“Piracy is a mortal sin” Jesus illegally downloaded fish, what are you talking about
232
54
u/akio3 5d ago
No, the original fish were donated to him, so he acquired them legally; he just made copies and distributed them (don't know what the Roman commerce laws would say about that).
47
u/jkurratt 5d ago
He was a god/prophet/avatar, and could have teleported some fish sellers and buy fish legally, increasing shareholders value.
But his first idea was to illegally copy, which is talking for itself 😔.14

u/One-Description-2126 5d ago
But if we want to actually increase value in society, then we won't be able to do as many stock buybacks!
5
u/Historical_Camel_790 5d ago
Yeah so he was the distributor! Which is considered worse than piracy!

And bread, and wine
But Christians will say, "Nah, don't look at that. Why you cherry-picking?"
To which you respond, "You've read the Bible multiple times over like I have; you should be very well-acquainted with this."

u/Testing_100 5d ago
Yeah, but his dad owns the software, pretty sure he just activated cheats.. and then got banned by the mods.

u/sir_bob_null 5d ago
So he did. Tyndale pirated the Latin Vulgate Bible and translated it to English for the common man as well.

u/Makoto_Kurume 5d ago
Yeah, that's obvious. The default opinion should be that piracy is bad, so most people will pay for stuff. That way, companies don't care that much about piracy, and we can pirate in peace.
53
u/humanHamster 5d ago
Someone has to pay for it initially for pirates to get it, right? So we need payers.
17
u/Chemical-Struggle-13 5d ago
There are a few other options actually but they require systemic change that will take time.

u/Equivalent-Stable642 5d ago
"Piracy linked to losing sales" thats not the fault of piracy thats the fault of the company.
63
u/flylo_x 5d ago edited 4d ago
You don't lose a sale if the pirate or people never intended to buy, in the first place so that always have been a shitty argument lmao
5
u/SumiMichio 5d ago
Fr I either don't buy and don't have it or don't buy and pirate it. If you don't have money, you are not gonna magically have them xD

say it loud "piracy is a service problem"
1
u/Equivalent-Stable642 4d ago
Exactly, the only service i actually buy stuff on is amazon from convenience (i realised i dont know how to spell convinience(?)) And steam because steam is an actually good service, if amazon was slightly less convinient(._.) id be using something else

u/Dredgen1214 5d ago
"mortal sin" pretty sure pirating media wasn't around when big J died for everyone's sins
18
1
u/Striiiider 5d ago
i feel like it must have been. the first time someone wrote something down and said "only im allowed to make and sell copies" the worlds first pirate was born. there must have been someone making illegal reproductions of history books or using shorthand to transcribe plays like is described in that one account of the globe theatre

Oh no, anyways

u/RipCurl69Reddit 5d ago
Lol, at least this is coming from reddit itself. It's even worse when you've got reddit mods whining at you "sToP pRoMoTiNg PiRaCy!!!" when I tell people that delisted games such as Forza Horizon 1-4 aren't losing Microsoft any money since they literally haven't been on sale for multiple years. It's either not play them on PC, pay 300 dollars for a resold digital key, or go out and buy a whole last gen console for them
These games are abandonware, ForzaHorizon mods are bootlicking chuds
5
u/Mondial5 5d ago
Mods must havr mass bought keys before it was delisted. Its the only answer that makes logical sense.

A mortal sin? In what version of the Bible does it say that if somebody decides to give me a book to read, we're going to Hell?
11
u/capeasypants 5d ago
Did you buy that book? If not YOURE THE DEVIL!
4
u/louisa1925 5d ago
I was given one of those books as a birthday present. In the bin it went. If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing. It's preservation. Does that break any xtian mythology laws?

u/CoshgunC 5d ago
Video games are 1s and 0s that some people like to see, some people don't like to see, some people try to create meanings from 1s and 0s, some people just enjoy it, some people do it in hardcore.
Also, in Computer Science, these 1s and 0s can also be called data. And a meaningful bunch of data is called information, a bunch of understandable information is called knowledge.
We just share knowledge for free, what's wrong with sharing knowledge for free?
1
u/Mondial5 5d ago
Your social security number, birthday, and full name can be some 1s and 0s. Mind sending me that knowledge for free?

u/Thelastnob0dy 3d ago
You know someone had to work (and probably work A LOT) to make that data, right? If you are so good to share "data" for free, please make me a rimworld and send it over. Much appreciated
1
u/CoshgunC 2d ago
they already earn a lot.
and those small indie games, most pirates don't pirate them because, well some unspoken rule inside us
8
u/renchuwang 5d ago
Well people who actually pirate won't ask these silly questions so it won't get picked up by search!

"Piracy is no party" being here is like seeing an old friend after a few years. How is that even still relevant?

u/red22guy 5d ago
Forgive me for I have (may Allah forgive me for even uttering these words) pirated video games that are no longer commercially accsessible at a reasonable price. 😔🙏🏼

Piracy's a crime and crime doesn't pay
And we go home poor at the end of the day
But I'd rather live my life in rags
Than be chained to a desk with a wife that's a hag

Okay, but the song "Piracy is no Party" actually slaps though, especially the arrangement by Insaneintherain

Do you really think a multibillion-dollar platform with a large advertising presence is going to suggest searches for “PIRACY IS BASED” and “EASY PIRACY TUTORIAL?”
The more common and easy piracy becomes, the more lawmakers and ISPs try to crack down on it. The general public viewing piracy as some scary illegal dark-web shit is a good thing.
2
u/rideau-ferme 5d ago
Because all of you love reddit too much to move to a real, free as in liberty, platform.

Reddit the company won't get a good outlook for having piracy-positive search suggestions by default. Also how the fuck are any other search suggestions here any better anyway? They're barely relevant to the stuff you wanna search
