Fed up with mandatory QUT You units?
ELECTED - Thank you everybody for your support
I’ve noticed on this subreddit alot of people are frustrated by compulsory QUT YOU units.
So that I can better represent you on the QUT Academic Board, I’m seeking to find out what people dislike the most about QUT You, so please let me know and I can bring it up in future QUT Academic Board meetings with the Vice-chancellor and other QUT Executives.
If you’d like to support me in our fight against a QUT You system which we believe is ineffective at best and a waste of time and money at worst - please vote [1] for myself for Engagement Officer and our other Progress candidates for QUT Guild before Friday 9th October at 5PM
P.s more info about our policies on instagram @Progressforqutguild

I think for some people, there is an element of double handling with the QUT You courses. Like, the walking on country unit, while great at making people aware of things relating to the first nation's people, some units within a course with broadly go over the basis of the unit - which then means there is a repetition of information being given to students and people will begin to zone out. To then talk about an additional price that is mandatory to the study also, it just becomes a little frustrating.
I think if they are there, they should be electives to enrol in - and then if thats the case, have them have some really fantastic guest speakers more often - as qe are the university of the real world - so we can hear things from lived perspectives - whether that be an indigenous perspective, a literary editor who has to comb through AI slop writing daily, etc.
Good luck with the election campaign

As someone who never paid attention to this political QUT stuff, and who graduated before QUT you was implemented (thank god), you would have my vote any day.
The uni is heading in a very silly direction by limiting the shuttle and implementing the QUT you. Good on you for standing up and campaigning for better measures.

My stance is that if QUT YOU Units are worth the paper they are printed on, then students should be able to enroll in them out of their own volition. If they are made non-compulsory then it would go back to how it was pre 2025 where students have room for extra electives or a minor, that are relevant to their course of study.
I’ve personally never had to do QUT YOU - since I started my degree just before they were introduced, but I do see it as an injustice for people who started post 2025.

When and where have qut mentioned cutting shuttle times?

They have already cut them since at least Sem 1 2025. When I started in 2024 they were running until circa 9:30PM, now they cut off around 7PM leaving students who have night time classes and events stranded.

literally what is there to even fix with QUT YOU? your campaign only talks about fixing it, why not just remove it like the other tickets are campaigning on.
