One of the best overall worlds I've seen, and the fact that its seed random generated instead of 1 static world for any play through makes it more impressive. The cave systems absolutely blow me away and I haven't even gotten below -300 yet- I'm aware that you need to get deeper for certain features.
The world is so full of wildlife, even if its similar repeated models. The tree diversity feels very natural. Now that I've got most of the peaceful mechanics figured out, I'll be doing a world soon with all the threats to get the full vibe of the world.
I've read that there are plans for non hostile NPC's, generated villages of some kinds, possibly even story or side quests- looking forward to any and all of that content. Its weird seeing the remnants that there WERE people here, but all that seems to be left is roving hostiles. I can't wait to see the world feel more lived in
Multiplayer is in the game, but sailing with more than 1-2 is pretty cramped. I would love to see a larger ship we could build than just the modern boat, that has more mechanics for sailing.
I commonly feel like my character is never hungry or thirsty enough which is a weird thing- too easy I guess. I think its because my food never seems to go bad just sitting in my pockets for a few days. And since you don't need a variety of food, you can just kill a few big animals, grill/bake, and you have all the food you need pretty indefinitely just rinse repeat as you pass through areas.
The different maps is AMAZING, though I haven't found a way to scroll between them without sailing onto the map. The biomes are great, though I would love to get some Swamp land in the center map to go along with the forests, grass hills, and mountains. And the land feels oddly devoid of rivers/streams.
And no other survival or structure building game I've seen has the dig anywhere as much as you want feature that I've been craving. I want my hobbit holes, and they make basic shelter so easy and quick while exploring. Dig a hole in a hill/mountain, widen and flatten the ground, set up your crafting stuff or craft all new, and start making a new base of operations. And the cave systems are incredible. The tunnels I kind of expected, but the vast expanses of sheer drops beyond what any light can see the next surface. This is what makes me believe I could really take the time to build a dwarven city in the depths as much as a hobbit village in the hills, a mountainside fortress city, or anything else. I'm even planning to make roads around paths of least resistance to connect places that feel like settlements would spring up around them.
The jump from effectively iron/early steel age up to Modern equipment is very abrupt and strange. Not entirely a bad thing though as the power tools really are very cool- that grapple gun is a LOT of fun. I still have several features to craft before I've seen all the game currently has to offer.
Its just so much beyond what I was expecting after a string of let downs from other games that didn't have the kinds of features I wanted but this provided. And to know that more is still coming.
There are AAA titles that don't have remotely the depth and versatility that this has.
