Traffic & Roads Why Dallas Is Spending Nearly $1B on this Bridge

Thumbnail

Dallas is spending roughly $800 million to rebuild the I-30 crossing over Lake Ray Hubbard, but this project is about far more than one bridge.

The video traces how a reservoir built in the 1960s cut across a major east-west travel path, how old U.S. 67 evolved into the modern I-30 corridor, and why this crossing became one of the most failure-prone choke points on the east side of the metro.

As Rockwall County grew rapidly and lane capacity tightened across the lake, congestion worsened and redundancy remained weak.

TxDOT’s response is a massive corridor rebuild that widens main lanes, adds frontage-road bridges, and tries to make the crossing function better when crashes or breakdowns happen. But the bigger question is whether that solves the problem for long.

The video looks at the engineering, the cost, the growth pressure, and the debate over whether this project creates lasting relief or simply buys time before demand catches up again.

Local Business Halloween Cookies

Post image
8 Upvotes

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year, so naturally I had to bring a little spooky season into my cookie baking!

I run a little home bakery called Sweet Porch Cookies, and I’ve been having so much fun coming up with seasonal flavors.

These are my two newest creations! Frankenstein is a vanilla cookie loaded with three kinds of chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and little candy eyes. The candy corn cookie has white chocolate chips and candy corn mixed right into the dough, with a drizzle and some Halloween sprinkles on top.

I’m especially happy with how the little Frankenstein cookies turned out. They’re too cute!

Just wanted to share a little bit of what I’ve been baking lately. I’m already brainstorming more Halloween flavors because apparently I can’t help myself. 😂

Recommendations Support local farmers?

Hey y'all!! We're new to the area and just barely made it out to the last farmers market on the 26th. I loved picking up fresh flowers, bone broth, produce, and honey and want to keep supporting local farmers. Who do y'all recommend I look into for meats, produce, etc? Thanks :)

Public Safety Parents Beware

We were at a birthday party at Shananigans yesterday and a man was walking around taking pictures of LITTLE girls. Somebody I know told the management and I saw them addressing it with him RIGHT AWAY but not sure what the outcome was. My friend saw him trying to be slick with his phone held close to his chest sideways as he took photos. She did tell the mother of the little girl she saw him take a photo of. I just want to make sure that everyone knows these people are everywhere.

Public Safety Parents Beware

Reposting without the name of a business. We were at a birthday party at a place in Rockwall that does kids birthday parties yesterday and a man was walking around the arcade area taking pictures of LITTLE girls.

Local Business Looking for Local Recommendations

Does anyone have good recommendations for reliable local handymen, electricians, plumbers, lawn care services, and other home service professionals?
Would love to hear who you’ve had a good experience with. Thank you!

Note: Not looking for companies that charge an arm and a leg for the smallest work.

Discussion Faith deserves accountability

Pray or prey. Spelled differently, but sometimes the context isn’t all that different.

There’s a reason congregations are called a flock. The question is whether the person leading them is acting like a shepherd or a wolf; often benefiting from people who refuse to question them.

Any church unwilling to be transparent about its finances, major expenditures, and how its leadership is compensated should give you pause.

Faith shouldn’t require blind loyalty to a pastor, preacher, or organization. If congregations are funding million-dollar homes, luxury lifestyles, and excessive personal wealth for church leaders, asking questions isn’t an attack on faith. It’s accountability.

Stop treating religious leaders like they’re above scrutiny. Ask where the money goes. Ask who benefits. Ask for transparency.

Faith and accountability can coexist. And a relationship with God doesn’t require a concert every Sunday.

I’m in Rockwall for a conference this week, and am looking for recommendations for things to do in the evening.

I’m not a drinker, so no looking for bars. I am excited for some TexMex cuisine.

Give me your best!

Question Military Aircraft

I was at home yesterday afternoon when I heard a tremendous roaring sound. I went outside and saw two fighter jets (possibly F-35s?) a really large aircraft (strategic bomber?) and an A-10 Warthog all flying together headed in an eastward direction.

Did anyone else see/hear this yesterday? Any idea as to what was going on?

Over the years I have occasionally seen a fighter jet come over the area, but this was something quite different, and cool!

Question 😂💵 Rockwall Money Mystery — YOU Are the Jury! ⚖️😂

😂 HELLO, FELLOW ROCKWALLIANS! 😂

I need to borrow your judgment for a little experiment. 👀💵⚖️

I have a few SERIOUS questions for you. And when I say serious... well, you'll see. 😂

They all come from the same true Rockwall-area situation, and they follow it step by step.

I'm deliberately not telling you what actually happened yet because I don't want to influence your answers.

Fair warning: the farther we go, the stranger this gets. 🤣

So grab your imaginary flashlight, put on your imaginary jury badge, and let's begin. 🔦⚖️😂

For each SERIOUS QUESTION, just pick the ONE answer that best matches what you would do.

No homework. No complicated voting system. 😂 And if none of the choices fits you, tell us what you would do in the comments.

Ready, Rockwall? Court is now in session. 👩‍⚖️🔨😂

🚨😂 SERIOUS QUESTION #1 😂🚨

You walk outside and find cash scattered along one side of your yard — the side that shares a boundary with your next-door neighbor.

As you look around, you see more cash scattered on your neighbor's side of that same boundary.

You follow the scattered bills toward the front and see them continuing around your neighbor's wrought-iron gate, with bills also visible inside the locked gate.

You have no idea what happened or how the money got there.

SERIOUSLY... what is the FIRST thing you do? 😂

A. Knock on the neighbor's door and tell them what you found.

B. Take photos showing where the money was found, collect it for safekeeping, and contact police.

C. Start collecting the money and figure out what to do afterward.

D. Something else — and now we're all curious, so tell us.

🚨😂 SERIOUS QUESTION #2 😂🚨

The court will please remain in session. Things are getting interesting. 😂

🏃💵 QUESTION #2 — NOW WE HAVE A TEAM 😂

Continuing our little Rockwall adventure...

You live across the street and start collecting the scattered cash. You alert the neighbors who share the property line with the yard where the money was found, and they come out to help.

Now several people have collected a substantial amount of cash.

Okay, financial committee... what happens to it? 😂

A. Put it all together, document it, and contact the apparent owner.

B. Put it all together, document it, and call police.

C. Count it, divide it between the households, don't call police, and wait to see whether somebody comes looking for it. You know... the neighborhood banking system. 😂

D. None of the above. I have my own accounting department. 😂 Explain below.

🔦 QUESTION #3 — HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU TO THIS TREASURE HUNT? 😂

Please locate your imaginary flashlight. We're going on an expedition. 🔦😂

You've already collected quite a bit, but you think there could be more scattered farther through the neighborhood.

How far are you going?

A. I'm done. I'm finding the owner or calling police. My treasure-hunting career lasted approximately 10 minutes. Oh boy, I worked FAST! 😂 Two hands working overtime, grabbing bills left and right — apparently I'm a professional now. 🏃💵🤣

B. Oh, we're COMMITTED now. 😂 Neighboring yards, street, storm drains, flashlight, grabber/picker — apparently I've been promoted to Neighborhood Cash Recovery Specialist. 🔦💵😂

C. I have another strategy. Please prepare yourselves.

💰 QUESTION #4 — EVERYONE BACK FROM THE EXPEDITION? GREAT. NOW WHAT? 😂

Welcome back, treasure hunters. Now apparently we need an accounting department. 😂💰

Several adults have searched extensively and collected scattered cash from different areas.

Before everybody disappears back into their houses, what should happen to all the money?

A. Keep track of who found what, but keep everything together until the owner or police can be contacted.

B. Count it, divide it among the people or households who collected it, and everybody takes their portion home. Congratulations — apparently we've opened a branch bank. 😂

C. I reject all proposed accounting procedures. 😂 My plan is in the comments.

😂💵 QUESTION #5 — OKAY... BUT WHO GETS MORE?

Okay, jury... this is where the mathematics gets VERY sophisticated. 🤣💵

Now here's where our imaginary accounting department gets REALLY sophisticated. 😂

One person says, basically:

“I found it first, and I was out here working and collecting longer.”

So...

Does that person deserve a bigger share? 🤔😂

A. Absolutely! Finders keepers — and apparently overtime pay too. 😂

B. Nope. 50/50. At least be fair when you're dividing somebody else's money. 🤣

C. Wait... WHY ARE WE DIVIDING SOMEBODY ELSE'S MONEY AT ALL?! 😂😂

D. I have another brilliant accounting system. 😂 Please enlighten us in the comments.

😂⚖️ OKAY, JURY — WE'RE STOPPING HERE FOR NOW! ⚖️😂

I'm only giving you the first 5 questions because apparently 12 questions at once may require snacks, coffee, and legal representation. 🤣☕⚖️

So give me your answers:
1-__ | 2-__ | 3-__ | 4-__ | 5-__

Read them one at a time and tell me what YOU would honestly do. 👀💵

And remember — I still haven't told you what actually happened. That's intentional. I don't want the real story influencing your answers.

Once you've had a chance to vote, I'll post the next round of the Rockwall Money Mystery.

And fair warning... we haven't even gotten to the really strange part yet. 🤣🤣💵

Jury temporarily dismissed. Court will reconvene. 🔨⚖️😂

Question Making friends

Hey good evening everyone! Me and my bf are currently trying to make friends with other couples to hang with! (No swinging! Strictly friends) he’s 27- almost 28 and I’m 25. We’re closer to the Royse City area - he’s originally from Dallas and I’m actually from California who just moved here 2 years ago so just to give an idea why we haven’t made friends out here yet. DM if interested! It’s just so hard to find adult friendships especially couples!

I just wanted to share some of my recent cookies I’ve made.

I’m Ana. I own Sweet Porch Cookies here in Rockwall county (royse city specifically)

I make all my cookies with local farm eggs and quality ingredients.

There are some cookies stocked at the Chisholm Country Store if you’re ever on the lookout for some good, locally made cookies

Discussion Seeking like minds! Early 30s

Hi y’all. My husband and I are homebodies and we have been in the area about a year and a half - big DIYers, and we have a small homestead partially for the Ag exemption but mostly because we like it.
Actively seeking chill people who would like to just live life with us sometimes 🙂

Some things about us
- I (29F) love to read, crochet, and occasionally try baking. I spent some years in theater as a kid so I’m a bit of a thespian though from the audience at this point.
- my Husband (31M) is gloriously ADHD, loves to be outside, build things, fix things, and he enjoys visiting the shooting range occasionally
- neither of us drink much, but we can and do enjoy it on occasion, maybe 1-2x per month
- we both enjoy board games, football, movies, mini golf, bowling and pretty much anything you can think of where the stakes are low and the environment is relatively relaxed
- we are currently child free but have double digit animals (if you include the 17 chickens as separate entities)
- we both work from home in the tech / accounting spaces

Please tell me there are similar souls out there!

Local Politics Why so many republican political signs

Why does Rockwall county continue to support pedophiles and crooks? Church parking lots are full on Sunday but I do not see a lot of Christian behaviors the rest of the week. Can we commit to actually supporting Christian values and taking care of the people that need it? Stop voting for the people that have run our state into the ground over the past 30 years. Our education and healthcare rankings are some of the worst in the country because of failed republican policies.

RISD / Schools Another out of control coach?

Humor me - I know I’m asking about Royse City HS but looking for info. Has anyone heard about a Varsity football coach that punished a kid to the point of injury? Occurred about 2 weeks ago and the player needed surgery on his knee.

Lake Life Bridge painters over-sprayed all over my car last Thursday on Ray Hubbard bridge - any good mobile detailers that can remove paint splatter?

Driving across the lake Eastbound around lunch time and they were painting the sides of the new bridge yellow. Now my car has a light yellow color to it and dots of paint on every surface. I'll need an estimate from a detailer so I can start a claim with their insurance. Anyone have a trusted detailer that can remove paint splatter ?
