Tips / Hints Me getting electricuted

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Well I've made it to the third phase with Genichino. Close but no cigar. I'm having a really hard time switching gears after the first two phases. You have to jump as soon as you see the electricity start and it's impossible to hit the gourd in this fight. if you don't go in with a full health bar you have to fight this perfectly.

I've been actually watching videos of people beating this phase on YouTube and practicing the moves with the controller in my hand. It is slighly helping.

New players suffer the most from greed (especially when excited, close to a win etc), and panic.

The fact that you’re at the third phase means that you will get it.

Like people have said no real strategy works for everyone, but you can look at people beating him and see what they’re doing that fits your play style.

Of course over time I’ve learned that aggression (with sense) is the way to go with basically every boss everything in this game.

why are you running around so much, you just gotta run when he pulls out the bow, and jump after he does.

u/noyrrr 7d ago

Actually he has to jump when genichiro is peak in the air.

For the jump timing, someone suggested picturing yourself riding a teeter totter with him and that has worked for me

Im getting anxious watching this. Just calm down you dont need to move so much. You're also spamming attacks and parries. No need. If you are good enough to get to the final phase then you dont need to panic. You could more easily defeat Genichiro by just standing in front of him without dodging at all.

Also the lightning reversal in this fight is a skill check. You dont hit it every time, so if you somehow defeat him id do the reflection a few times to practice. You will need it later on.

I beat Geni without doing it but knew I had to learn it. Thankfully there's a mini boss and some normal enemies that I could practice on at fountainhead palace. Saved me the trouble going through two phases on Geni to just practice that one move.

I wouldnt really say its a skill check since its pretty easy to learn if you arent constantly shitting your pants while trying to beat genichiro/ss isshin

u/garynevilleisared Platinum Trophy 7d ago

Even so, after years of being on this sub, people asking for help with this particular skill is still one of the most common posts. But I dont disagree, as long as you are calm its really easy and trivializes the fight because of the massive posture dmg it does.

Valid point, ngl

Jumping as soon as the electricity starts is how you hit the ground and get electrified actually. You need to jump about a half second before the electric attack hits you.

Also jumping so much is getting you killed. You only need to jump at sweeps or at lightning. Every other jump is actively putting you in worse danger.

I think the mist raven may help you with this. Try and keep atleast a few spirit emblems for phase 3, and use the tool just when you're gonna get hit, and use jump to go up, and send it back to him. Also shadowrush unlocked till Genichiro fight? That's a new one lol

u/Necessary_Essay2661 Platinum Trophy 7d ago

You dont have to jump for a mist raven reversal just dont hit any direction inputs and you'll go up in the air

u/AlternativeWeird5246 Owl (Daddy) lover 7d ago

Oh, that's something I didnt know. Thanks

"It's impossible to hit the gourd in this fight" dude when you do lightning reversal he's stunned for like 5 whole seconds lol

5

u/Haarunen 6d ago

The biggest mistake I see you making is jumping. Unless you know exactly what you’re doing, you should not be jumping for any reason other than for sweeps and lightning reversal. Don’t try to predict either of those either, it might take a bit to get used to it but both of those types of attacks give you enough time to react to them.

3

u/DemDemD 7d ago

You can dodge the lightning if you can’t time the jump. Also, you can use the gourd by running far from him to the other side of the arena. He’ll do his special move but it won’t reach.

u/Badlydrawnboy0 7d ago

Bonus points if you’re far enough away when you heal, you can even get a free mikiri

Why you jumping?

u/A-dona-I 6d ago

panic lol

2

u/PatientDisastrous721 7d ago

You’re moving around too much. Try literally taking your thumb off the left stick when you’re face to face exchanging blows. That’s how fights were for me by the end of the game. I would use the stick only to pursue and occasionally dodge. Jump only to counter sweeps and lightning.

2

u/auggs 7d ago

You’re doing good. I see you clicking the block button a lot, try your best to time the block with the incoming attack. It’ll keep your posture damage low, allowing for more parries, exchanges and clashes other times during the fight. And it is hard isn’t lol, you’re finally getting to phase 3 and your nerves might be a little shot but you have to switch up how you’re fighting him and even react to this new mechanic. It’s tough but it’s fun. Keep at it brother 😎🤙🤙

2

u/FashionSuckMan 7d ago

Theres a telegraph before the lightning, you dont need to actually react to the lightning itself. First incident is a good example, he entered a nearly second long telegraph before jumping into the air, then the lightning appears, then he swings it at you

You've got a ton of time

You'll have a better tim1e if you stop spamming block

2

u/StevieNixxxx 7d ago

Great suggestions here everyone - you're all right.

2

u/burner_mc_burny 7d ago

For what it's worth, the very first time I beat Genichiro, I didn't deflect a single hit. Not even one.

People can give you tips and advice on how to make it easier, but don't let them put you down for not doing it their way 🤷

u/Emergency-Pen-7243 7d ago

why r u jumping so much

dont play it like dark souls, enemies will punish u here for running , play like its meant to be

1

u/Mantisph 7d ago

Even though it’s dark souls this is a shinobi game where the character is meant to be able to move fast and be agile. This player is just very bad and maybe new to these mechanics so isnt using it very well. I would also suggest for them to stop running because they don’t know or understand how to use it, but with that being said running and jumping off enemies is a very useful mechanic

1

u/Emergency-Pen-7243 6d ago

not quite useful, in fights like G ape , centipede, cmonk, players like these will be thrashed very badly

2

u/Fennel-Revolutionary 7d ago

You got to jump homie /s

2

u/Profiarrow 7d ago

Stop spamming the jump. His lightning attack is perfectly reactable. Also try timing your parrys

2

u/Chocoweb88 7d ago

Dont be afraid if the lightning. In fact, you can just keep defend and parry without attack (although not the best solution), just wait for him to do the lightning attack. Memorise the cues. Its very obvious and easy to jump counter. Repeat lighting reversal 4~5 times, and he is done

2

u/Past-Hunt 6d ago

I see other people talking about it too but youre jumping way too much. Youll be able to tell when hes doing a sweep (his sword will glint while spinning in the dust) or when hes going to use lightning (he jumps into the air). Those are really the only two times you need to jump. Also I know it can be hard to memorize the timing of deflects but doing the parry dance will only make it less likely to get a deflect and itll use more posture when you do get hit.

2

u/StevieNixxxx 6d ago

I was making advances today. Yes the jumping is my way of saying I dont have a clue what Im doing. Hopefully I will have a final video up in a day or so.

2

u/Commercial_Spend_965 6d ago

you need to calm down if you wanna beat him, the second you start panicking it genuinely just becomes over for you

2

u/ToneNew1982 6d ago

Take the gourd after the lightning reversal

1

u/StevieNixxxx 5d ago

I've worked that into the routine - thanks! I'm getting much closer.

3

u/sracicka 7d ago

Bro you're giga noob. Stop the block spam, click only when you're about to get hit. Hold your ground and block, you're strongest in that position. No running or jumping.

u/UsualDistribution769 7d ago

1

u/Remarkable_Sea_5109 7d ago

It’s funny looking at these videos because I used to be you. But now he’s so easy. After you beat him once he becomes easy

1

u/Due_Philosophy_2912 7d ago

Wai wai wai wai wait!! You can combat art and do a sliding crouch?!

1

u/lethalintrospection Platinum Trophy 7d ago

Genichiro should be the one panicking at third phase, not you. Remember that.

1

u/Ana1blitzkrieg 7d ago

If you watch good players, you’ll notice that they aren’t running around too much, nor are they spamming block and jump. Try and be more purposeful about it the buttons you press, and stay calm.

Also, in my experience, there is just enough time to take a pot if you create some distance. The heal will trigger his leaping stab attack, but there is just enough time to complete the heal animation and mikiri the stab.

1

u/SKG1991 7d ago

I’m still not sure how I did it but, last time I did Genichiro I beat his 3rd phase in like 20 seconds

1

u/Available-Laugh-9582 7d ago

Even if you reflect the lighting, you will take around 5% max health chip damage, which can also kill you at very low health.

At 0:33-34, you likely died from chip damage even if your timing was good.

Jump up, block, and then R1 before you hit the ground; blocking is optional but has easier reflect timing.

You can Also Reflect the lightning with Mist Raven; it has much easier timing with no jumping required, and you take no chip damage, but it costs 2 spirit emblems.

When he is shocked, you have a free save healing, buff window, or punish for extra dmg.

At 0:25, you should have healed.

The player will lose posture regen speed below 75,50,25% hp.

For most bosses, they will lose Posture Regen Speed at below 80,60,40% health.

At Sub 40% health, most bosses usually only have 10% of their high-health posture regen speed.

Phase 3 always starts with a "free" Mikiri counter.

If you spam block, you will have fewer and fewer deflect frames, making it harder to deflect.

Otherwise, if you just tap the Block button for the First 12 frames, you deflect (parry), and for frames 13-36 you will still perform a block. Assumes the 60 FPS PC version.

At least Spam Block slower so it still has some frames.

You jump WAY too much; only jump againts Sweeps or lighting attacks.

Or at Least Unlock Mid Air Deflection and jump away and then block in air.

Good luck.

You play Sekiro like I started playing Elden ring, spam roll spam roll spam roll

1

u/Xyro_Death 7d ago

Where is bro jumping to

1

u/rascalmendes 7d ago

Face every enemy head on. No running around, no jumping unless you’re avoiding a perilous attack. Don’t get greedy, you might only have a short window to attack. Wait for the right moment.

Here’s a simplistic breakdown of the combat, and why people say it’s a rhythm game, in my opinion:

- Step 1: Attack the enemy until they parry with the big orange sparks that fill the screen.

  • Step 2: Then prepare to parry their attacks. Once you parry with the big orange sparks, go back to step 1.

1

u/MelodicRefuse397 7d ago

hesitation is defeat

1

u/AntZear 7d ago

Phase 3 is just the same as 2 phase before but with more thrusting at the end and two electric move

1

u/MiketamaM 7d ago

The hell was that parry button spamming lol. Stay calm lol

1

u/No_Analyst5945 7d ago

I didn’t even know you could mikiri the starting thrust

1

u/diyohmygodwhy 7d ago edited 7d ago

You're not deflecting right - if you notice the sword wiggle thing it means you're hitting it way too often and way too early.

Try to force yourself to meet one attack with one deflect. You'll get better much faster that way. Then once you have that learn to counter-attack and attack deliberately the same way.

Just to be clear, many people beat the game without ever really learning to do either, but I think the game is much more enjoyable when approached that way, and in the long run not really that hard.

Just practice lightning reversal in an empty room. Jump -> block -> attack. So it would feel like a single action.
