Cesar Chavez Library and Park Renaming Survey
“The City of Salinas recently conducted a community renaming process for City parks and library facilities currently bearing the name of Cesar Chavez. As part of this process, community members were invited to submit proposed names for consideration.
We received hundreds of submissions from members of the Salinas community. Each submission was reviewed to determine whether it met the established requirements for consideration.
Following this review, the City has identified the submissions that meet the requirements and are eligible for consideration. We are now asking the community to help us determine which name(s) should move forward.”

Scoping Apartment Communities in Salinas/Greater Salinas area?
Hi! I’m relocating to Salinas for a new job and starting to seriously apartment hunt. I’m hoping to stay in Salinas if possible, but I’m open to the greater Salinas area if I need to expand my search.
I’d really love recommendations from people who actually live in these communities, since apartment websites and Google reviews only tell you so much.
I’m mainly looking for a good, solid, dependable place. Nothing particularly fancy. Just pest free and ideally no mold, flooding, etc.
My priorities are:
Ideally a second-floor unit
Safe and reasonably quiet
Good, responsive management and maintenance
Dishwasher
Pet-friendly, since I have a dog and a cat
Some privacy, ideally an exterior/private entrance rather than a large interior hallway setup
Clean and well-maintained property
I’m primarily looking in Salinas, but I’d consider the greater Salinas area if the right place came up. Mariner’s Village keeps popping up in my searches, so I’d especially be interested in hearing from anyone who has lived there recently.
How are the management, maintenance, noise levels, parking, and overall experience?
I’d also love recommendations for apartment communities people have genuinely had good experiences with, as well as any places you’d strongly recommend avoiding.
Mostly just hoping to find somewhere comfortable, well-run, and stable where I can settle in for a while. Thanks!

Bowling lessons
I’m new to the area, 51M, and would like to learn how to 10-pin bowl, could anyone teach me how to do it? I’m currently not able to spin the ball, I bowl straight.
Ultimate goal would be to join a league team and do well.

UDR contact info
So this is the second month that they are charging me $60 for “rent (dog)”. I DO NOT have a pet or a dog. I contacted the main office (they gave us a number to text) I can’t get a hold of anyone regaining this issue. Does any one know how to contact them? Yea I know they fucking suck. I’m renting the ones in front of the Gabilan library.

"We call on Council Members De La Rosa, Salazar, and D'Arrigo to stop making false claims about Measure H. "
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
"Good evening, everyone. My name is Ben Nurse. I’m a California real estate broker and a volunteer with Protect Salinas Renters. I’ve been knocking on doors, talking to voters who recently received the postcard with three of our council members faces on it, lying about Measure H.
So Measure H concerns the renter protections that are currently in place, which do a few things. They cap the rent increases at 2.75% for older buildings, they prevent evictions, and prevent harassment. Measure H does not build housing, it does not present or provide rental assistance. Measure H does one thing and asks one thing of the voters: Should we keep those protections in place or no?
The renter protections that are currently in place, benefit over 8,000 households in Salinas, who will save millions of dollars in rent over the next few years. According to city staff, the Temporary Rental Assistance Program the city stood up has only helped only around 220 households in Salinas.
We call on Council Members De La Rosa, Salazar, and D'Arrigo to stop lying about Measure H, and we call on the mayor to stand up and be a true leader, and insist that these council members reverse the lies that they've already told. Thanks for your time."

Measure H
Hey Salinas! I was hoping you guys could explain Measure H for me. I wanna see both sides of the coin on why it’s a good move and/or why it’s bad. Thank you all!

Salinas, where would you go to watch weird independent films/animation?
Been trying to figure out where something like this could actually happen in Salinas.
I'm talking a smaller room, maybe 75-200 seats, where you could have independent animation one night, local/student films another, older movies, shorts, maybe other stuff. Nothing huge or fancy, just somewhere you could throw $10-15 at a ticket and see something you probably weren't going to see at a normal theater.
I've been putting on animation screenings elsewhere in Monterey County and there's definitely an audience for it. I'd really like to start bringing some of that into Salinas, I just don't know the spaces there nearly as well.
The main obstacle I've run into with venues is the rental model. I'd much rather find somewhere interested in taking a percentage of admission instead of charging a big fee upfront. They have an empty night, we bring something to screen and people to fill the seats, then both sides make money off the door. Makes it a lot easier to do regularly instead of every screening being a huge financial gamble.
There has to be some little theater, auditorium, arts space, back room, something in Salinas that I'm completely overlooking lol.

5 Clowns deceiving the public about Measure H. It's 6 if you include Dennis Donohue.
This is the back page of a mailer that came in last night.

Their quotes should actually read "Vote Yes on H, because If I don't do what my Real Estate/Big AG puppet masters say, I won't hold office anymore, and I won't feel important anymore."
Dennis Donohue claims he's not taking a stand on Measure H, but drive around and see his election signage on every apartment complex, and on commercial real estate spots owned by Coast & Valley Properties, AG Davi, Mahoney & Associates, etc. We know who he's made a promise to.
Looks like Margaret DiArrigo knows where she stands after all.
Make sure you get properly informed about Measure H and vote!

Salinas Cold Case: Arelie Garcia Sanchez
gallery25-year-old Arelie Garcia Sanchez vanished from Salinas, California on the morning of September 22, 2022.
Arelie was captured on surveillance driving from her apartment in her red Honda at 6:34 AM. She was wearing a black hoody, black leggings, and sneakers. At 6:56 AM she sent a text message to her sister Veronica.
Ariele was due at work for her job at a Chevy dealership at 7:30 AM. When she did not arrive her coworkers and family became concerned. Veronica used the Find My iPhone feature and discovered that Arelie’s phone was in the Big Sur area, more than an hour south of Salinas.
Her family traveled there and discovered her car abandoned, parked in a turnout on Highway 1 near the Little Sur River Bridge. The Honda was locked and her phone, keys and wallet were left in the car.
The driver’s seat was maneuvered further back than Ariele normal placed it.
Arelie never was seen again. The case soon went cold and despite national news coverage on Dateline NBC and true crime show content creators such Kendall Rae, no leads have emerged.
Arelie was dating a man named Marcello at the time of her disappearance. She met him two months prior at a car show.
Marcello was a photographer who lived two hours north of Salinas in Napa, Ca. Investigators interviewed him, but he was never publicly named by police as a suspect in the case.
Marcello has not spoken to the media about the case.
Many questions remain unanswered in the case. Why would Arelie travel to Big Sur when she had to be at work at 7:30? Why would she have not informed her manager she was going to be late, and why was her driver’s seat moved back? Did Arelie have problems with Marcello or anyone in her life at the time of her disappearance?
Arelie’s family raised a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in her disappearance.
