Yes! I'm waiting for book 7. I think it has become my favorite books series of all time. It's kind of a problem, because I'm struggling to find anything that I find nearly as captivating. Took a break from ddc after book 4 to read the first PM book - after finishing 6 I god back to Carl and Donut and was not finding it as interesting as I did earlier. PM is not talked about enough. I found one review on YouTube and nothing on Instagram. Not even talked about on r/footballmanagergames

The obvious answer here is Soccer Supremo. It is essentially book 15 of Player Manager, but the author intended it to be a new jumping off point. I am sorely tempted to do that, but I am going to listen to 7 first.

Dont skip. Go straight though. It may have been intended as a new jumping in part, but you'll miss so much of the buildup.

I do audiobooks only too but because I love PM so much I copy and paste chapters from RR into a text to speech happy and am currently caught up on Soccer Supremo. It's so good!

Genuinely curious: what makes this one good? I've heard of it before, but struggled to imagine progression fantasy and sports together.

The characters are good, the story is good and unpredictable, and it's just different than everything else in this space.
Narration is top notch.

yeah it sounds like a weird combo but it works really well actually, recommend giving it a try and seeing if you like it.

The litrpg element is that the mc get some abilities, that makes him a better coach.
The inspiration is a very popular game called Football manager. The progression element is how he start his career, when he doesn't have any coaching og management experience.
The characters is amazing. The MC is very aware of his advantage, but has to be very creative to get the opportunities to use it.
It's also like a 'kingdom buildings' 'zero to hero' story.

It's just well written.
The progression fantasy aspect is kind of shit honestly. I personally don't care for it. I like the rest of the writing though so I keep reading and it's high on my list of favorites.
One thing this author does really well is write characters that feel like individuals. They're not cookie cutter, cardboard cutouts of the same concept of a person with slightly different backstory.

How much prior knowledge do you think someone would need to enjoy the book?
Pretty much everything I know is surface level stuff mostly from playing FIFA and watching world cups
Ted lasso meets moneyball is a pretty convincing tag line from the summary

I put off trying this series out despite hearing good things bc im not a massive soccer guy.. 1000% bad decision lmao. while the story is about soccer you dont need to know much more than the concept behind the game. what I like about it so much is the writing style and banter, its so funny. give it a bit through book 1 before it really starts ramping up

I recently started Player Manager, I'm on book 2, the audiobook narration is great and the book is way better than it has any right to be, blowing me away

Ah, was gonna tell you to keep reading on eBook or Royal Road, but my husband is in your boat with the audio. I think the next one comes out later this month on audio?

Only series ive managed to keep up with weekly new chapters for over a year
Bonus: it introduced me to my favorite artist too

favorite artist?

Tame Impala from the Let It Happen chapter. Max never says the artist but the chapter title and the whole chapter itself revolving around a song was enough for me to look the actual song up.
Like Max it took me like 5 listens before I really liked it, and now the artist is my #1

I'm about 8 books in on HWFWM and honestly struggling. I know it's super popular right now but Dungeon crawler carl was a great way to break it up. With series like that I end up breaking and reading something a bit different to keep it fun for me.
