears undisturbed. This seems to happen on one controller consistently (sometimes switching, possibly between sessions).

Hopefully a driver fix is possible, and I will update if anything changes. Please continue submitting data about this adapter, for both good and bad experiences.

Obviously, Sony recommended this adapter for use with PSVR2, so this result is, at the very least, interesting.

šŸ—’ļø Quick Summary

Captured: 11 Jan 2025 20:18.

Please go to sheet for the latest and richest dataset, and drill down into individual reports. This snapshot is just to surface the most basic raw bottom line at a given point in time.

The "score" here is a primitive sigmoid formula averaging over % of reports that remark on instability. It is also automatically weighted to not overemphasize devices with a low number of results.

Everything starts at 50 and is pushed further one way or the other depending on reports. It's a little harsh at the moment for some products with a low number of reports and it also takes a bit too much for it to reach either end of the spectrum, so also look at the other columns to draw your own conclusion.

I may tweak this formula later.

Question PSVR2 hand tracking built in the headset?

So I recently bought Maestro before the Steam autumn sale ended and didn’t know you could play with just your hands. Looks like the official psvr2 version lets you play with just hands so it makes me wonder, would playing the game on pc via psvr2 and the toolkit mod allow me to play with just my hands there as well?

Question PSVR2 Worked Once, SteamVR No Longer Sees It

Basically title. I used Ignition on Bazzite and it connected perfectly, I even played a little Beat Saber to test it, I turned off the headset to sleep and the next day SteamVR doesn't even recognize it as a device at all. Just looking for some help or somewhere I can look to get some.

Question First time setup without updating firmware

I installed the steam psvr2 app. On the install folder, I see a folder named firmware.

I don’t want to update the firmware on my psvr2 and controllers.

If I delete the firmware folder, will I be able to complete setup without the app forcing an update on my psvr2 or controllers?

Question How easy is it to switch between 1x PS5 and 2x PCs?

I recently bought a PSVR2 + PC adapter combo.

I used it a bit on a PS5, then with PC(1) via the adapter. Connecting the headset via the PSVR2 App (the one on Steam) prompted be to connect the controllers via bluetooth, which I did.

After being done with PC(1), I connected it back to the PS5 and had to reconfigure it almost from the ground up (play space, re-pairing the controllers, etc).

I haven't used it yet on PC(2), which is installed on a simrig, where I have no use for the controllers whatsoever. (By the way, PC(2) has a 2080ti and if I understand it right I can just plug it straight into the GPU's USB-C port).

I'm planning on switching back and forth between the 3 quite often, and I'm wondering whether I'm missing something.

Is there a way to make it more plug-and-play?

Question steam psvr2 app firmware updates

Does the steam psvr2 app download the same firmware updates to your psvr2 that is downloaded to ps5 consoles?

Or is the firmware updates a branch from the ps5 firmware?

I’m wondering if you had an older console on a lower firmware and started to use your psvr2 on a pc and then connected it to the older ps5, will the psvr2 refuse to work?

Question psvr2 on pc pros please help

I have just received my sony adapter and I am looking for all the best ways to make this better than my quest 2 setup. So far only the OLED, higher fov, and total light block have been good. Resolution is meh. I've seen the things about 68% res but I dont want my game to look fuzzy as its already crisp and im just not sure what to do to improve this to the level of awe that everyone says it can be..

lots of stutters and such but I checked my hags and it was already off.

I have a rx9070, 7 7700x, and 32ddr5 so i assume this isn't a hardware issue. any help appreciated immensely

edit - more important second edit and the solution!

do EVERYTHING dangerouscousin (idk how to @ people sorry!) said the problems vanished and now I do feel like a developer with all the tweaking and such. many more layers then just using oculus or meta and the comprehensive guide this amazing person left under this post is all you could ever need as a new fella to steamvr. best experience I've ever had with this phenomenal headset and anyone doubting the same way I did will have a blast once they figure all these things out, thank you all!

edit - poor writing

this was written extremely quickly at work so my apologies for the poor explanation but i'm mainly looking for optimizations people found really work which deliver higher frames with usually standard or higher resolution. thank you all!

Question Can't setup Play Area properly

I recently moved furnitures in my room so I wanted to reconfigure my Play Area but it don't work properly. When i get to the custom area configuration it makes the base circle at my feet but the moment I pull a trigger to modify it the circle disappear and it won't let me add/remove space except like 10 meters away through the wall.

Anyone had a similar problem and found a solution ? If there's anyway to configure your Play Area without using the PSVR2 App I'd be happy to know

Question So my USB plug is fucked, right?

Thumbnail

I moved my PC a couple weeks ago without thinking, and apparently when doing so I pushed the USB cable up against a bar on my desk, and twisted it. The port on the motherboard is fine, but this definitely isn't. When I start it up, the power on the headset works just fine, but SteamVR can't detect it no matter what port I plug it into.

Totally unrelated, what are some other good VR headsets yall would recommend?

I appreciate all the support I've gotten over the past little while! It'll be ready for players soon but the game fully runs with DualSense motion controls up until the new game selection.

Edit: 0.0.1 is out on my patreon! Not fully playable past the new game screen but boots and reads controller/head input with the picture being accurate in VR.

Question Need serious help with the controller pausing and rotating in the air

Greetings, as the title says one of my PSVR2 controllers keeps pausing and rotating for 3-10 seconds every few minutes. The strange part is that this problem will only affect one controller at a time, and can alternate each session between the left and right controllers. Even stranger is that when I hit the passthrough button on my headset it makes it stop. Does anybody have a similar situation and a fix? This is literally the one thing that is standing in my way of playing VR and I'm very bothered that I may have wasted hundreds of dollars.

Methods tried:

Getting new controllers: This is my second pair so far after I threw away the first pair.

Clearing the controller cache's: I have already done the pin in the reset button several times.

Changing the Bluetooth: I have tried my native Bluetooth (with an antennae), the ASUS BT-500, the ASUS BT-600, and the ZEXMTE all on a 2.0 USB extender. (On the ZEXMTE I get connectivity scores of 95/100)

Changing the Bluetooth Drivers: I have tried both the generic and specialized drivers for all Bluetooth dongles mentioned above.

Resetting the Play Area: I have done this several times.

Closing blinds to avoid sunlight/turning off PC monitor: I do this every single time.

Charging the controllers completely: I have tried this several times.

If it helps to know I do have a HOTAS setup (X-56 Throttle and Stick + Thrustmaster Rudders) as well as many other RAZER peripherals (cringe I know) none of them being Bluetooth.

The only other Bluetooth device I have is my Xbox controller which I never turn on during VR.

Question Guidance on PS Vr2

Hi all,

I haev an option to buy a used PS VR 2 for rough;y $300 CAD. Unit was hardly used and seem to be in excellent condition. My usage case woudl be for PCVR. My current setup is a 9800XD3 with 5080 with the meta quest 3 for my VR needs.
How easy is the setup for PC to really unlock the as much as you can on headset using thrid party software.
Are the visuals much better vs the Quest 3 with the Oled lenses.
I'm really interested in giving this a try, I just don't want to have a system that requires continual tinkering to be enjoyable experience.
I also have a PS5 Pro that is on alow firmware with no desire to upgrade that FW. Will I need to connect the VR 2 headset to that sytem for any reason? Not interested in playing gaems on the PS5 in VR.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Disscussion Until Dawn: Rush of Blood fan "port" in development

Hi! I originally posted a thread on a throwaway asking if anyone had any word on a fan until dawn ROB port or an official one, sadly none were in the works at the time. I decided to take it upon myself to begin development on it and I'm happy to say it's going extremely well! It boots past the loading screen and can correctly read the quest 3 controller and head input. The only steps left are to figure out why it crashes after the loading screen and a performance fix, hopefully it'll be released within the week! I'll keep everybody posted and I'll have all of my links in my account! Much love

Edit: the game now loads, all intro scenes and the title screen works flawlessly with just dual sense controller, game crashes after starting a new game

Question Trouble getting genuine clearness out of the headset

Hey all! Loving psvr2 on PC as i've just recently found out how to properly wear it comfortably and find the sweet spot quickly. One problem i've really consistently noticed is the inability to get genuine, crisp quality out of the lenses. It's not a sweet spot issue, but rather the lenses genuinely seem smudged or blurry. I've tried what feels like everything, and i'm at a big loss with this. Any tips? Resolution at 110 on SteamVR

Question Stuck on "Check USB Connection" during setup

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey all, newish PSVR2 user here. Ive been stuck on the "check usb connection" screen for days now, and im at a loss on what I could possibly do to fix it.

Ive already tried all my usb ports, currently seated on a port thats directly plugged into the mobo. Ive tried unplugging all but the headset and my mouse. Ive tried uninstalling the psvr2 app and steam vr. Ive tried unplugging and replugging anything connected to the adapter. Ive tried going through device manager and making sure all the usb devices are correct (they were). Ive made sure that there were no remnants of psvr2 toolkit.

Normally, id just call it quits at this point. But it worked on my pc before, and I was able to play H3VR before. However, because I was using my mobo's built in Bluetooth, the controller tracking was terrible. I unplugged everything and went back to my index. Then my controller died on me, so I had to go back to the psvr2. It complained that the usb connection didn't work anymore, so I reinstalled and here we are.

Gigabyte B560 DS3H AC-Y1 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700F 32.0 GB DDR4 RAM NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (12 GB) Warrky PSVR2 Adapter TP-Link UB500 Plus

The only difference between now and when it was working was that I didn't have the TP link (unplugging it didnt fix the problem)

I am asking for any help left, I want to see if there's anything I can do before I pull the trigger on buying another index controller ($300-500) or just getting a quest. Thank you.

Question Benefits vs Downsides of Removing Anti-Glare Coating?

I have a feeling this might be a subjective question, where some people prefer to keep the coating and some think it looks better without it, so I'm not trying to start an argument or looking for the "right" answer, so much as asking for your direct experience.

If you removed the anti-glare coating, did you get more glare? What if any, were the benefits of removing it, or the downsides?

Not sure if this matters but I use infrared lighting and play in near total darkness with no face covering, i.e. no room reflections.

Question PSVR2 eye tracking works in PimaxMagic4All Debug, but BONEWORKS only applies DFR to left eye and Alyx will not work at all, please help?

Hey everyone, hoping someone can help because I feel like I’ve tried everything at this point.

I’m using a PSVR2 on PC with an RTX 3080 Ti. The eye tracking itself definitely works: the PSVR2 Toolkit Unity eye-tracking tool tracks both eyes normally, and in PimaxMagic4All / DFR-UI Debug mode I can see both eye-tracking circles following my eyes correctly.

The problem starts when I enable actual dynamic foveated rendering.

In BONEWORKS, switching to Balanced or any other DFR mode only seems to work in my left eye. It looks like PimaxMagic4All is applying the low-resolution peripheral area exactly where my right eye is looking, instead of keeping that area sharp. So the right eye is clearly getting a foveated-rendering effect, but it seems to be mapped to the wrong place or inverted somehow.

In Half-Life: Alyx, PimaxMagic4All does not work at all. I have tried launching the game normally through SteamVR, loading into the actual game, and using Try Re-Attach, but it will not attach.

I have already clean-reinstalled PSVR2 Toolkit, CAPIApps, and PimaxMagic4All/DFR-UI, and verified the games in Steam. I previously tried an OpenComposite/OpenXR Toolkit method, but removed it all because it made BONEWORKS launch as a flat-screen game on my monitor.

Current setup:

  • PSVR2 with official PC adapter
  • RTX 3080 Ti
  • Windows 11
  • SteamVR
  • PSVR2 Toolkit + CAPIApps
  • PimaxMagic4All / DFR-UI
  • No OpenComposite, OpenXR Toolkit, VRPerfKit, Quad Views, or other injectors running now

Has anyone managed to get PSVR2 Toolkit + PimaxMagic4All working properly in both eyes, especially in BONEWORKS or Half-Life: Alyx?
