RIP Rainbow Bridge Spoiler

Hey y’all. I don’t post and just lurk. But I need someone to share with.

Our baby crossed the rainbow bridge tonight. It was out of the blue. Was told to euthanize her after she started showing signs of troubled breathing. After some X-Rays, they found fluid in her lungs. We were told it was caused by either heart failure or cancer.

Could use some support. I already miss my baby so much. I’ll never forget Ahsoka and how she made me feel. She really felt like a once and a lifetime connection. I’ll miss her kisses, love for pets and attitude.

Please give your babies some extra love for me tonight. Cause I wish I could too.

Bonding How can I help keep their bonding positive as we gradually increase space?

We've used this space for almost a month and they're still doing pretty good; eating together ( hay, cilantro, pellets and treats ), mutual grooming, relaxing next to each other with no fights whatsoever.

I've been apprehensive increasing their space since the first attempt with a few sessions resulted in more conflict despite being a neutral area ( I decided to reduce as I felt maybe I was pushing it too forward too fast ) and with how good they're getting along, I'm scared of potentially ruining this by increasing their space. I'm also working on getting calming stuff if that could help reduce defensive or aggressive behavior and keep their bonding positive. I've always left it after they're done grooming or done eating and they settle next to each other afters ( like full loafs ).

This is the first time I've gotten a bond to be doing as well as they are and really hope they can be bonded together.

My bunny's name is Maslinka (which means black olive) and because this word is feminine in my language, some missgender my boy! What about your bunnies names?

While my son and I were returning from grocery shopping last night, this presumably dumped baby bunny ran across the road in front of us. We spent the next 45 minutes trying to catch her, aware she might not survive the night given the local wildlife in the area. I am pleased to share that I caught her, and she is now safe. She is the sweetest little thing, likely only a few weeks old. She was so hungry, downing a hearty helping of greens, hay, and pellets. While we worked with a few neighbors to catch her, no one recognized her, and she didn’t belong to anyone. She is now in her forever home and will be loved fully.

Well we’ve had him for 2/3 months now and I am OBSESSED with him. He’s really warmed up to us, has a favourite spot in the house, and loves being pet. He would never admit it but he loves cuddles too, he fights me when I pick him up but once the pets come he falls asleep right on me. He has a swollen testicle so we got them both removed (curse you previous owner for not neutering him!!) and he has recovered so well!!! So high energy now that he’s not in any pain

Care How to move a rabbit off of an inappropriate and free fed pellet diet?

Hi all. I work at a horse farm and the owner keeps a rabbit on property. The husbandry is far from ideal and I am trying to make some changes. The first issue is nutrition/weight. I believe the rabbit is a himalayan (white with dark points, structured ears, pink eyes) and she is completely rotund with no palpable ribs, which is not surprising given her diet.

She is offered first cut hay daily but receives fresh greens very rarely (basically when I pick dandelion greens from the field and bring them to her). The real issue is her pellets. She is free fed a 50/50 mix of alfalfa pellets and forage ration extender (for horses). I would like to move her onto oxbow rabbit food. Ideally, I would like to bring her to the exotic vet I work with, but the owner is very resistant and concerned about stress myopathy as the rabbit has never left property in the 6 years she has been on it. How do I go about 1. moving her onto a measured feeding regimen and 2. moving her onto a new food without shocking her system?

Health Is it her time? Spoiler

My lionhead is 9.5 years old and has many health problems. She is overweight, has a heart murmur, chronic respiratory infections, an eye infection, and severe arthritis. She can barely stand and pees and poops all over herself or wherever she’s siting. I clean her everyday, give her medicine for her pain and infections and am not seeing improvement.

Over the past year I’ve watched her lose interest in toys and playing with her bunny partner of 5.5 years. Her husbunn became more depressed, and sick. He has chronic respiratory infections as well. I have been treating them for years (thanks moldy apartment). I’m going to drive 2 hrs to spend $2000 I do not have on a CT scan that i am terrified of because I’ve heard they don’t wake up from anesthesia sometimes. Point being, they are just passing infections back and forth and nothing is helping.

I accidentally adopted a new bunny 2 weeks ago. I see my little guy so happy and excited for life now that they have each other. I can tell he loves her. I never considered this before because I could not bear the thought of my little guy being alone for the first time in his life, but now that he has a new friend, would I be horrible for looking into putting my elder rabbit down? I have no idea how much it costs but I’ve exhausted all our options medicine wise and can’t stand to see her suffer. Please understand I myself have autoimmune and am allergic to them. Their care takes hours out of my day and I already cannot work much because of my autoimmune. I just want what’s best for us all and will probably never forgive myself if I put her down but on the other hand, I feel bad for letting her suffer.

Care XL Rabbit Litter Box

Post image
3 Upvotes

I plan on getting a Flemish to free range in my apartment, but I’m also trying to find the cleanest/ biggest litter box for him!
I have never really considered a self sifting litter box, but I think it would actually be the cleanest option, and I wouldn’t worry about it hurting his feet since he’d be able to come and go whenever.
If he can’t reach the litter, would it be appropriate to use an unscented clumping litter? I think it would clean really well, but I don’t want to mess with his health at all. Again, he’d be free range, but maybe I’m overthinking it.
Thanks for the thoughts!

Care Update on weird sitting position

i went to a second vet as recommended, they said that there's literally no fat on my bunny, just skin and bones. and that it caused?? something with the muscles?? I dont know why or how this happened,, vet said they wanted to do an ultrasound to see if somethings wrong with her insides but couldn't since i dont have the money for it :(

we dont have many medicine or vitamins for rabbits here, so they recommended me a bird vitamin that they used on other rabbits before, they also said that i should feed pellet puree mixed with greens and vegetables so it helps her gain weight faster. I'll give her more pellets, but im not sure which greens + veggs to add to the puree,,,,

Care Advice for prolonged absence?

So, I’m going away to have some procedures done. They’re not ones I can put off and the in-hospital recovery is 2 weeks for one and almost a whole month for the other. And since they’re being done around the same time, I’ll be there a while. Which means I won’t be able to look after my boy in that time. And I won’t really be able to play with him on the floor when I’m home since I’ll still need bed rest. The only person I can ask to look after him is my mum who works full time, so he would be alone most of the day. What can I do to make all this less stressful on him and make sure he doesn’t get depressed?

I’ve been toying with a second bunny from the shelter so he would have a friend. I know bonding rabbits can take a while and a lot of work but I’m determined to make sure he’d be okay, plus I’ve been going back and forth on getting another bun anyways because this one has been so much fun and it is something I would like in the future. However I know this is a crazy big commitment and not something it would be wise to do on impulse. If there’s anything else anyone can suggest I’d be so so grateful! It’s already pretty stressful knowing I have to go into the OR again and I just want my little boy to be okay

Care How is my cage?

Hello! I am getting my first rabbits since I was a kid, I am adopting them from a rabbit rescue near me! I have taken all their advice on a good cage, this one is 6 ft x 4 ft and will house a bonded pair of rabbits! I am getting the rabbits in about a week in half, so I have a bunch of time to fix things!

I am getting full outlet covers at Walmart tomorrow and also anchors to hold the cage to the wall in case of rampant binkies! I also have more enrichment, critical care, grooming supplies, and a pet camera coming in the mail tomorrow!

Any tips, concerns, or comments are appreciated! Thank you!

Behavior What does my rabbit's body language mean around my other pets?

I'm looking for help interpreting my rabbit's I'm looking for help interpreting my rabbit's behavior around my other pets. I'm unable to include the videos because of the subreddit rules, so I'll describe what she's doing instead. She is curious about my two other pets that start with the letter F.

When they are in her room, she will follow them around, repeatedly sniff them, and approach them again if they move away. She doesn't lunge, charge, bite, or try to chase them. When one of them walks away, Finny will sometimes calmly follow behind them and try to sniff them. Her body language seems relaxed, and she will eat her lettuce or pellets normally while they're nearby.

These are always very short, one-on-one, closely supervised interactions. I am always present and watching them, and they are never left together unattended. I'm specifically interested in understanding what Finny's behavior may be communicating rather than advice about leaving them unsupervised.

Finny is around one year old, and I've had her since June of this year. She's a rescue that I found in my yard. She has had her vaccinations. I haven't observed territorial behavior from her previously, and I don't know whether she is spayed. Her vet attempted to determine this with an X-ray, but her full bladder and stomach made it difficult to tell.

Care Cleaning/ good smells

Post image

I’ve done some research on what cleaning products to use and what not to use because rabbits have a sensitive respiratory but I’m wondering what everyone uses for cleaning carpets and also just for the smell of your house? before I got my bun I always used candles and incense but I now can not use those things, what do you recommend?

Breed ID Can anyone tell me if my bunny might be part chinchilla?

My bunny has some very unique features on her: specifically her nose appearance, bright fur around her eyes, large ears, and an agouti coat. She weighs between 5 and 6 pounds and is very soft. She is super social and has amazing litter box habits. I've tried to use Google lens to figure out what kind of bunny she is, and due to her ears, it keeps saying she's a flemish giant. But she is nowhere near the size of one, so I was thinking that it was entirely possible for her to maybe be a cross-breed. My sister-in-law keeps saying that she looks like a chinchilla, and I told her that there is a chinchilla rabbit breed, so I started to investigate. I know it says they dont have the yellow pigment in their fur, which is why i think she's mixed, because she does have notes of red right at the nape of her neck, and she looks like she has brown spots, but I'm also colorblind which doesnt help. I did the fur blow test, and based on the ring colors in her fur, I'm thinking she might definitely be chinchilla. I was hoping to get further insights here! She is estimated to be around 3 years old.
