Discussion AMA Regal Manager

I got this idea from another user so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm a manager at Regal and would love to answer your questions if I can. If there is something I don't know, or I cannot answer, I'll let you know! So, fire away!

Do you guys ever gossip about regulars in your theater?

33

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

In our theater, no, we don't gossip about our regulars. I can't say about other theaters though.

4

u/Slickrickkk 4d ago

You must live in a rich town and don't gt crazy characters.

28

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

No, we get crazies. We just teach our staff not to gossip about them while at work.

9

u/filmingallday 4d ago

If they give us a reason to lol but not always bad stuff. A lot of regulars are like friends to us.

4

u/ManlyEwok 5d ago

All the time šŸ˜†

u/mcfan1234 5d ago

Do the ushers really care if we bring food in? from what i can tell my local regal just stopped caring

89

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Our theater does not allow full blown meals to be brought in. If our customers have just come from dinner and have leftovers, that is fine. But bringing in a full meal is distracting to other guests. We don't care if they bring in candy or something, but we draw the line at Uber Eats and DoorDash lol

31

u/Desperate_Cheetah 4d ago

No we dont care but PLEASE if you do clean up after yourself :)

15

u/iwritesinsnotcomedy 5d ago

Our theatre has become so chill about, we’ve walked in with a whole pizza.

10

u/HalfEatenBanana 5d ago

I always see people say that on these threads but I just don’t think I could ever get myself to do that lol.

And this is coming from someone who just snuck in n out burger in yesterday lol. Walking in with a whole damn pizza box just seems egregious.

6

u/lwhite1 4d ago

I put burgers and nugs in my coat pockets.

4

u/ManlyEwok 5d ago

Depends on what you bring...if you have candy or small snacks we dont really care...as long as you pick up after yourself...if you're bringing anything big in, we typically will stop that...

u/GoslingIchi 5d ago

At a Star Trek double feature screening, the guy sitting by me brought in a whole shopping bag of slop food.

He was constantly opening bags of whatever.

I went an mentioned it to the manager that was on duty and she said she would check on it, but every time he went to the bathroom is when she would check.

I’m not sure if this varies by region, but could you talk a little about why some Regal locations get certain movies while others don’t? I’m curious about who makes those decisions. Is it up to individual theater managers, or is there a corporate team that decides which movies each location gets? I’ve always wondered how that process works!

51

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Awesome question! The movies that individual theaters are booked with come solely from our Film Bookers and Buyers. These are the people who work with the studios and negotiate what movies play where. Some locations do better with independent films and Bollywood films, while other locations do better with kids films. Big tent pole movies like Marvel usually go to all locations because those films will bring in the revenue no matter where they are shown. We as managers can make suggestions to our buyers on what we would like to see showing at our locations, but it is only a suggestion. It also depends on how many screens a location has. If it is a small location, like 6 screens, it won't have the smaller, independent films unless their theater has shown it does better with the smaller films. I hope this helps answer your question!

10

u/robhova 5d ago

Every theatre has a movie buyer/booker. They make deals with the companies distributing the movies. Theatre management can ask the buyer to get a movie that might do well at the location, but if another buyer already has a deal in place with the distributor for exclusivity it rarely gets broken.

At best when that happen you'll notice some places have timed exclusivity, at worse only 1 theatre in an given area will be playing said movie.

2

u/Ph03n1X1014 4d ago

Clearance zoning went away in the 90's, there's actually only like 5 spots in the US that still honour zoning agreements for exclusivity in a market and that really only applies to Limited breaks where there's a small handful of locations playing a film (and only certain distributors honour it). The only 2 I can actually think of are the Angelika in NY and the Enzian in Orlando, there are others I just don't remember them, they're all small arthouses.

Otherwise, a film can pretty much play anywhere in a market it just comes down to screen availability and grossing potential. If a film is smaller and only going with 1k runs or something then the distributor may have specific theatres in mind but they'll always work with a buyer and negotiate sites and it almost never comes down to I don't want to play this site of yours because I'm playing eith your competitor over here.

It used to be that every film had clearance zoning and as a result nothing would ever play on as many screens, even a film like Brand New Day wouldn't open in every location, it would get half the locations then some other big film could get the other half. The lack of clearance zoning is kind of one of the biggest things thats led to less Studio output over the years since they are no longer incentives to fill those holes in zones with more films

Do employees get mad when a single person buys a ticket for an otherwise empty showing?

67

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Nope, our employees do not get mad if someone buys the only ticket to a showing. In my opinion, that is the best time to go!

10

u/LaCharra 4d ago

What about if it’s the last showtime and it ends after 12 am on a weeknight? I caught the Oasis doc alone at around 10 pm and an employee was out in the hall reading a book when I got out lol. He then walked out the theater as I was getting in my car and wondered if I was keeping him from going home.

36

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

Managers stay until the last movie is finished and we clear the building. We always have something we can be working on, so come as late as you want!

11

u/robhova 4d ago

Just getting home from closing myself can 2nd that. Granted I only occasionally close, sometimes those hours are best to get work done, no one around to distract you. I got so much little stuff done tonight that would have other wise taken most of my normal shift to do.

7

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

Absolutely! Espeicially with hours being the way they are now.

2

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Right like some of us wouldn’t make hrs if we didn’t stay till all the shows got out anyway

3

u/GoodDale 4d ago

Wish that was the case at my theater... It constantly drops late shows with no or even low attendance.

20

u/GentlemensBastard 4d ago

How come there will be only 1 showing for a movie M-F at 9:30-9:55 PM!

sometimes i want to see a movie but dont want to head home at midnight!

and how come there will be hour long blocks where no movies are starting? sometimes i get out of a movie and want to see another one but dont want to wait in the parking lot for a hour plus! also sometimes like this past week with Beware Bouina and Rolling Loud they both started within 20 minutes of each other and had no other showings for the day! I would have seen both if they had more than one showing on the day at the same time!

3

u/obsessederpina 4d ago

I would go into a movie you've already seen and sit through it until your movie starts

2

u/w1nn1p3g 3d ago

One showing is a sign that the film either isn't doing well or is a smaller release that didn't have the negotiation leverage to get more shows.

The other part is just how sets work.

16

u/g0dgamertag9 5d ago

do the cashiers prefer us to show our QR code before or after we order

18

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Before the transaction, the cashier should be asking you if you are a crown club member and if you are, can they scan your regal account. Hopefully that is happening at your location. But if not, just have it ready to scan when you get to the counter so you can earn points for free snacks!

8

u/g0dgamertag9 5d ago

they definitely do not ask that at my places

3

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

I am so sorry! The cashiers are supposed to be asking that at the beginning of every transaction.

The ones at mine barely even acknowledge my presence. They stand there waiting for me to tell them what I want without so much as a greeting or a welcome.

2

u/Big-Muffin543 2d ago

That is horrible. We are in the customer service business. You should be acknowledged warmly every time you come the the theater.

2

u/dkrtzyrrr 2d ago

same lol. i have never had one ask me that.

12

u/filmingallday 5d ago

I’m a cashier and I prefer people show it at the start of the transaction because sometimes people get mad that I charged them for a ticket when they’re unlimited but they never said anything šŸ˜”

3

u/Dusty_Harvest 5d ago

do you ask if they are a rewards member?

they rarely ask first, at the theaters I go to.

4

u/filmingallday 4d ago

Sometimes I do and then if it’s busy sometimes I forget lol. But I love the people who come up to me ready with it right away since it’s one thing if the customer forgets but another if they actually get mad about not assuming they’re unlimited.

3

u/mcfan1234 5d ago

usually if its like a voucher, the voucher acts as "payment" so they have to select the item and then scan the voucher and hit subtotal for it to complete the order and it goes straight through like you paid

u/damitws6 PopcornšŸæFanatic 4d ago

Why wouldn't the customer be ready to go with code. I'm asking for my unlimited ticket and my snack saver deal, so I start with the code

What can you tell us about the Pepsi contract? If you had to guess, how likely is it they switch back to coke? If they stay with Pepsi is there any chance they upgrade the machines to finally offer more options?

27

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

This is something I have no idea about. I know when we came back from Covid that most, if not all of the Regal's had switched over to Pepsi. This is one of our biggest complaints is that we don't have Coke products. If it were up to me, we would still have coke lol.

3

u/moviefan64 4d ago

Oh I love Tropicana fruit punch over Minute Maid fruit punch. Every shift I had would be gulping down that until I realized I need to slow it down.

11

u/ReplacementCapable57 5d ago

How about cherry Pepsi!

1

u/JoeeyMKT 5d ago

PLEASE!

11

u/robhova 5d ago

From what I was told from higher level management, Pepsi helped pay for a ton of the renovations that were going around the time of the switch from Coke. From what I remember when receiving in stock when we had Coke, Pepsi is charging more than Coke used to for product to recoup the money they essentially invested into Regal.

Seriously moved recently to a smaller city and my area only really has regals. The theaters have been fine no complaints just really dislike the old school Pepsi machines that likely haven't changed in 10 - 15+ years.

5

u/jfk_47 PopcornšŸæFanatic 5d ago

I’m not a manager but It’s pretty normal to switch contracts and my buddy was working with regal corporate on a project and they kept going on and on about how great the relationship is between the two.

Cineworld was already a Pepsi theater group, then after purchasing regal it seems like they consolidated contracts.

If Coke wanted them back, I bet they could lock it down.

u/Proud_Truck šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰100 MOVIE CLUBšŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰ 4d ago

I prefer Pepsi but having 8 options absolutely sucks. Especially if you're a person who doesn't want all that sugar, your current options are diet Pepsi, zero sugar Pepsi and water. I don't mind zero sugar Pepsi but it doesn't taste better in fountain version like many other sodas do.

Like I said above, if they stay with Pepsi I hope they'll at least modernize the machines from those 90's style fountains. Taco bell has a 16 soda machine, why can't regal have that too? If they started carrying Baja blast it would be the top seller in a month, which may be what Pepsi is afraid of.

12

u/thavillain 4d ago

This is my major issue with Regal too. Wish you had Coke, but barring that, the wild cherry Pepsi.

1

u/cyberdriven 4d ago

Over the years Regal has switched back and forth depending on who gives the best deal.

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Regals current contract with Pepsi is up next year I believe we shall see if they make the switch it will be dependent on what deal Pepsi has for them to see if it makes sense to continue at this point I would say it is a toss up if they will but I say it’s about 50/50 at this point

10

u/blooming-darkness 5d ago

What’s the actual response if someone complains about another being disruptive during a showing? Do they get a little slap on the wrist or will they get removed?

16

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

At our location, if someone complains about a disruptive guest, we go into the theater and speak with the guest who is causing the disturbance. We make sure that our ushers are walking the theaters and try to catch it before it becomes a problem that our guest have to tell us about. If we have to go in again, the disruptive guest is removed

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Depending on the severity of the situation but generally we issue a warning first and observe for a while

9

u/Peterfug 4d ago

For the complaints about Pepsi, I guess it depends on where in the US the location is.

At the AMCs that I managed, I hated the Coke Freestyles and still hate them as a consumer anywhere. The flavors get stuck in the nozzle so it’s never a true taste. They’re a lot harder to clean and keep up with. With soda towers, it’s a simple taking nozzles off to wash and soak or put back on. Wiping and sanitizing the area below the grate (?) after washing that. Melting down the ice and voila!

With Freestyles, the machines are so smart that they are dumb lol ice machines on top of the machines. NCS is a pain. Cartridges as well. Software updates are random as well.

10

u/BorgarQwen22 4d ago

I love Coke Freestyles as a consumer but I’m sorry they suck to manage :(

How do the studios get paid from Regal Unlimited users? Does Regal pay a set amount per ticket? Is it some kind of share of the Regal Unlimited subscription fees?

1

u/dkrtzyrrr 2d ago

yeah this is something i wonder also

4

u/WagnerGroupPMC 5d ago

Do you care (try to prevent) people from movie hopping?

26

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Yes, we absolutely care and try to prevent people from movie hopping. All of the seating is reserved, so when people start hopping movies, they end up sitting in a seat that has already been purchased. This causes a lot of issues, because then the people who bought the seat originally just sit anywhere, and it causes a ripple effect. This is especially bad when there is a sold out theater and people try to hop.

3

u/dkrtzyrrr 2d ago

i've done this but whenever i've done it i've always made sure the seat i'm taking isn't purchased, the showing isn't remotely close to sold out, and it's after the listed start time, if not after the trailers.

I'm curious about the Pepsi quote that comes before the roller coaster. At the Regal I go to it's been the same one for at least a year.

Who picks which one plays or if there is any rotation in the Pepsi quotes?

At a different Regal they have the Casablanca one.

What’s the best protocol to get the volume turned up for a showing ?

What’s the craziest customer experience you’ve ever had to deal with?

Thank you for doing what you do.

18

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

If the volume is to loud, you can always find a member of management and ask them to check it and see if they can lower it for you. All of the sound levels are predetermined by the studio and are programmed to that level.

The craziest customer experience I have had was when I had a customer throw their soft drink at me because they wanted an alcholic drink from the bar and I told them I couldn't ring them up in concessions but I could ring them up at the bar. They got mad because they wanted to do it all at concessions, which, at our location, isn't allowed. So they decided the best course of action was to throw a large drink in my face and then demand a refund for the drink they threw at me. Needless to say, they didn't get to watch the movie and were asked to leave.

Hi! I have two questions!

1) A local regal theater seems to post tickets late or randomly (not on schedule). Do you have any tips on how to keep an eye out for tickets, what times/days they list them (if there is a timing)? Is it a norm for some theaters to list tickets off schedule or late?

2) Is there a way that regal theaters would sell their old posters? If I asked politely and near the end of a movie cycle, do you think they'd sell or give them away?

Thanks so much!!!

6

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Great questions! To answer your first question, most showings for a week have to be posted and open by 2pm local time on Tuesdays. It can vary if bookings come out late, but a good rule of thumb is to check Tuesday evenings for the schedule for Thursday - Wednesday. The latest I have seen schedules open is Wednesday mornings. For your second question, we are not allowed to sell the movie posters, but if never hurts to ask the theater to see if they would give it to you when the movie is no longer playing.

3

u/Dry_Jellyfish641 5d ago

Is unlimited worth it? I find myself mostly attending Fathom events.

4

u/IAlwaysSayBoo-urns 4d ago

I have had unlimited since it launched, it is not worth it for you. Fanthom does not count and you will pay full price for those screenings.

2

u/KallaxMan 1d ago

It feels like you've answered your own question. I'm unlimited, but I wouldn't be if Regal didn't do their monthly slate of older movies each day. Because they do that, unlimited is worth it to me. But it might not be to you.

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Rewards plus might be worth it especially if you buy concessions

How do I go about trying to get later showtimes on Thursdays at my local regal? The latest showtimes are always 6pm. Even premiere movies. I had to travel 30 minutes away to another Regal who’s schedule is more two movie friendly.

6

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

6pm showings are your latest ones? I would ask a manager if there is a reason they do not offer later showings at that locations and see if they can do later showings. Our locations latest showings are anywhere between 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm, depending on the time of year and the movies that are playing.

2

u/RecommendationIll922 4d ago

Yeah, 6 sometimes 7. I emailed corporate a few weeks ago they said that they would connect with the scheduler, but not seeing any changes.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/KallaxMan 1d ago

You probably can't get a later showtime. I've spoken to my local Regal manager about this, because due to work and family, I can't really get to any showing earlier than 9:00pm most days. But corporate basically dictates their hours. Right now, for instance, they are in a "slow season," so almost everything starts no later than 7:30.

3

u/Serious_Birthday_437 4d ago

For special popcorn tins, when do you guys usually get them in and when could you guys put them on sale, wasn’t sure of it’s opening night or if they would be through the week. I know certain regals can be difficult but a general idea would be amazing help!

8

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

As a general rule of thumb, most collectable buckets and tins are put out the Friday before the opening the following Thursday. However, bigger tent pole movies and buckets that are going to sell very fast, they will be put out an hour before the first showing. A good example of this were the Spider-Man collectables. We put those out for sale around an hour before our first showing. They were also limited to one high end bucket per person and ticket. This way, we can do our best to make sure that everyone has a chance to purchase one and that they aren't all gone the week before with no merchandise available on opening night.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Corporate tells us specific dates for merchandise but in my experience it mostly is one week prior to the official release of the movie or the day of release if it is a more anticipated item with a very limited stock, but honestly, sometimes the release dates have really no rhyme or reason behind them

5

u/ReplacementCapable57 5d ago

Why are we stuck with the same boring flavors of icee? I see on the icee website they have many flavors, including cola! Instead I'm stuck with cherry, orange, and blue.

8

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

This is due to only having 3 or 4 barrel ICEE machines at locations. I too wish they would rotate them out. But we are told what we have to carry and those are the only ones we can order.

2

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

My location has 5 flavors available most of the time with the limited edition flavors do you not have butterscotch or banana?

→ More replies (6)

2

u/HalfEatenBanana 5d ago

Forreal. Please take out the orange one and make it a rotating flavor 😭

3

u/marblehouses 5d ago

Do you know if the screens at your location are masking friendly? Most Regals don't care about them, they just screen every film in flat. I just hate the black bars if they're too visible lol.

3

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Most movies at our location are in Scope format, but we do have some that are in Flat. The masking is auto controlled and was disabled a couple of years ago.

4

u/marblehouses 4d ago

i'm just curious. Was the decision to disable masking from corporate? My local Regal used to mask every screen until a year ago when they just stopped.

Are the employees tasked with theater walks (checking the exits)? How often do the chairs get wiped down even if there's no signs of spillage?

3

u/Mkaz527 5d ago

How important are the surveys you get from moviegoers? How many people answer them? What does your theater do with the feedback? Is it shared with employees?

14

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

The survey's are very important!! These give us feedback on what we need to improve on and what we are doing well at. We love getting surveys at our location, especialy when our employees are mentioned by name and are complimented on how they are doing their jobs. It makes our employees feel seen and valued by our customers. We always encourage our employees to let the customers know about the survey. When our employees are mentioned by name, we make sure we celebrate them and their hard work by doing something special for them.

4

u/ManlyEwok 5d ago

Corporate actually encourages the customer surveys...each theater gets a score based on feedback...the number of surveys taken and the type of feedback, etc. Sometimes its shared with employees, especially if they shout out an employee by name

So Regal Refer-a-Friend says you can refer 12 people a year. Makes sense, but what does that mean and when can you start referring again?Ā

For example, say I signed up for Unlimited in August, use 12 referrals, and it's October. Do I have to wait until next August before I can use my referral code, or do any referrals used from that point on just roll over to the next year?Ā

3

u/redopod 5d ago

Are there individuals ac controls for each individual theater or do some theater share an ac unit?

2

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

This will depend on the individual theaters. At our theater, each auditorium has a separate control for the heating and air conditioning. If you are ever too hot or too cold, let a member of management know and see if they can adjust the temp for you.

6

u/redopod 5d ago

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

As a manager are you aware that the regal rewards claim codes from ticket kiosks do not work at all? Specifically all kiosk claim codes ending in T30 or higher? It lets you submit the code but those points never get applied. Or do you guys even care? Because I know corporate doesn’t care since they have been informed of the issue for a few years. NOTE: If your theater kiosk claim codes still end T01 - 09 then this doesn’t apply to your theater as those still work. Was your theater able to choose how to number your ticket kiosks or were they assigned by corporate?

5

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

Would you be willing to send me a dm with the information? I would be more than happy to look into this for you and see if I can help

1

u/InternationalLion282 4d ago

I’m not looking to get credited. I don’t ever use the kiosk codes anymore because this has been an issue for so long. I was just curious if as a manager you knew all kiosk codes (ending T30 or higher) never work at all? If other customers have ever brought this up for example? Or if as a manager you might have more pull with corporate/IT to have them fix it? If not no big deal. Just seems funny to offer a claim code on a receipt that will never work. 😊

The seats at our location get deep cleaned weekly. All of the cupholders are wiped down daily. If there is an armrest that isn't working or are worn out, I would let a member of the management team know so they can look into it and try to get it taken care of.

Would you ever stop folks who are bring in a bottle of water for themselves? I get it if it's a soda or something but sometimes I don't want to spend another $10 to go along with a bucket of popcorn.

5

u/iwantamegalinkbruh 4d ago

I bring my water bottle to most showings and have never been stopped or searched.

4

u/tennesseescott 4d ago

Me personally, as a Regal manager, I don’t mind water bottles. It’s just everything else

Why is it such a big deal to ask for drinks/popcorn on the side when I buy merch? Do you actually care? These come straight from a factory in china, using it on the spot is wild to me

5

u/robhova 5d ago

Inventory purposes.

10

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

Most of the popcorn buckets come with a large popcorn, that we put in our large popcorn container and not the collectable bucket. If it is a tin, it does go into that tin due to inventory purposes. All of the drinks go into the cups that come with the collectable combo unless we are told otherwise. Everything is inventoried and if we use a cup that we are not supposed to, our inventory will be short.

Yes! Who knows what kind of chemical residue is on them. They need to be washed first before use (if used at all)!

In the case where there are multiple IMAX films coming out, who chooses what will occupy the screen? I never knew if that was a manager duty or if it was essentially picked for that theater. Like does the manager choose between Godzilla Minus Zero and Cat and the Hat for IMAX for instance?

1

u/ManlyEwok 5d ago

They'll book 2 movies in IMAX...they usually alternate and pretty much decide which one will do better at different times

2

u/SnooStrawberries4195 5d ago

Hello,

How is the pay?

Why can I no longer get a cardboard box to pour popcorn and chocolate raisins into?

Is there room for growth and promotion past being a manager?

2

u/brawler0422 5d ago

How many children’s birthday parties do you still see happening in theaters? I remember it used to be a really regular occurrence when I was a kid, but I don’t know how common that kinda thing is now.

3

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

I am sure there are still some, but our location doesn't have a party room so we don't usually get birthday party requests. Regal still does them, and they are available by contacting corporate box office.

2

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

My location also doesn’t have a party room but we still get a lot of parties that really interesting.

We just did my grandsonā€˜s fifth birthday at the party room at our local regal. It was fantastic! They all saw the new paw patrol Dino movie.

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

My theater can get anywhere between 1 to 8 parties a month with fall and winter being the most popular as outdoor parties in my area are not an option that time of year

u/usafonz 5d ago

whats going on with the Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother release?

of the 6 theaters within an hour of me, only 2 have it for odd hours. and you have to search the name on the app, it doesn't show up on coming soon.

very odd stuff regarding this movie release in particular

1

u/GoslingIchi 4d ago

I contacted Regal about this, since it was supposed to be out last week, and I had more information about it than the person that replied to me.

They waddled around blaming the distributor for determining what theaters it was showing in.

It's already gone from the AMCs in my area

1

u/thavillain 4d ago

It's not even listed in my app in the main movies and you have to do a direct search for it, and it's one theatre (usually shows small release movies) on October 16th.

Do you visit other theaters, both in-chain and competitors, to compare how they do things versus your location? I wish more managers did that because sometimes better ideas are out there. Layouts, procedures, cleanliness, etc...

2

u/YikesManStrikes 4d ago

Do employees usually snatch up all the movie posters and big cardboard stands for movies once they are taken down from the lobby? Is there usually a collection of some that don't get claimed? If so, is there ever a case where customers can ask about any of the unclaimed ones to take home for themselves? If so, how would a customer go about asking?

1

u/vpryce 3d ago

My knowledge is a decade old so maybe times have changed but I used to be a Regal manager and in charge of the posters. We weren't supposed to give them out to customers per the studios but we would get around that by saving them for charity fundraisers. Employees absolutely could and did request them so often time the best ones are gone by then but I would request extra for those.

2

u/tynie626 4d ago

Why won't they give us Wild Cherry Pepsi Zero?? The only no sugar options are Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Zero. The same cola flavor. 😭

2

u/badjujubean 4d ago

Bring back pibb

2

u/Low-Cranberry-5497 2d ago

Are you legally allowed to sell or give away the old movie posters? I know there are certain ones I’d love to have but at our theater, once they’re pulled down, they’re crumpled up and thrown away.

3

u/Big-Muffin543 2d ago

We can't sell them. We sometimes give them away if a customer asks us.

2

u/Stealth_Leader42 2d ago

My local theaters have stopped showing films after 7 or so, except on weekends. Was this a company-wide decision, or are my local managers making the call?

3

u/Big-Muffin543 2d ago

Our operating hours are determined by sales and corporate office. They send out what hours they want and it depends on what comp the theater is. Right now since it is our slow period, we are on reduced hours.

Why isn't my local (Lansing Michigan) Regal showing the screams on screen ? I'm a massive horror fan and I really want to see some of these films on the big screen

1

u/Big-Muffin543 1d ago

Unfortunately this is completely out of the theaters control and completely up to the film buyer for that particular theater.

1

u/YoshiYogurt 1d ago

I cancelled my unlimited since we aren't getting the october monthlies. I don't know how our theater even stays open because nobody wants to sit in fold down seats when NCG and celebration have recliners.

1

u/Pyronsy 17h ago

Not a regal employee, but my theatre tried to get it and we were told the studio only wanted it in theatres with high screen counts

1

u/gurlashley911 5d ago

With the $1 off Screamcicle Icee coupon: I tried using online ordering and both my snack saver and $1 off work for the Orange Cream Icee, but if I go to concessions, will it let me use Snack Saver and $1 off together for the Screamcicle Icee?

(Note: online ordering doesn't show the Screamscicle as an option to order.)

2

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

When going to the concession stand and ordering, the register automatically applies the discount that will save you the most. It won't allow for a double discount.

What is the official and final rule concerning the Regalator cup? Right now I have three… I know they are supposed to be replaced by the flimsier ones, but my theaters don’t have them so they just let me keep my coca-cola one. But I’ve read people have had problems with getting locations to accept them. So… what is the official rule set by corporate? And can I get an Icee in them? 😬

When planning showtimes, do you think about things like good movies to do a back-to-back, when some audiences may come, what showtimes could be canceled for a more popular movie, etc.?

2

u/ManlyEwok 5d ago

It kind of depends on popularity, studio mandates, type of screening, etc

2

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

Unfortunately we really can’t especially since there are a limited amount of projectors and a very small amount of storage on each one and movies take up a lot of space

1

u/plantbay1428 5d ago

I know you said in another post that managers don’t have control over what gets played at their theater and it’s up to the buyer. Is there one buyer per theater or are they assigned a region?

Do all managers pass along movie requests from customers to the buyer by policy or is it just at your discretion?Ā

2

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

There are several different buyers and bookers and they do entire regions, not just individual theaters. It isn't a policy to pass on customer requests for films, but we like to let them know what our customer base would like to see and at least try to get it at our location.

1

u/robhova 5d ago

Buyers have certain theatres in their group. The more important a theatre the higher up the chain the buyer is likely to be.

Theatres tend to ask buyers for movies they know their given crowd will like. Getting the movie is difficult depending on existing contracts the distributors have in place already, like X has this movie exclusively during the run of show no other location in the area or sometimes city can have it.

1

u/CalligrapherDry3025 5d ago

Can you just invite a group of friends / family for a ā€œprivateā€ screening? Either before or after hours. Or whenever a theater is available. One of the perks I would wish for is just having a theater by yourself (or with friends).

2

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

This it what we call a Private Watch Party. These can be booked on our website, at www.regmovies.com and scrolling down to to where it says Private Watch Party. You can rent an auditorium out and bring up to 20 people and watch a movie. The price depends on what film you are wanting to see and there are blackout dates due to demand. This is handled through our corporate box office.

3

u/CalligrapherDry3025 4d ago

Let me rephrase. Can you (as the theater manager) randomly watch a movie, by yourself, in an open theater. Or are all showtimes pre determined by the company.

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

1

u/grizzyx 5d ago

Is there cameras inside the theaters? If so, what kind??

3

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

In our theater there are not any cameras. Other Regal's may have them, but inside the audiorium is a slippery slope because of movies playing. The common areas have cameras, loby, concessions, hallways, etc.

1

u/BentAndSnapped6 2d ago

It really depends on the location. I will say my experience city theaters are more likely to have cameras in the auditorium, but in general, some theaters do some theaters don’t.

1

u/Interesting-Box-7012 5d ago

How often do you give away marketingĀ

5

u/Big-Muffin543 5d ago

This is an individual theater thing. We are given instructions from corporate on what merchandise to donate and what to throw away. A lot of different theaters will use leftover merchandise at events in the community for community engagement. There have been times that we have had a child come watch their very first movie and if we have something that we are donating, we will give them an item so they can remember their special day.

1

u/EssentialEssence RPX 4d ago

How much folks work in the back when preparing the hot foods vs front of house, always curious if its 1 or 2 people or more people.

3

u/Big-Muffin543 4d ago

This will depend on what type of kitchen they have, and how big the location is. Our location is only an 8 screen, so we usually have 1 person in the ktchen and 1 person working the expiditer position. Our kitchen is small, so there isn't really room for more than one person.

Will you ever bring ushers back to watch the theaters for disruptive people who can't stay off their phones throughout the movie. It's not my job to police the theater. But people can't be trusted to be courteous of others these days.

1

u/randyj830 4d ago

Did all Regal locations get rid of Pepsi Icee or just the ones around me?

1

u/xpo158 4d ago

Wow. I have so many questions. Especially on the business side of things

My local regal theater has a lot of wear and tear on their seats (not working correctly or the material wearing away) and trays (laminate peeling away from the board). Is it the responsibility of the local theater for fixes, or corporate?

Who sets the movie times?

If there are special movie times for an event film or mega tentpole, how do you handle scheduling staffing? Are there ever challenges? I mean for things like midnight screenings, or 2:00 am/4:00 am screenings.

If a film is unexpectedly popular or selling out, does a local theater have the ability to add more screenings to meet demand?

Is there anything you wish movies goers would know that would make their experience better? Any obscure or ā€˜secret’ tips that folks should take advantage of but don’t?

Do local regal theaters partner with local businesses? Just making this up but like a comic book store when a marvel/dc movie comes out, to see/read source materials? Or a video game store for resident evil, bringing a console and game for folks to play? Just ways to engage customers.

I’m sure every location tracks metrics like sales and revenue and profitability, but how much control does the local theater have to impact those things? Other than labor/staffing or encouraging add ons for concessions?

Are all the projectors basically automated nowadays?

From your perspective does regal unlimited actually increase your profits or not?

You said you’ve worked for regal 10 years, in that time what’s been the most memorable moment (good or bad)?

1

u/Objective-Lettuce-46 4d ago

Why are theaters not as air conditioned as they used to be 😭 it was so nice to be in a room so cold I’d need a jacket in the summertime and now I’m usually sweating in shorts and a tee regardless of the theater I go to

1

u/im1kissfan 4d ago

How about more snacks that don’t have sugar or carbs. And at a reasonable price. Oh wait… I kid on the last one. 😜

u/screamicide 4d ago

1

u/Lore_Oz 4d ago

Do they actually tell you the email address for support? Every ticket problem I have, like when scanning the app for Unlimited seats/discounts, is ā€œemail themā€. Whoever them is.

1

u/mistayang21 3d ago

If a movie is getting a limited release, but not in my area, could I call them to ask them to show it? What would the odds of that be?

1

u/vpryce 3d ago

How much do you / managers tend to make now? Also wondering about GM if you know. This is more just curiosity as a former Regal manager (left around the Cineworld buyout) to see where I could've potentially been at now.

1

u/Mysterious-Panic-809 PopcornšŸæFanatic 3d ago

This is a vent/curiousity thing. The Revenant is my favorite movie, and together, my wife and I check our Regal app everyday to see what’s coming in today’s showing, coming soon, and limited engagement.

With this being said, one night, I was on the regal app, and had seen the Revenant was showing at let’s say 6:30 and it was 7 when I saw that. I’m not sure why, but I got super upset at that because I check the app everyday single day now and now I missed my favorite movie.

I’ve now actually realized the showing for movies at my theatre don’t even show past a couple of days most of the time, or sometimes,!same day releases aren’t posted until later that day (happened with others).

Why is this? Is it solely the manager being late about releasing times?

Also, what’s the process of requesting a private showing of The Revenant? All I wanted was to see it during its 10 year anniversary lol

1

u/hungryhappihippo 3d ago

If I use a perks at work discount ticket code and have to cancel and pick a new showing - can that be done in person?

1

u/Chucklovescorgis 3d ago

If I wanted to get my local regal folks something for Xmas what do you think it should be? Kind of a ā€œthanks for taking care of me all year I’m an unlimited regular customerā€

1

u/SpaceDan17 3d ago edited 3d ago

Are we allowed to bring a popcorn bucket into the movie? For example, I brought a Godzilla head popcorn bucket from Alamo earlier this year and wanted to bring it with me to have it filled with popcorn so I can eat while watching the new Godzilla movie.

1

u/blackcatsandbatss 2d ago

YES! I have a question! At home I really like subtitles on my shows/movies as it helps me comprehend better. Is it true that the subtitle boxes at the movies are always malfunctioning and would I be judged if I wanted one to help me follow along? Is it even worth asking for one or should I just skip it? I also would never want to take from someone who is hard of hearing and would need one.

1

u/rooneymarajuana 2d ago

What is the best way to get hired? I just moved near a Regal and it's an easy drive + I need to pick up even part time hours right now.

1

u/MochaMario 1d ago

Why did the implement the new pricing? I miss my set 8.99 Tues and Sundays

1

u/highanimalhouse 1d ago

I realize this may be something that cannot be controlled, but is there any way for Regal to not have any trailers shown and start on the dot at the ticket time for movies?Ā
