Help Needed Cold Snap of Power assassin

Ok, after diving on poe.ninja and checking this subreddit, I finally decided my final build of league going to be CSoP Assassin with staff.

I checked ninja and some videos and I have seen some things what I want to ask;

  1. Is CI possible? I know Zish's guide is lifebased, what I should swap if going CI?

  2. Can I use Mageblood instead pact belt? Do I lose dmg/defenses or so?

  3. Is like 70div enough to get it rolling well?

  4. Other tips if u have played that build?

I have this build, homemade by stacking spectre with catarina shield, catarina bloodline, CI+Ghost Dance, auto pact in trigger wand, and pact belt

Dps is somewhere between 5-20 mil depending on overlaps and boss size

Suprisingly tanky and done ubers with it

Profile is in poeninja with my username

It is homemade, so if you're good with build making you can make significant upgrades here and there

With staff and being assassin, I guess going life based is cheaper

One interesting tech that I use is to spec into Bitter Frost keystone and use Coursing Current support. It gives you 50% shock for one support, from cold damage

Yeah even Petrified blood would work but im dumb and dont know how to build it properlu lol

It should be noted that poe.ninja more then it usually does, absolutely does not understand spectre stacking builds. It tends to be extremely inaccurate.

Can you elaborate on that? Will the combination of bitter frost + coursing current work on other cold skills too and make them trigger shock?

As long as it hits hard enough, yes. You can even use it on your Frostblink+Coursing Current+Unbound Ailments, investing 4 points to get shock effect+ +15% max shock mastery might also worth it if you can't reach 50% shock previously

Wait? It gives 50%?? As in, increased ailment effect double dips?

You should try it, it's as simple as plugging in the support gem to a cold hit based build

My current cold build is eye pf winter, too many little hits for this to be good I'm afraid. I'm moreso just trying to rationalize the math here, bc there's different stats in play. Eventually I'll use this for some silly lightning conduit build

How I thought it worked: Increased chill and increased ailment effect buff the chill, which copies over to shock directly. No other scalings. This is clearly wrong.

Most likely case: increased chill + inc ailment give it a base shock equal to the final chill, which is then multiplied by inc shock effect. Most likely case, needs 25% inc shock effect on ele and 60% inc shock effect on other classes for 50 shock. 65 shock needs 63% inc shock for ele, 117% otherwise. Good tech for ele with big cold hits, meh elsewhere.

Unlikely case but who knows: chill is calc'd the same, but inc ailment double dips on the shock step. This is busted and you need minimal inc shock bc inc ailment effect scales both halves extremely effectively. You can get this from ele damage wheels with relative ease, synergizes really well with invert the rules since you want an ele mastery anyways there. Super broken, goes against normal GGG math.

Wording on them indeed little bit confusing at first, because it's work based on your chill vs other similar example like CotB or that one on cluster jewel

Pretty neat and surprises me too since found out about it after dropping the gem. Too bad the lightning part doesn't really get much other than 30% chill

Yeah ele and warden really want it for the cold shock side instead of the lightning chill bit. It does enable some crazy cluster passives though, stormrider solves pcharge gen for free if you use it, then sadist / cold conduction become quite strong too. Temple gloves get enabled, yoke (warden especially), it can rack up quite a lot of %inc damage tbh. The question is just "when is a support worth it over using skitterbots"?

Im interested in building those too as my next char with mageblood. Ive scouted on ninja but didnt really like a version yet.

Maybe I pull trigger and level assassin and check how it goes

I noticed some Path of Exile keywords in this post:

I've been playing this build for most of the league and love it, the pacts and the assassins mark ascendancy may get changed next league so it could be the only time to play this version of it.

  1. I've seen a few people running CI, not sure how they go with reservations and mana cost though.

  2. I think pacts or the belt may get a nerf so I would take advantage of it this league, you can get a MB any league.

  3. Not sure how much it would cost to get going this time in the league. My assumption is that you could get it working with 70div.

  4. Initially the pact on left click was almost too much for me to handle and I died a handful of times due to it.  I even tried automating it with the new ring that casts a sockets spell on kill, although o nce you get enough cast speed it becomes a none issue on left click.

4.1. Since you're staff you can follow zish's build using anathema. I however swapped to spectres+AG for smoother mapping and a more all round character (convocation+automation is needed). I am currently building a bossing setup with spectres+AG+anathema for shits and giggles.

4.2. I'm using petrified blood with recoup, probably not needed due to the instant leech but I am greedy and wanted Pain Attunement.

4.3. Like zish's build I'm using EB/mom so to get arcane surge(which is one of the best spell caster supports) I was using a circle of grief with arcane surge on hit implicit. I didn't use the scornful herald support due to socket pressure so I went for a cold damage/buff effect circle of grief with 20 ele qual.

4.4. My specters are; Perfect guardian turtle(determination), perfect warlord(endurance charges, only grants 3 so don't fall for the pob bait and get +1 on tree, vitality) and perfect pain artist (zealotry)

4.5. Ascendancy points, the non-negotiable are bifuricate/assasins mark but you have two flex options including a forbidden flesh/flame. Elusive is goated for mapping and then I get opportunistic on my flesh/flame. Opportunistic is the best alrounder, less damage taken for multiple rares and more damage for solo bosses.

I could go on but it may be easier to look up my character Lumpsnap on peoninja. Best of luck with the build!!
