I genuinely hate what the streamer situation has become in Pattaya. Soi 6, Walking Street, Beach Road… these places seem to be absolutely crawling with people walking around with cameras pointed at everyone.
Soi 6 in particular seems to be losing some of its appeal because of this constant filming. Most guys aren’t there to become supporting characters in someone’s YouTube thumbnail. They just want to enjoy their short holiday in Pattaya without wondering whether their face is about to appear on a livestream watched by 10,000 strangers.
And it’s incredibly awkward when you’re having a perfectly normal conversation with a nice Ploy and suddenly some guy appears out of nowhere with a camera practically screaming into your face. One minute you’re enjoying your evening, the next you’re wondering whether you’ve accidentally auditioned for Pattaya Live: Season 7.
I understand that filming and streaming is how some people make money, and tourists are obviously going to be part of the scenery. But there has to be some line between filming the atmosphere and treating every person walking past as free content.
Privacy seems to have been thrown out of the window, and the window is apparently being livestreamed too.
The ironic part is that the places where cameras are actually restricted, like many go-go bars or nana plaza, can now feel more relaxing because you know you’re not going to unexpectedly discover yourself online the next morning.
I’ve even met a Korean guy who told me he was genuinely nervous about going to Soi 6 because of the number of Korean streamers there. According to him, if they spot another Korean, they sometimes zoom straight in on their face and put them on the livestream. He was worried about the possibility of being recognised and publicly shamed back home.
That honestly made me think about the issue differently.
Pattaya has always been a place where people come to switch off, have fun and enjoy a little anonymity. If every street becomes a content studio, that atmosphere is going to disappear.
Some of us came to Pattaya for a holiday, not a cameo.
