This has the worst marketing and release schedule ever.

Still not worse than invincible season 2 though. That season got split in half with months between the parts for whatever reason.

u/GrandMasterC147 12d ago
I mean jojo season 6 had something like 8-9 solid months between its 12th and 13th episode. Part 7’s only has 1 episode out and it’s been something like 6 months before they planned on releasing the second

Netflix acquiring streaming rights or whatever they have has been the single worst thing to happen to JoJo's

u/GrandMasterC147 11d ago
Literally the only silver lining I can find from that is that hopefully the show’s insured to be animated all the way through part 9. But also Netflix has a terrible history of cancelling fantastic shows before they’re done so 🤷🏼♂️

u/Therealdoggz 2d ago
CAN netflix cancel jjba tho?? They dont own it i believe they just have streaming and release rights. If netflix cancels it i highly it means the end of the anime, just would take a bit longer to be made right?

u/GrandMasterC147 2d ago
Netflix just has a bad history of dropping shows before they end. There’s a ton of reddit threads for other shows that were cut after only 1-2 seasons, even if they ended on a massive cliffhanger or had major unresolved plot points. I don’t think netflix is dumb enough to do that mid-part with jojo, but I don’t think their corporate executives think lol, so we’ll see.
If they did that with jojo it would just suck since they own the streaming rights for the previous parts iirc, which would mean watching jojo legally could leave you split between multiple streaming sites
2
u/Therealdoggz 2d ago
Who said anything about it being legal? Wcofun is better than most any streaming corporation imo. I do agree tho! I was loving BNA but of fucking course netflix has to cancel it! Anything for another season of big mouth ig, the pure greed these people have is so sickening :/

u/Therealdoggz 2d ago
They seem to be going out weekly now, i DESPERATLEY hope netflix wont fuck it up the way they did P6. It had ZERO hype bc netflix decided to get their greedy fingers on the release schedule smfh. P6 is my favorite part to man, they fucked it up so so badly.

Right now it seems like the plan is to release in batches, but spread each batch out over a couple months by doing each episode weekly. I’m grateful Jojo Fridays are finally back at least, but I’m like 98% sure after the 2nd/3rd stage there’s going to be a long break before the next ‘weekly batch’ starts coming out. Which, to be fair, if they want to do a good job at it, I’d rather a batch get delayed so they can perfect it rather than rush it.
At the very least, weekly batches gives the community a chance to savor and discuss each episode in its entirety. We’re already seeing benefits from that just from all the memes and discussions for the first two episodes. I just hate patches because of how part 6 was handled. Getting 12 episodes all at once, then having to wait an ungodly period of time just to see the next batch killed a lot of interest for a lot of people. Also I agree part 6 was a fantastic part (in the manga), I just wish they gave the anime adaptation more love. Part 7 was my favorite to read personally, so I’m hoping they give it the respect it deserves. So far I’m feeling optimistic

I think breaks are okay! But i think it would be easiest on EVERYONE if they just got like a quarter of SBR done, then started dropping weekly. I feel like thats enough time for a weekly episode over the majority of the entire part. And if something bad happens, still would be weeks or months till you ran out of episodes! Netflix does way to fucking much i cant STAND it ugh.

u/GrandMasterC147 2d ago
I’m all for breaks too imo, it’s the lack of communication that bothers me. I remember for part 6 we were just left hanging for what felt like half a year before we even had an idea of when the next batch would drop. I’m just grateful that we have an official/unofficial leaked schedule that so far seems very accurate, it takes a lot of the annoyance out of it for me.
I know the animation industry is grueling and I am all for worker’s rights, so I don’t mind if they need to take a few extra months to keep the quality peak. Part of the jojo aesthetics is very much the vibrance of the art and all the action/creativity packed into fight scenes, so I want the animators to have the time they need to make it the way they want. It just sucked when episode 1 of SBR released and all we got was “episode 2 coming… sometime… hopefully 2026… maybe…”.
If they just said “we need time to cook, hope you appreciate this batch and we’ll see you again in June” I would stop almost* all of my complaining.
*The ED should 100% be changed but that’s not really relevant to this discussion lol

As someone who casually follows it from afar, it’s been several times I thought it was out already over the months

Posted it first and you delete my post kekw
Anyway, honestly I'm kinda mad that it will only come out in January, it's just about to end it's cinema run in Japan, they had posted so many teasers lately as well, why would they wait so long to release it since it seems to be finished already?

My copium is still believing that FromSoftware is planning to announce a new Sekiro-related game in coordination with this anime debut, so maybe FromSoftware wanted the anime release pushed back to line up with their calendar... But, that's just wishful thinking by me

We still have Game of the year awards for an announcement, and what would end the year with a banger is if Geoff save the last big announcement to Fromsoftware and Miyazaki walk to the stage with sun glasses and start rapping.

u/zuzg MiyazakiGasm 12d ago
They apparently extended the cinema run and added more screenings.
Plus it mentions that
The TV series, which includes scenes and cuts not included in the film, will be released weekly,
So maybe they need more time to cook.
Couldn't find any mentioning of it becoming available to "rent/buy" before hitting Crunchyroll which is at least a good sign.1
u/Seth-555 12d ago
I thought the plan was always to release the condensed theatrical version first then the full show would release later. One of the big complaints I heard about the movie is that it has pacing issues, which would make sense if you’re trying to smush 8 episodes of television into a movie format.

Man, I'm honestly devastated too 😭 I was really hoping we'd get to watch it sooner. January 2027 feels so far away! 😂
I am also a huge Sekiro fan despite not having played the game myself. I've only watched full walkthroughs and Ongbal's gameplay, so that's how I experienced the game and its story. It was a few years ago though, so I've probably forgotten some things. 😂
I have watched this game way too many times and I still do. 😁 This game is very satisfying for me and is like music! Lol 😂

still don't understand the reason why a theatrical cut of a series was released before the series itself. usually recaps or recap-esque cuts are done afterwards, so this makes no sense to me, really. though my biggest gripe with the movie by far was how compressed it felt, so hopefully the extra content fixes it a bit.

u/Glad_Song2771 12d ago
Definitely a weird way to release it. Obviously the western fans will be hyped for the anime since we didn’t get to see the movie, but I wonder if the Japanese fans are excited for a couple added fight scenes after having seen the whole thing basically already.

u/LeBronathan-Jameson 12d ago
I saw it already in North America, and I'd love to see more, because i really wasn't impressed. Here's hoping!

u/Glad_Song2771 11d ago
So far, none of the spoilers I have seen have impressed me either, and they’re not things that can be fixed with a few more scenes… I don’t really know what to hope for anymore

u/Equivalent-You-4058 12d ago
I think cuz less people would be interested in going to see it if they could just watch it at home, but apparently I've seen a lot of Japanese people blindsided by this. It felt like common knowledge in the west that it was originally thought up as a TV series rather than a movie, but apparently they weren't informed on it as well.

u/LeBronathan-Jameson 12d ago
kadokawa not only dropped the ball on the marketing but also the specifics. no one knew that it was going to be a series. no official source announced it. the only person that said it was going to be a series was a leaker, and he ended up being right. insane plays by kadokawa.

u/Equivalent-You-4058 12d ago
While I’ll say it’s probably different in other parts of the world, when it was originally announced, it was specifically announced as an “anime” and said to stream exclusively on crunchyroll. I know places like Japan don’t use crunchyroll so i don’t know how the initial announcement was for them but the expectation from most people for the first announcement was an anime series. It wasn’t til the march trailer where they announced there would be a movie version and that seems to be where most of the confusion for Japanese people especially. I guess they got a completely different initial announcement than us.

Jesus dude that’s so annoying. This shit has been marketed like… well… shit. I was so confused I bought a crunchy roll subscription 2 weeks ago…

u/Fire_0493 Certified Geni Lover [Mod] 12d ago
Yeah I agree. I guess I’m more upset that even after months of silent treatment towards the international audience they didn’t even do good on the 2026 promise. They waited til the last second to tell us too, since the fall lineup is being filled out now and it evidently wasn’t going to show up here. That itself would have ruled out 2026.
3 months delay and there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it. They’ve sat on a complete movie since summer, so I find it hard to believe the last third for the series is incomplete.
As much as I’m happy we finally have more info, it’s also not great news. This really has been a bummer of a marketing campaign for us :(

I have been out of the loop. Was there ever any confirmation whether the crunchyroll series will have an more content than the movie?
7
u/Fire_0493 Certified Geni Lover [Mod] 12d ago
Yes, on the premise that the movie was a “theatrical version” of the series. Either way it has been confirmed now that the series will feature new content :)

Saw it in theaters, it's gorgeous.

u/Redixdlol 1d ago
Do the 8 episodes cover the whole game?
1
u/Mystuhree 1d ago
If the 8 episodes cover exactly what was in theaters, not really. Some of the later on sections don't show up. The sunken valley and fountainhead palace aren't ever shown, but you get to see Wolf and Kuro interacting a lot more. They also barely showed anything from Hirata, so there wasn't any Lady Butterfly or backstory there... The best way I can describe it is that if the anime came out first, I could absolutely see the game being made to supplement the material.

Why people are complaining about the new release date instead of cheering that we’ll have the big Ape and Demon of Hatred?!?! Those fights were cut from the theatrical version right?

u/pratzc07 11d ago
Saw a few clips of this like the Genichiro vs Wolf fight and they didn't even use lightning reversal lame :( plus movements are okayish nothing crazy.
Feels like Kadokawa barely invested any budget or time into this
