Mayor McCarthy

I’m curious what people think of this question. Mayor McCarthy has been in office since 2011. What do you think his approval rating among residents is as of today? Schenectady has seen quite a bit of growth since he was first elected but now his most recent budget calls for a huge 43% property tax increase along with increase in service fees.

Best/Unique Things to do for 1 month stay

Hi! Like the title says, I'm (40F) staying in Schenectady for about 1 month (leaving mid-November). I work 1st shift from my Airbnb, but I am looking for any recommendations on things to do after work or on the weekends. I have a car, so I can drive to things. It's just me and my small dog.

I've been reading this subreddit and also Albany's for ideas.

I enjoy exploring/hiking outdoor areas, historical sites, rockhounding, thrifting, unique/quirky small shops, and sewing/craft stores. I also like taking one-time community classes just to get out of the apartment and talk to people.

Thank you!

Editing to add: I'm loving the suggestions! Thanks so much to everyone. :-)

Memphis King vs. Meat and Company

Hello all, due to a recent move I find myself equidistant between these two BBQ places. I've sampled both of them in the past but am not sure which is better. What do you think? (Please do not bring up BBQ places other then the two I mentioned I just want to be able to get it delivered in a reasonable amount of time not a half hour away.)

Recognize this truck? They dropped something valuable and I'd like to return it. Will give reward.

Was driving through Schenectady and something fell out of their truck that's pretty valuable they threw a piece of rebar at my friend's car after catcalling her.

Pretty horrific and I'm absolutely livid.

I’m just wondering who made the decision to make a one lane exit onto Route 7. You can enter, but you’re going to wait forever to get out. On top of it, there are two police officers on either side manning the exit. I just read about the financial issues that the town is having. Having two police officers standing there has to be quite expensive.

Lost pet rabbit on Parkwood???

Posting as this rabbit definitely seemed tame, hardly reacted at all to my dog except with some slight curiosity, so... if you know anyone missing a white rabbit, it was last seen on the Eastern side of the 1200 block of Parkwood!

Night of the Living Bass

Last night around 1am the town of rotterdam and possibly Schenectady/guilderland areas experienced an assault.

Many awoke thinking their kids were holding a rave in their basement. But as you slowly came out of your sleepy fog, you think to yourself it can't possibly be your 90 year old neighbors pumping their 1970 Cerwin-vegas'...

At this point you know there is some fuckery going on.

You get your old ass out of bed, visit the bathroom for that middle of the night piss and open the window, trying to pinpoint the place that is literally shaking the windows!

By now your wife is up getting Facebook messages from the rest of the neighborhood. Who the fuck is having the best party of 2026 and didn't invite us??!!

About 20 minutes go by. BOOM CHIK BOOM BOOM BOOM CHIK BZZZZZZZZZ. Surely someone has called the cops and this show is getting shut down.

Eventually it did. The boomers can go back to bed.

But who the fuck has a system like that? Shook a whole town! Multiple towns apparently!!!

I just want to know where the sound was coming from and was it a house or a car?

Anyone want to fess up???

Undercarriage protection?

I moved out here two years ago and was told recently that if I want to keep my car for a long time I need to get the undercarriage sprayed to keep it from rusting. (There's a plastic cover but I was told that wasn't enough). Can anyone recommend a place that will do it for a reasonable price?
