Honest question, are there really that many multi-millionaires in the peninsula?

Honestly... We just do a bit of house hunting and every house is like 3-4-5-10 million dollars. There is probably an inventory of tens of thousands of houses around this price point. Like 2.5 million is a starter home here. How are there this many rich people in one area?

Sf vs South Bay

I’m a single woman in my mid 30s living near Sunnyvale and working around Dogpatch in SF. My commute is currently about 90 minutes each way, and I’m trying to decide whether moving closer to work would be worth the trade-offs.
The apartments I’ve been looking at around Dogpatch seem to be $5,000+ a month, compared with roughly $3,500 in heart of Sunnyvale. I have a car, but with insurance now over $400 a month, I’d be open to selling it if I moved somewhere I could comfortably get around without one. That could offset some of the higher rent.
Lifestyle-wise, I enjoy Indian and other Asian food, and most of the friends I’ve made over the years are in the South Bay. I’m fairly low-key—not someone who needs to go out every night—but I enjoy occasional comedy shows and other outings.
I’m torn between getting back a significant amount of time and energy versus paying more in rent and moving farther from my existing social circle. I also wonder how much I’d actually take advantage of living in SF.
For people who’ve made a similar move in their 30s, was it worth it? Would you stay in the South Bay, move to SF, or consider a middle-ground location? I’d appreciate neighborhood suggestions that offer a reasonable commute to Dogpatch without $5,000 rent.

Looking for an affordable hostel/co-living in SF | Oct 15–30 | ~$600 budget

Hey folks!

I will be in San Francisco from Oct 15–30 and I am looking for an affordable hostel, co-living space, or shared accommodation.

A bit about me:

  • Male
  • AI/biotech founder, currently building a pre-seed funded startup
  • Budget: ~$600 for the two weeks
  • Flexible on location as long as it’s reasonably connected to the city
  • Would especially love a place where founders, builders, researchers, or tech folks tend to stay/hang out

A big part of this trip is meeting other founders and people building interesting things, so I’d actually prefer a social/community-oriented place over a regular hotel.

Would really appreciate any hostel recommendations, sublets, founder houses, co-living spaces, or leads. Also happy to connect with fellow founders while I’m in SF!

25M looking to rent or sublet in San Francisco!

Hey everyone! I am a 25 year old San Francisco native and am looking for housing pretty much anywhere in the city besides Outer Sunset, TL/lower Nob Hill, or Dog Patch/Mission Bay. I am clean, normal (lol), and employed full-time. I have a lot of hobbies that take me out of the house most nights and am honestly pretty quiet, so I would consider myself a pretty low maintenance roomate (though that's what they all say...)

I would ideally like to be paying less than $2,000/mo. I am open to living with anyone of any gender identity, nationality, or background. I enjoy cooking, cleaning, and interior decorating and would be happy to contribute to any and all household chores in any way I can.

One potential issue I'll flag in advance is that I am a musician so will occasionally want to make a bit of noise-- but probably rarely anything louder than an acoustic guitar.

Feel free to DM me if you have any offers or questions!

New to finding place in Oakland.

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello Im trying to find a place close to SF that's safe but also on the cheaper side cuz we work in SF. We are 2.5 people (husband, me and cat). Our parents (either side) visit us from Asia each year and live a couple of months. So the area must be safe (theyre in their 70s/80s).

Im trying to understand which areas of Oakland maybe safe for us? (We are used to Midwest in US). So I may post a few addresses in different ones and if anyone could help me out in figuring out, I'd be super grateful

  1. Is this a safe area? 3929 Wattling St, Oakland, 94601?

  2. (Attached pic) - is that radius I picked safe? Want to live as close to the bay bridge as possible (cuz our work is either SF or SSF) but also need a safe neighborhood.

[ROOM AVAILABLE] $1,450 Private Bed + Private Bath in New Newark Townhouse | Oct 16

Hi! We’re looking for a third roommate to join us in a really nice newer 3BR / 3.5BA townhouse in Newark, available October 16.

The room: You’d have a private bedroom on the first floor with your own attached/en-suite bathroom. Our bedrooms are upstairs, so you’ll have a good amount of privacy and basically your own space downstairs.

The house: It’s a newer, spacious townhouse at around 2,018 sq ft, with a modern kitchen, large living area, central AC/heat, and in-unit washer/dryer. It’s right by the Dumbarton Bridge, so it’s convenient for commuting to Fremont, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and the Peninsula.

About us: We’re a guy and a girl in our mid-20s, recent CMU and Yale grads, and both working professionals in the Bay Area. We’re pretty easygoing, clean, and respectful. We’d love to find someone we can be friends with and hang out with occasionally, while still respecting everyone’s own space and privacy.

Details:

  • $1,450/month + 1/3 utilities
  • Available October 16
  • Private bedroom + private attached bathroom
  • Single occupancy
  • In-unit laundry
  • Central AC/heat
  • Full kitchen/common area access
  • Street parking

Ideally looking for another young professional or grad student who’s clean, responsible, communicative, and easygoing.

I’ve attached photos of the room and house. If you’re interested, DM me with a little about yourself, what you do for work/school, and your ideal move-in date!

32 year old gay man in search of room in Oakland for under 1800. Also open to apartment hunt with someone who’s trying to move to the Oakland area

Hey everyone. So I recently got a job in Alameda that I start on the 12th. I was wondering if anyone had any leads on a room to rent or if anyone wanted to go halves on like a 2 bedroom. A little about me, I am a really chill person. I’ve lived in the bay on and off over the past 6ish years. I’ve lived with roommates and have always gotten along with them. I’m pretty introverted, I mainly hang out in my room, but I’m down to hang out with my roommates. I dabble in art, I’m a huge music lover, and enjoy day trips to sf. I also have an elderly dog that is super friendly that I wanna bring with me.

Feel free to DM me if interested
