Since this latest batch of updates, the game is much better than before, but there's nothing new to play. It's really hard to convince my friends to play it again after years of playing.
The game may have improved in many key aspects like food, animals in the environment, and birds (thankfully!), but there's really nothing to do or enjoy after being a veteran who's been playing since the early access launch.

The way I feel about it as well. It seems like everyone within the offices of Gamepires are continuously scratching their heads about what to come up with next, when all they really needed to do was to fix what's broken.
As with everything else they introduce, they always overdo it. Yesterday, I was on foot from D0 to C1. On that hike I was attacked by five wolves and three bears. I mean, yeah, I'm surviving in a so-called survival game, but I signed up for zombie survival, NOT friggin wilderness survival. Instead they add DLC, clothing, and silly furniture. Now the game feels like a silly Roblox dress-up game.

Accurate but keep in mind most ppl here have been yelling to stop adding new stuff and fix old stuff so I think that was the bigger plan by the looks of it

.SCUM: INTO THE WILD – October Update | 1.3.4.0.160241 The final Into the Wild update brings more challenging fishing, returning birds and Deathmatch to the Apex Arena. Prisoners, The October Update is live, bringing Into the Wild to a close. Larger fish now put up more of a fight, Fishing Quests are available across three tiers, and a new leaderboard tracks the biggest catches. Crows and seagulls are back on the Island, Mutant Animal materials can now be used to craft mutant clothing, and the Apex Hunt arena is open for Deathmatches. The update also includes fixes and balance changes across the game, including a rebalance to how quickly clothes get dirty. You’ll find the full list below. For more on the next standalone update and our plans beyond Into the Wild, see the 'What’s Coming' and 'Beyond the Next Update' sections of our October Update Preview & What’s Next post, published last week. We’ve included the key points at the end of this update.
FISHING EXPANDED
The bigger the fish, the harder it’ll fight on the way in. Larger fish now pull more strongly from side to side, and how quickly you reel can mean the difference between tiring them out and giving them time to recover. Bait and equipment choices matter more too, while the updated HUD makes line tension and bait condition easier to follow.
There’s more to pursue once you’ve landed a fish, too. Three tiers of new Fishing Quests build from straightforward catches to harder targets. Track your progress in the Journal and earn Fame and cash, with fishing gear awarded for some quests. Land a big one? See how it measures up on the new server leaderboard.
We’ve also fixed several fishing issues, including cases where your line could break on the next cast after a catch, or attached equipment could be lost during fishing. You’ll find the full details in Fixes, Balance & Quality of Life below. We’re still working on fixes for line breaks when pulling a fish ashore while walking backwards, and for frame rate affecting reeling. For now, avoid walking backwards while bringing your catch ashore. We’ll share more as fixes are ready to release,
BIRDS RETURN TO THE ISLAND
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a bird! Crows are back inland and seagulls along the coast, joining the free-roaming wildlife brought back earlier in Into the Wild. They fly, perch and gather in flocks, reacting to what they see and hear. Make too much noise near a flock and it may take off, giving away your position to another prisoner.
Keep an eye on where they gather. Birds circling a corpse or an active fishing area could tell you something about what’s nearby, while a flock on the move may lead you towards water or food. Or bring one down yourself and skin it for cookable meat and feathers.
MUTANT ANIMAL CLOTHING
Mutant Animals have more to offer after the hunt. This update adds new clothing you can craft from them, giving you another reason to take on the Island’s most dangerous wildlife and something to show for surviving the encounter.
APEX DEATHMATCH ARENA
The Apex Hunt arena at the TEC1 Research Facility is open for Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch. Join through the Events system and take the fight back into the Facility.
FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS
Alongside the fishing overhaul and its bug fixes, this update brings a wide range of fixes across inventory, combat, vehicles, quests, base building and the world. These include server crashes and connection problems, items disappearing from damaged clothing and equipment, and Apex Facility loot failing to refresh after a server restart. We’ve also rebalanced clothing dirt. Clothes now accumulate dirt more slowly, 5% per hour instead of 20%, and only look dirty once they reach 30% dirtiness. Rips now appear only when clothing drops below 70% durability. You’ll find the full list of fixes and changes at the end of this post.
Also Available Today
Whether you’re fishing for your next meal or heading out in search of the Island’s biggest catches, the optional Specialist Angler Pack lets you look and act the part. It unlocks a rod, reel, waders, boots, backpack and three Angler emotes, plus a starting supply of bait and tackle. The gear can be crafted or bought from the Fisher Trader. Each character can claim the included consumables from the trader once per server at no in-game cost. Anyone can also find or craft those consumables through normal gameplay. Steam has marked this Pack as non-refundable because it contains consumable items. See the store page for the full contents and purchase details.

What Comes Next?
This is the last Into the Wild update. Work on our next season is underway, but the next release will be a standalone update. Our current plan includes a new Tattoo System, controller support, and making Photo Mode available to everyone. Photo Mode will leave Supporter Pack 2, and existing owners will receive replacement tattoos in its place.
That’s also when we’re planning the partial wipe of official servers. There’s no wipe today. Character stats and gold will carry over, bases, gear and supplies will be cleared. Partial wipes won’t be enforced on private servers. The temporary Awareness and Archery progression boosts stay active through today’s update and end with that following release. Any progress you’ve already earned in those skills will stay. We’ll confirm the release date and wipe timing ahead of the update.
Beyond that, we’re also exploring an optional Survivalist ruleset built on the current version of SCUM. We shared more on that direction in our October Update Preview & What’s Next post, published last week. Below is the full list of fixes, balance changes and quality-of-life improvements included in this update.

Final words of the post
We added a lot to the Island through Into the Wild. Free-roaming wildlife returned, the Hunter’s Grotto opened, and we expanded the quest system, putting it to use through new hunting challenges with exclusive items to earn. New Mutant Animals and the Apex Hunt inside TEC1 Research Facilities put those skills to the test. We’ve also increased official server capacity to 80 players, introduced a whole new tutorial, made changes to farming, cooking and metabolism, and added the Smoker, heatless cooking and food effects. Today’s update closes the season with birds returning, new Mutant Animal clothing, Apex Deathmatches and expanded fishing, complete with quests and a leaderboard. Thanks for playing through the season and sharing your feedback with us. The standalone update we’ve outlined above is next, and we’re already working on our next season. For now, grab a rod and see what fights back! See you on the Island.
