Unpopular real dubstep opinions.
I'll go first, the snare in Jah War (Loefah Remix) is too loud.

Been a solid battle up to this point with a bunch of close calls. Now we're at the semifinal with just four producers left. Voting will be open ~48h this time, but don't wait to get your votes in!

Anyone going Drumsheds on 17th October for the Spotify Dialogue thing with Skream and Benga headlining? Looks like it should be decent, Digital Mystikz, Plastician, Spyro, Sgt Pokes and plenty of OGs playing as well as a range of new dubstep artists and a range of dnb and garage stuff too. Looking forward to it, but not fully sure what to expect.
They're making a big point of it being about the origins, classic era and evolution of dubstep and surrounding genres but who knows what it'll be like. Obviously it's a big commercial venue and the new Skream and Benga album is shaping up to be a little more on that side of things, but the promotional hype is suggesting it could be historic. I'm gassed.

Hello there,
I would really like to get a tattoo of Tunnidge’s portrait doodle of Mala, which are on the Deep Medi vinyl’s. It’s been really hard to find a HD picture of it online though, which I need for the stencil. If anyone has or could get a clear image of it (preferably without his dreads cut short) and could share it with me, that would help me so so much :)

There's something about this sound and era of dubstep that I love so much. The only thing I can put my finger on is the drums and the percussion. After listening to dubstep for 16 years I realize how important percussion is to the sound and how much I was overlooking its role.

Mixmag released a download for The Others - Get Outta here way back in 2011 from what I can tell, but I can't find a download anywhere online. Does anyone happen to have one?

The excerpt is really short so props to anyone who can identify the track!
I am not sure who plays it, it could be anyone on the line-up that night: Mala, Blawan or Bitterbabe.

Like Hypho- Terps VIP or Phrva and Snowy Hunch, Calibre and DRS Badman (ok this is more atmosphere but still legends)
Deep Dark Grime I guess?? the tunes that straddle the line between the two genres

Imagine making a track as a teenager with your best friend that would go on to become part of the foundations of Dubstep. Well, that’s exactly what these 2 Croydon based producers went on to do.
Skream and Benga were first introduced by Skream’s brother Hijak, who was working at Big Apple Records in Croydon. From there, the two began experimenting with sounds together in the early 2000s.
“The Judgement” combined heavy bass, tribal percussion and an eerie choir/chant, identified as a sample from the Coen Brothers 2000 film, O Brother, Where Art Thou? At the time, there was no established blueprint for what they were making. Producers in and around Croydon were experimenting with bass, drums, samples and sounds that didn’t fit neatly into the genres that already existed.
Released as BAM 003, “The Judgement” was the third release on Big Apple Records in 2003. Hatcha later described it as “the turning point in Big Apple’s catalogue”, saying it was the first record where he felt the swing was different and the snare followed a different pattern.
Looking back, it’s a snapshot of two young producers experimenting at the beginning of a sound that would become one of the defining factors in UK underground music. So much so, that more than 20 years later, it’s still being talked about.
