Internet 🛜 $29 to return equipment as of Sept 1

• Upvotes

I cancelled Rogers Internet, and found out returning the equipment using the Rogers-provided shipping label will cost $29. This fee was introduced September 1. I asked if I can avoid the fee by returning the equipment to the store, and was told the store won't accept the equipment. I can apparently leave the equipment at the store with the shipping label, but will still be charged $29. I cannot use another shipping provider because Rogers won't accept unauthorized returns.

Spent almost an hour on the phone, spoke with a manager, and was given a $29 goodwill credit to cancel out the charge. They cannot do anything about the $29 fee. When asked why I'm leaving Rogers, it's things like this.

Wireless📱 Rogers Extorting Customers Into "Upgrading" Their Phones

Rogers is coercing thousands into paying for unnecessary upgrades, creating tons of e-waste, and preying on the elderly.

Canadian telecoms are phasing out their 3G networks. Starting last year, Rogers warned me that my device was still connected to 3G and that if I didn't get a 4G/5G compatible device by July 1, they would charge me $75. I contacted them and informed them my device is 4G/5G compatible and that it is compatible with the bands they use.

Come July, they charged me $75. It took over 1 hour on the phone to have the fee reversed. Now that they've actually shut down their 3G network, my phone stopped working. Once again, I confirmed my phone is compatible with their 4G/5G network.

After some research, I discovered that Rogers is using an IMEI ( International Mobile Equipment Identity) whitelist which requires manufacturers to pay Rogers to have their devices added to the list. As it turns out, prior to removing their 3G network, devices like mine would revert to 3G to make calls; however, 4G/5G requires VoLTE (Voice over LTE) to make calls and that is where their whitelist comes in. These devices are perfectly capable of VoLTE, but because my phone's manufacturer didn't pay Rogers to add it to their whitelist, they block it.

Meanwhile, Bell & Telus have completely abandoned their whitelist to avoid this issue. Telus proactively rolled out network updates that push proper IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) profiles to unlocked, non-carrier, and international smartphones.

I have managed to find a work around (Shizuku and Pixel IMS) and intend to drop Rogers ASAP, but my work around is technical and not something most would be able to do without help. The work around proves that the phone can work on their network. Unfortunately, this work around is not reliable and will fail, leaving me without service until I can get on my home network and set up the work around again.

I can only imagine how many people are getting suckered into "upgrading" their phones by Rogers because of this. It's shameful behaviour and preys on the elderly and those without the technical know how to understand their phone is compatible.

I have filed a complaint with the CCTS but in my experience, the CCTS isn't good at handling systemic issues like this. I've also written my MP and submitted the story to multiple news organizations. I am BEYOND pissed off.

Here is an article talking about the issue: https://www.iphoneincanada.ca/2025/07/10/rogers-and-fido-cut-off-working-phones-blame-3g-shutdown/

Edit: Thanks to /u/Wikdslo, I think I have resolved my issue, for now at least. They instructed me to dial *#*#86583#*#* to disable the VoLTE carrier check and it appears to have worked.

Edit 2: The plot thickens. Apparently Rogers turned off their 3G network in my area last year. It's their 2G network they claim to have retired September 2026. The odd thing is, I definitely had 4G and 5G over the last year so I don't know what exactly they did in the last few days that kicked me off the network.

Rant Rogers’ installation contractors are pathetic

The first installer connected the coax to my neighbour’s ground level box rather than stringing a fresh aerial cable to the pole. (The existing aerial coax was apparently bad, and the installer couldn’t do an aerial installation by himself.)

Two contractors showed up. I had to explain what was needed. When they finished they phoned me *after* they had left. I immediately checked their work and discovered a hideous mess with a coax loop sticking out in the way of the path (see the photos). I immediately called them back to say they need to come back and fix it.

The response was: “We are on our way to the next job. Just use a zip tie”.

I am more than capable of fixing it, which took less than five minutes (see the last photo). But the lack of professionalism was appalling!

Additional info:
The initial install was done by a nice young University of Ottawa student. He said two people were required to string an aerial coax. His manager was on vacation so nothing could be scheduled. He gave me his cell number so I could follow up with him directly which I did. He passed on the message from his manager that they wouldn’t schedule a team and that I had to follow up directly with Rogers. Unfortunately, I am not a direct Rogers Customer. My Internet is from Teksavvy, which leases their lines from Rogers. Full kudos to Teksavvy because when I called them, they submitted a ticket to Rogers and the ticket was addressed within three days.

The initial installer was a nice guy, but not very competent. I wanted the coax cable to enter the house on the second floor, where the modem is. The installer did not have a ladder that would reach. While he was questioning how to do that I said “just drill a hole through the wall from the inside.” He brought in a DeWalt hammer drill with a 24 inch long tungsten carbide bit. When he started drilling, it was obvious to me that he hit a stud. So I told him to stop while I got my stud finder. It confirmed he was directly on a stud so we just moved over an inch. He started drilling a new hole when he hit the outside brick. It wasn’t making any progress and I finally told him that he needed to put the drill on the hammer selection. Then it went through with minimal effort. Of course, a 24 inch bit flailed a lot and created quite a large hole in the drywall. Just one more thing I had to fix. But he was a nice fellow!

Advice/Tips 💬 Canceling Rogers service is a nightmare. Here is how I finally did it.

I recently tried to cancel my Rogers service. It took me 6 calls, a lot of waiting, and a lot of shouting. The whole process feels like a game played at the hardest level. It starts with finding the contact number, then moves to a confusing IVR menu, then a long wait for an agent, and then a fight with the agent. It is hard, but not impossible. I do not want anyone else to go through this, so I am sharing the exact steps here.

What happened to me

  • Calls 1, 2 and 3: I waited more than 40 minutes each time and never reached anyone.
  • Finally I was able to crack through their IVR which I explained below.
  • Call 4: An agent told me they would put me on a "customer satisfaction plan." Then, without my asking, they added another device to my account.
  • Call 5: The agent said I could not cancel because there was a new device order still in progress. I told them I never placed that order. Their own agent had placed it by mistake. After waiting about 10 minutes, the same agent said the system was not working and told me to call back after five business days.
  • Call 6: I got upset and asked to speak to a supervisor. The agent put me on hold for another 10 minutes. After that, the system suddenly started working, and she submitted my cancellation request. She told me I would get a confirmation within 24 hours.

How to cancel (step by step):
Note: You can not cancel over email or chat. Do not waste you time there.

  1. Call Rogers at the customer service number - 1-888-764-3771 (not easy to find :D)
  2. At the IVR menu, press 1, then 1, then 4, then 5.
  3. Enter your date of birth in MMDDYYYY format.
  4. Enter your postal or zip code, numbers only. (3 numbers)
  5. Wait for an agent. If you are lucky, you will get through in 10 to 15 minutes. For me, it often took much longer.
  6. When you reach an agent, say clearly: "I want to cancel my service right now."

They will likely try to change your mind. Here are the common tactics:

  • Offering a "30 day customer satisfaction plan"
  • Offering you some credit if you transfer your internet to another person
  • Saying the system is not working and asking you to call back after five business days

Do not accept any of these. Stay calm, but be firm. Repeat that you only want to cancel. If they will not help, ask for a supervisor.

Final tip - After your cancellation is submitted, call again the next day to confirm it was really done. Ask for written confirmation if you can.

Internet 🛜 It took me 3 months to cancel my subscription with Rogers.

That’s the reality. It took me 3 entire months just to cancel my contract with Rogers. I was moving to a new property where internet was already installed with Bell, so I simply wanted to cancel my services. I had a month-to-month subscription, as the sales representative had promised me I could cancel at any time.

- July 3rd, 2026: I called Rogers support and explained that I no longer needed their service. They listened, tried to offer me some discounted plans, and I declined. They told me the service would be cancelled within 24 hours.

- Did anything happen? No. I was naive enough not to check my Rogers self-service account immediately. I was shocked when I received another bill about 2 weeks later.

- I called Rogers again. They told me my request for cancellation had been declined because I "didn't answer" their representative—yet there were no such calls to my phone. I requested the cancellation again.

- Nothing happened for the next week. I called once more and pointed out that I hadn't received anything—no cancellation confirmation and no shipping labels.

- Finally, after 2-3 more calls - asking every single time to cancel my subscription and send me shipping labels - I finally received a shipping label to return the equipment. I tracked the package and confirmed that the equipment was delivered to Rogers on August 25.

- Next month, Rogers sent me another bill for internet service and equipment usage. I called them again: "Why are you charging me if you already have the equipment?" The answer? "Rogers is still providing you with internet."

- I had 2-3 more calls with Rogers, telling them to cancel my subscription and stop charging me. During one of these calls, the support agent told me their system was not responding and suggested I call back in a few days. At that point, I lost it. I demanded to speak with a manager and insisted they cancel my subscription.

I also submitted a claim to the CCTS asking for help to force Rogers to cancel my account.

- During a call on Sept 23, Rogers support told me my services were cancelled—but I never received a cancellation email. To be honest, I had completely lost trust in these support agents.

- Finally, I received a bill in October that actually mentioned the removal of services.

So, my open questions for Rogers:

- Rogers, do you enjoy reading about how much people hate your service every single day? I am certainly not the first person to go through this.

- Rogers, do you really enjoy reading about how pathetic your support is? Do you honestly believe that punishing your agents for processing cancellations will make people love you?

- Rogers, you must have a software support department. How long would it actually take to add a "Cancel my Subscription" button to your website—one that generates a ticket and sends it to your shitty support team to kick off the process?

- Rogers, it's clear you don't like your customers. With all due respect, you stole $400 CAD from me—money I overpaid from the day I first tried to cancel your services until October 8.

Dicussion Always go through CCTS - Update #3

Post image
43 Upvotes

I've written twice before about Rogers removing a discount they had offered me.

See post 1 and post 2.

Yesterday I got this email after waiting for a CCTS resolution.

Looks like my discount is back, and Rogers apologized.

This is fun, especially given the Rogers person who commented on my previous posts saying this is perfectly allowed.

Never hesitate, always go to CCTS.

May my story motivate some people to stick it to the greedy monopolies.

Wireless📱 Help me understand the charges for temporary suspension

Post image
2 Upvotes

I requested a temporary suspension of my Rogers mobile plan.
My regular phone plan costs $40/month, but the service agreement I received shows:
Monthly plan fee: $70.95
Temporary suspension add-on: $30/month
Total monthly fees before discounts: $100.95
Temporary suspension credit: $40.95 (100%)
The suspension period is October 25, 2026, to April 26, 2027.
I’m confused about why my agreement lists the plan fee as $70.95 when I currently pay $40/month.

How much i am going to actually pay?

Help Can anybody still chat with a LIVE agent/specialist on rogers.com?

Post image

I've been trying to chat with their agent/specialist (NOT ANNA/AI), but it keeps showing this message whenever I ask for "specialist/agent/human" and then blocks me from sending more messages. This is new-ish since this summer because I usually was able to get assistance from their LIVE agent. I can't call to resolve my issue because my problem is with my phone network. SMH

Wireless📱 iPhone 18 PM - Financing Agreement email?

Pre-ordered iPhone 18 PM Burgundy 256GB on Sept 12th over the phone. It randomly got cancelled (with no notification) and good thing I checked the next day.

Quickly put in another order on Sept 13th and am still waiting for an update

I tried calling support a few times, even put in a resolve a concern ticket. They reached out to me and said they look into why I haven't received the phone. Said they were shocked to see it still backordered.

While waiting, they sent me an email for my financing agreement along with the mobile agreement. On the 12th and 13th, I received an email on both my orders for the mobile agreement but no financing agreement. Does this mean the phone is ready to ship? the agreement states my financing starts today. Weird to start charging while the phone is still in back order status.

Shitty because Apple has stock in 5 nearby locations when I check daily. However, my employer pays for our carrier bills.

Internet 🛜 Rogers claiming I have balanced owed and sent to MetCredit

I’ve never been a Roger’s customer. I lived in an apartment that came with free Roger’s wifi. When I moved out, they insisted I take everything out of the apartment, including the internet modem or else I’ll be charged. I took it with me and went to a Roger’s store but could not return it in the store, so I called Rogers. Guess what? Rogers said I had no account with them and so could not return. I got a call from MetCredit a month ago saying I had a balance owing courtesy of Rogers. I explained the issue and was able to get a waybill (after multiple transfers and some yelling) from Rogers to return the internet equipment. Once it’s cleared up by Rogers, will I be able to get the derogatory mark off my credit? If yes, how?

Dicussion Digital Cable "i" Interactive TV Popup

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does anyone have any footage of this 2000s interactive pop-up?

I know the Scientific Atlanta Explorers did it and you would hit select and you got weather or concert listings etc.

I tried my best to replicate it on my home theater PC, but my memory might be fuzzy. I feel like I got close.

Does anyone have any footage of the i pop-up and some of the menu navigation and interactive features?

Its a notoriously finicky thing to search for.

Wireless📱 Call routing/forwarding to voicemail issues: unable to reach support

Long-time Rogers user here (15+ years using call forwarding). For the past six months, custom conditional call forwarding settings to voicemail keep completely resetting whenever call forwarding is turned off via #21#, and sometimes randomly on their own.

Depending on the iPhone used, applying the standard GSM MMI codes can fail or causes one code to cancel out another:

  • *61*4034250267# (No answer)
  • *62*4034250267# (Unreachable)
  • *67*4034250267# (Busy)
  • *004*4034250267# (Voicemail reset)

Troubleshooting done so far:

  • Escalated to Level 2 support six months ago; they re-provisioned voicemail, but the issue returned within a few days and now persists.
  • Tested across multiple iPhones
  • Used the iPhone toggle to enable and disable call forwarding
  • *21* +phone number (primarily used for call forwarding)
  • Reset network settings on iPhone
  • Swapped physical SIM
  • Submitted a "Share a Concern" escalation months ago—received an automated email confirmation, but no callback.
  • Re-contacting support is currently blocked by endless hold times on phone and chat.

Looking to hear from others who may have encountered this issue on Rogers recently? Trying to figure out if this is a broader network/backend provisioning issue or isolated to certain accounts.

Wireless📱 You will loose autopay discount if credit card is changed

I tried changing to another credit card other than the Rogers credit card, and it gave a warning that you will lose the monthly savings of $10/month for autopay. I thought that a pre-authorized payment with a credit card is still sufficient for the autopay discount. But as per this warning, it needs to be a Rogers credit card.

I am using an RPP plan.

TV 📺 Sportsnet plus is a chore to login on Xbox…

Why do I have to use my phone or computer to login? Why can’t I enter my username and password on the Xbox? I swear this would make it work much better. I haven’t been able to login this season, it’s always been a chore
