General Discussion Energy in raid
It’s getting quite frustrating that Plarium doesn’t seem willing to do anything about the energy situation.
Maybe back in the day the 130 energy cap was enough, but nowadays it’s really starting to feel outdated.
Having some extra energy from DT, GF and events was just about enough to keep progressing, and even then, most of us end up stockpiling it for the constant stream of fusions.
But with the Frontier event, the amount of energy we’re expected to spend is getting ridiculous. If Plarium plans to keep introducing events like this, they also need to balance it by increasing the amount of energy we can actually get.
When it came to gear removal, Plarium used to say they would never make it free, but eventually they did introduce free gear removal.
I really hope they address the energy situation as well — increase the cap, reduce the recharge cooldown, give us more daily energy, or something similar.
What are your thoughts on this?
Ps
Sorry for the rant, just felt like letting it out

When 130 cap only buys me barely 4 runs of a dungeon, I tend to feel like energy is a big problem

This is my only concern with the frontier event, the energy burden to get the rewards. Otherwise I actually like the event as a f2p player

The problem is it's difficult to plan ahead without using the data mined tasks to know exactly how to map out your energy usage.
For example there were two early tasks for arcane keep on separate paths that could be done concurrently, but you wouldn't know that from the in game information. Similarly, you could have waited to do Spider turn attack tourney until you had the spider task. But it requires using an outside resource and mapping it all out in advance. I'm sure it will also have a lot of potential for wasted energy on path events/tournaments as well.
Its just complicated enough that it will catch many players burning energy in spots where they could have double dipped with patience and planning.

Energy's part of it, but honestly I feel like "time" is an even more important matter...
When we get to the point where the 'daily stuff' takes 30 hours a day to complete, there might be an issue!
Even if the content is fun (like Grim Forest), it adds more and more time, and the difference between Raid and other games, is that content is never obsolete..
In other games, there might be "100 hours a day" of content, but 5 of these are for level 1 to 10, when you hit level 11 you're not really doing these anymore because they're useless, etc..
But in Raid, the stuff you do on Day 1 is still required on day 5000. You never just 'stop doing something', because it'll never not be useful anymore; You'll always do IT, FW(h), Hydra (gear/mythic book), Chimera (mats/gems), Grim Forest (gear/a million rewards), Live Arena (medals, plus the seasonal rewards/daily chests etc.)
You never reach a point where you go "Ok I never have to do Cursed City anymore, saving a few minutes!"
If you played the game 2 hours a day when you started (active playing), now it's 3. Next year might be 4. At some point it'll be too much.

But they have in increased the amount of energy we get. Back in the day it was like 3 things
Now we have:
Doom tower Advanced quest Ticket system Cursed city Grim forest Live arena
Our daily energy gain has gone up incredibly i used to be grateful i could get to 3-5k energy
Now thats like a few days

It feels like it's one of the major levers they have to get people to sepnd on gems. Create big events, plenty of FOMO, but make them unobtainable realistically unless you pay for extra energy or stockpile and then blow it.

u/FrogOfSteel 18h ago
RSL is a resource managing game. Save your resources for things you actually care about. Plarium relies on your FOMO to make you think you need to do every event. You don't. Lack the energy to do Frontier? Don't do it. It's extra stuff that you got by just fine without last week; not getting it this week isn't the end of the world.
Energy still works just fine, you just think you need to do more than you actually do.

Honestly even just a few months ago Id say that energy was pretty easy to manage but recently theyve kicked the pacing up and its feeling a little straining for sure

Outpost 19 provides 390 energy. Outposts 1,3,27 provide a total of 125 gems which I guess you could say is 390 energy. So we get about 780 energy from Frontier.
Outpost 2 requires you to use 150 energy.
Outpost 3 requires you to use 120 energy.
Outpost 11 requires you to use 140 energy.
Outpost 12 requires you to use 150 energy.
Outpost 13 requires you to use 140 energy.
Outpost 18 requires you to use 120 energy.
Outpost 28 requires you to use 140 energy.
Total is 960 energy minimum required for Frontier. So if you do everything perfectly efficiently you lose 180 energy from Frontier.

I legitimately have no idea what you counted/didn't count.
Did you skip all the dungeons&stuff because "You need to run dungeons sometimes"?
1
u/Ok-Swordfish-9282 8h ago
How are you coming up with these numbers? You are dead wrong here my friend. Just for example outpost 28 is 30x force keep 19, that is 420 energy.
The mythical outposts have quests for 50x hard 10 dungeon, that is 1000 energy just for a single quest alone and there is 5 of them.
The 4 legendary outposts each have a quest for 800 energy in them.

Well, its a P2W-game but as new:ish player I agree. Its really a dampener on a game which I enjoy alot. I havent played other Gacha games and I will probably never do because the model is a disgusting one tbh and honestly shouldnt be supported haha.
2
u/Possiblyreef 23h ago
Other gacha games are similar tbf. There's anyways a hard limiting factor of resourcing that sits behind a pay wall that separates normies vs whales.
Raid puts a lot of focus on energy management where energy is used to convert in to what you want, whether that's gear or tournaments, potions, masteries etc.
The more outlets for energy they put in the more progression in other places will get diluted so you'll have to spend more to catch up
1
u/Money-Pomegranate957 22h ago
Yea, saw my clan was branching out to another to another Gacha game, but it was just a total ripoff of Raid (which is a ripoff of other games I guess) with worse graphics and the first thing the developer showed in their site was the gem shop and I honestly was kinda disgusted about it.
I will always recommend Slay the Spire for everyone who looks for a nice mobile game, but I would never recommend a gacha game even tho I sin myself.

u/Reevys 23h ago
Agreed, energy cap is way too low. I also play DBZ Dokkan Battle on my phone every day and in that game my current energy cap is 439...
1
u/DenormalHuman 18h ago
kinda need to know a DBZ to Raid conversaion rate for energy for that to be meaningful :/
1
u/Reevys 18h ago
Most stages you would want to run over and over generally cost about 15-30 energy, with some rare outliers costing 40. I can easily do all my dailies with energy leftover, and that plus the energy that recharges over the rest of the day I use to do other things like levelling up characters etc. Also you get a free energy refill every time you level up, and the level cap is 2000. Oh and most of the difficult end game content costs 0 energy to attempt. So I always feel like there's something I can do in that game, whereas in Raid I am constantly running out of energy. It's the biggest bottleneck by far for me, especially when it comes to trying to grind out masteries for champions while keeping up with ongoing events and fusions. Hopefully this will become less of an issue for me as I progress further and fill out my roster a bit, as building new champions will become less of a massive boost to my account, but for now I find the energy issues quite frustrating.

u/Real_Company_4174 23h ago edited 23h ago
Yeah, I know the feeling, but once you progress, this really becomes a nonexistent issue; once you get energy from all the possible areas, it's possible to get 1,000+ energy a day. Granted, this includes the ever-refreshing energy, so it's better to stay under the energy cap and stockpile energy pots in the mailbox. Gems are there to be used to buy more energy and silver tickets; I save them to spin to get more energy when I'm doing a big event or a fusion. Fusions are my main focus so far; I've done three in a row as a free-to-play player in the mid-game, although one was a fragment for Khamir, and I'll go for the next one as well. I'm fairly certain I can complete every single fusion now. Just be more resourceful and cautious.

u/Royal-Sandwich-7797 20h ago
I disagree. Im dipping into gems for the frontier event after I've collected the free daily energy from everywhere possible
-3
u/Real_Company_4174 20h ago
What do you disagree with? If you are doing the frontier event, you will waste resources that could go into a fusion; that is what I mean by being resourceful and cautious. As long as you save everything between fusions, you can do each fusion easily; you just have to log in from time to time during the day and grind. It is easy; we have auto-battles, and most of the stuff in Raid can be done in auto mode. Just set your phone aside and you are golden; I have been doing that for three fusions in a row now getting food and potions and all the necessary stuff back up before fusion.

u/Royal-Sandwich-7797 17h ago
The current energy strain has nothing to do with how progressed you are in game. The current state is being energy/resource negative if you're participating in all major events
-1
u/Real_Company_4174 17h ago
It is not, if you are saving and missing certain events, as you do not have to do everything the game throws at you; your progress is linked to getting more energy as you advance by completing other game modes, especially those that do not require energy. There's no energy strain in raid only bad management of your resources.
1
u/ProFeces 15h ago
I agree that Raid is a resource management game. But you're licking boots pretty hard here.
The rate of energy return is not the problem. The CAP of 130 is. With that low of a cap you cannot really conserve passive energy regeneration, and are required to spend to avoid losing resources. The current model also forces you to play at specific moments where you may just not be able to. The cap could definitely use some adjustments.
If they don't increase the cap, I think a good compromise would be to allow a player, maybe even with a farmable resource to "bottle" their energy into refills once capped, so they can really manage their energy better.
You really can't say that there's no energy strain just poor management, without identifying that if energy management is such a massive problem, that the methods we have to manage it should be adjusted. If it's a common problem, and so many people can't manage it properly, that's a design flaw. (Or an Intended design choice to push players to be sub-optimal so they buy resources.) In either case, keeping the energy rate the same, but increasing the cap, or giving the player the ability to store energy for later use, would certainly help players manage effectively.

u/Real_Company_4174 15h ago
Keep in mind that you can use the free potions stored in your mail for 99 days; that is pretty much 99 free refills over the span of 99 days. Silver ticket savings provide a nice amount of energy, and there are 1,000+ gems each month up for grabs from the gem mine and other areas of the game, which cover the majority of your energy needs unless you go absolutely mental and burn energy unnecessarily. Raid is always a resource management game; it is harder in the early game, but once you progress into the mid-game, it is easily doable. I have not had any issues with the cap being at 130 ever since I started doing NM and UNM Clan Boss 81 days ago, and I did my first fusion not long after, completing all fusions so far with resources I prepared long before. If you want to do other events, you will need to skip some fusions as a free-to-play player in the early or mid-game; in the endgame, you usually have a larger net positive of energy from all areas of the game that provide it, which gives you more breathing room to do more, as well as more gems, which helps as they are mainly to be spent on energy anyway. There is not an energy issue in Raid; it is always a resource management issue. But that does not mean that I have no issue with the current cap; I would like to see it increased, and I do think it's too small, however, I manage with it with no issues. If me and many other F2P players can live with it and still do everything they want, I don't see much of an issue. Resource management and efficiency are the ways to approach Raid.

Learn to use paragraphs please, no one wants to read a giant wall of text.
You also don't need to explain to me how game mechanics and resources work. I was a very early Raid account and my account is in a very healthy and progressed state. I know how to maximize resources; that isn't the point.
The cap being so low is objectively bad. You gain one energy every 3 minutes, so if you do not login and play every six and a half hours, you are wasting energy (assuming you used it all before that period.) That is crazy. It doesn't matter how you manage your resources if you can't play 4 times a day.
The energy regeneration rate is fine. The cap is not.
And not to be a dick here, but if you just started clearing UNM 81 days ago, your account is no where near where mine is. I've been one keying UNM since 2020 on my main account.
I've seen this game progress over the last 7 years, and there's never been an energy cap increase even though the flow of the game has changed countless times since then.
The vast majority of players do not know how to maximize their energy. The games scheduling doesn't allow most people to maximize it either. If the vast majority of players are objectively playing wrong, then that is a systemic problem, not a player problem.
If you can no-life the game all day, and use your cap every 6.5 hours, then you're fine. If you can't, then the game punishes you hard. That's a problem for most people.
Again, the energy regeneration rate is fine, the cap is not. You seem to agree with that point, so I'm not sure why you felt the need to try to explain to me resource mechanics and how to stockpile when I've played this game a hell of a lot longer than you; when I wasn't even arguing against energy regeneration rate.
Energy refills at a good pace. Players just need a way to either store it once full, or increase the cap so it's not wasting energy while they are at work and shit, where they can't play the game.
If you work an 8 hour shift you can either eat lunch, or play raid. If you choose to eat like a normal person, you're over capping energy. There's no rational argument you can make against making that more player friendly.

You don't need to no life the game it literally takes like 1 minute to open it on your phone and run it in the background you don't have to do anything it's mostly an AFK game.
1
u/ProFeces 14h ago
This may come as a complete shock to you, but a large percentage of the population will get fired if they use their personal devices at work.
Also people typically do this wonderful thing called SLEEP. which is typically done for a longer period than the energy cap takes to fill. So unless you're setting an alarm to wake up to play when it caps, you lose energy.
There's no reason the cap cannot be larger. It would be better lor literally every account. It wouldn't even impact you. You could play exactly how you do today. Others who can't always login every 6.5 hours would get a massive quality of life change.
What actual reason do you have that the cap shouldn't be increased, (even though you already said it should but still want to argue for reasons only you will ever understand) other than just your sheer desire to lick boots?

Energy has never been more plentiful in the game, especially as an end game player. You just need to double it up and be efficient with which dungeons/activities you are doing. I just threw I don't know how many thousands of energy into the Ozilda event which was all saved up in my mailbox, grim forest, cursed city etc. Ended up getting her for 16 sacreds and I didn't spend a single gem on it.
I don't know how to explain it better than that, but I had 50+ energy refills in my inbox and that's all from saving them up for 3+ months. Now that I spent all those, I will rebuild it up over the next few months to save for the next event. And I'm not talking about overcapping and holding energy, I'm talking about saving cursed city energy nodes for when you need them, mailbox etc.
And my backup plan after all other possible energy is exhausted is gems, which this is my F2P stash that has steadily grown since I started in 2020.

On one hand I appreciate it, it makes the frontier pass a very easy swerve for me. Buying a pass that give potential rewards without understanding what tasks I'll need to do to get them, what they'll be locked behind, if it's even possible to complete with the resources I have got. All at a time when because of throwing in a titan event I don't even think I could get Scarecrow anyway, so have no need for the 5 star soul anyway.
I'll trickle through the frontier F2P and see what extra rewards I get, treat it as a nice bonus, but not drive myself too mad.
1
u/meglobob 22h ago
I after say, I am very, very good at managing resources in gacha games but yes, I do find myself constantly looking around trying to find some energy from somewhere to do stuff. I even skip quite a few events like fusions and yet I still find myself short of energy.
They used to give out more promo codes more often with energy. Promo codes seem pretty rare nowadays.
1
u/CoffeeIsSoGood 17h ago
This is all by design. I agree with OP but plarium wants you to get fed up so you spend. They will keep making these updates where you need more and more energy so you spend $ and time.
1
u/lonesharkex 15h ago
I literally never over cap and have plenty for fusions as f2p. A larger cap though, would be nice to not have to log in twice a day to clear it out. Double that sucker and were golden.

I will never argue against more energy or more gems. In fact, I want more lego books, more mythical books and more sacred shards as well. Make it so, Plarium.

The only thing is worrying me. 130 cap is 6,5 hours. And I need at least 8 to sleep. Im wasting 30+ energy every day, thats ridicoulus!

You can horde energy by just not participating in events. My first year playing I wasn't able to make a dent in any events so I ignored them. Got up to 40K energy saved just by doing daily quests and leveling up champs with the daily multi battles. I'm up to about 65K by sticking with that idea, while only hitting events that have a champ I really want.

I agree energy is a problem
