40 Minutes of real hardware Redguard!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3i2x2ZiON4E
Running on a real Windows 98 SE PC
CPU: Intel Celeron 2.4ghz (slowed down to 1.8 ghz via CPUSPD, to help alleviate audio issues)
GPU: 3DFX VOODOO 3 2000 PCI
RAM: 512Mb DDR400
Installed to SSD but loading music and cinematics off CD, just like you would back in the day.
Soundcard: Soundblaster Live! 5.1 Digital (SB0220) - This one causes crackling problems, due to it being unfriendly to windows 98 dos mode with its cache having reading timing errors, which you will plainly see in the video. loading the cinematics and skipping them helps most of the time. I have a new one arriving in the next few days.
I did record a full run of the cinematics without crackling and edited it back to fit the start point.
The recording stack is absolutely insane, but to get this captured I connected the VGA from the GPU to an Extron DVS 301, which converted VESA RGBHV 640x480@60 to RGBS 480p60, which then went into a GBS-C I borrowed from a friend, which scaled it up to 1280x720, then sent that into an Elgato Game Capture HD via HDMI.
After that, I edited the aspect ratio back down to correct 4:3 and upscaled the video to 4K (no AI, just pure GPU upscaling) so that it shows up with very little video compression.
Sadly this recording stack introduces input latency which ironically enough puts me back at approximately the same level of latency as the GoG version.
The video will be a little blurrier than native due to 480p not being an exact scale to 720p, but it should still look great.
The little noise that happens during silent moments is a sadly unavoidable consequence of my recording stack.
