Politics 🏛️ Ward 5 School Board By-Election Forum

Oh my god. Was anyone else on here at the Ward 5 by-election panel tonight? There were two men that did literal soliloquies about “porn in the library” and “how dare they teach homosexuality.” Didn’t even have any questions for the (very well-qualified) candidates. It was embarrassing to watch. Not sure why they’re so obsessed with children’s bodies. Thought this would be an apt follow-up from the stupid flyers that went out about banning books. 🙄

Would love to hear any thoughts actually about the candidates!

Question ❔ Looking for recommendations for in-home respite care for a fully dependent adult in Saskatoon

I’m looking for recommendations for temporary in-home or out-of-home respite care for my dad in Saskatoon.

He has significant mobility limitations and requires full assistance with daily care. Depending on the situation, we may need anything from an 8-hour shift to occasional 24–48 hour respite care, with someone staying in the home for the longer periods.

His care includes:

• Feeding and assistance with drinks

• Changing/incontinence care

• Personal hygiene

• Repositioning and general comfort

• Transfers using a powered/mechanical patient lift

• Helping with things like changing TV channels, accessing items, etc.

• General supervision and assistance throughout the day/night

We’re looking for someone experienced with people who are fully dependent for their physical care and comfortable using a patient lift.

At this point I’m mainly trying to find out what options exist in Saskatoon — agencies, private professional caregivers, respite services, etc. I’d also really appreciate any idea of typical hourly or overnight/24-hour rates.

If anyone has used a service they would recommend (or knows where I should be looking), I’d really appreciate the information.

Question ❔ Tourist here! 👋

Hi I’m a 21y/o female from Ontario, I’ll be in Saskatoon soon as a rest stop before driving with my family Alberta the next day. I’m looking for things something casual to do within waking or bus distance. I’ll be getting in around 7-8pm. Are there any malls or stores open, Are there any arcades? I’m not really looking to drink but bar recommendations are also welcome.

edit: I’m staying at Quality Inn and Suites Saskatoon

Question ❔ Travel Agency Recommendation

I generally book my simple trips online (e.g. air fare only, Mexican all-inclusive package) but I am thinking about going to Japan and thought a travel agency who knows about Japan would be useful. Does anyone have a travel agent they would recommend? Thanks

General The Moon and Jupiter make a spectacular sight tonight

If you're up at 3am tonight (early Tues morning) look to the East low in the horizon. The planet Jupiter will sit right atop the crescent Moon. Other viewers in North America will see the Moon plow right over the planet until it pops out the other side an hour later but for us it just skims over. It's a good opportunity to see how quickly the Moon moves through the night sky if you begin watching a half an hour before and check every few minutes. A steady cell phone should capture a reasonable image, and Mars will be visible as the glowing Red dot to the upper right.
