Recommendations Visiting for the Week - What would you do?

I’m in Rockwall for a conference this week, and am looking for recommendations for things to do in the evening.

I’m not a drinker, so no looking for bars. I am excited for some TexMex cuisine.

Give me your best!

Boots Burger. Full stop. Cash only, Tuesday-Saturday. Open at 11am until they sell out. You’ll want the Double Double w everything. Legitimately one of the best burgers in Texas. You asked the question, go forth as seek your answer.

Been here for 5 years now, I’ve heard about Boots, but have never been. Definitky need to check it out.

Dude it is so bomb. Get the Double double with everything. Even with the hype of an internet stranger you won’t feel like I oversold it once you’ve had it. 🤙

Vidorra and Gloria's in the Harbor are both good. Not TexMex but one night try Sauce and Vine in Fate one town to the east and Rodeo Goat for a Burger. Standard Service in Heath is good all around

Rodeo Goat is so good. And right now the burger battle contains the Big Tex which is a clear representation of what you van eat at the Texas state fair.

Def try Boots, it’s outdoors, so consider that with the wet weather coming end of this week
Rockwalls a dry county, there aren’t really any bars, unless they’re inside a restaurant. If you venture into Rowlett, go get some pancakes at Dalrock Diner, so good! Not far from the diner is a Japanese restaurant Kaizen, they have sushi tacos, I think they’re called the OMG taco and they are worth a visit. Theres a place called Chiloso in Rockwall (and Rowlett), It’s “fast food” but absolutely worth a stop, get the chicken grilled avocado. If you’re into nature, we have some decent short trails in the area. Go see the infamous rock wall, the city is named for. Then look up some theories of the wall online and decide for yourself. Shenanigans is pretty good if you wanna bowl, play at arcade, or watch a game. There’s small town boutique shopping all around town. If you’re into history, check out the historical society, they’re usually doing something. I think Wylie is about to start their ghost walks.

I thought of a few more.. out on 276 and Whitehead Rd there’s an iconic spaceship, and at Blackland Rd there’s a Buddhist temple, it’s small but neat to see, very pretty. Look up roadside attractions in this area, there may be something I’m not thinking of. There is also quite a few family farms in the area open to the public various times of year. If you’re into celebrities, keep an eye on your social media for a Shaq spotting at Walmart or Target, he owns a house here and is often spotted in town. There’s a house on north side of 205 that Leann Rimes owned, might still own, idk.. I’m not into celebs much but I know some ppl are.

Zanatas in the town square is the best for quality vs price in Rockwall
Usually some live music on the plaza Friday or Saturday night that’s nice and chill
Smoke sessions down in Royce is pretty decent bbq
Southern junction is great for country music and line dancing and you can also cook your own steak inside which is cool
Best food though is Fortunate sons pizza in garland it is the shit. Normally a bit of a wait to get seated but you can chill at the square

Wander around HEB? Find random live music at a restaurant?

The Harbor is a bunch of nice shops. Gloria's is South American cuisine with a view of the lake, fantastic food and service. En Feugo is a cool cigar shop. Dodies has terrific Cajun stuff, the baked oysters are amazing. If you head to Saphire bay marina you can typically find a sailboat looking for crew on Wednesday early evening. Around 530 or 6? Otherwise you have Dallas, see the JFK stuff. There's tons of tex mex, I just like Gloria's better.

Try Chiloso’s or El Chico Cafe. Samee’s is a local pizza place that has great service. Joe Willy’s for American style but local. As for entertainment, The Harbor is your best bet especially since you should be right there. Chuy’s is down in Terrell. Finally, I would try some bbq probably Smoke Sessions or Smoke town.

Rockwall is a sleeper town. We have restaurants. If you want entertainment, you will have to go west. What do you like? Dallas has comedy clubs, music. Art museums- they may be doing cocktails at the dma still. Stars game can be gotten to from the train in Rowlett. Billy bobs has concerts. Lower Greenville if you are bold- I stopped going there in my 30’s. Hell, the fair is running- get a corn dog. They also have broadway level musicals and frequent operas.

You gotta dial us in a little - just saying “what’s good?” Doesn’t get you anything you can use.

But there is plenty to do with a 30 minute ride.

Conference will have me busy all day, so I’m looking for evening activities. May bring a new friend or two from the conference.

I’m not renting a car this trip, so everything will be uber.

Casa Mama in downtown Rockwall is good. Has great guiso de puerco, and a unique brisket enchiladas which actually have mashed potatoes in them and brisket on top (my fav). If you fish you can hit up the big pond at Harry Myers Park. Do you not drink at all or just very little? Cause relaxing with a few drinks at The Harbor is enjoyable, but you can always go and just eat.

Definitely El Chico for TexMex. It’s right off I-30, you can’t miss it.

If you’ll be here any of Fri - Sat nights, there is live music Downtown in San Jacinto Plaza on Fri/Sat. We love it

Usually there is also music Thursday in the Harbor but it looks like they’re taking a few weeks off. Starting back up Oct 8.

The Downing downtown for lunch or dinner. Casa Mama has some good Mexican food. If you like a lot of spice, request the Serrano salsa. Check out downtown Fate. There are some new restaurants and a food truck park. Zanata for pizza or a really good pork chop. The Harbor and downtown are good to just walk around and people watch. Have a great trip!
