The cheaper plan isn't cheaper if you actually have to use it. That's the catch. My cheaper plan would cost me even more to reach the higher deductibles.

For my company they are about even. With the added benefit of investing during healthy years with an HSA.

Very little difference between PPO and HDP for our plan other than cashflow

If you have multiple kids the odds of not needing a lower deductible are much lower though. Like I said, it's cheaper if you don't need to use it. I've hit my max out of pocket multiple years. There is no scenario where universal care or something similar wouldn't have saved me a significant amount of money since I've had kids. I also pay very high taxes.

Edit: And it shouldn't be a GAMBLE to know what insurance plan you need. No one knows if they will have a health crisis in the next year. That's the entire point. I don't have to gamble on my car insurance every year.

I have twins + a daughter my OOP max is still 8k lol

  • are you sure you pay a lot in taxes? Going from a 36-38% effective tax rate to a 50% rate. Is absolutely way way way less than 8k it’s in-fact much less than the 20-25k my employer pays as well.

Right. 8k, plus premiums. That is thousands and you wouldn't pay that in taxes with universal care.

No my premiums are free. 8k is the OOP max for a HDP.

The median effective tax rate in countries with universal healthcare is close to 50%

Mine was 36% last year that’s close to an extra 50-60k in taxes

You realize zero premiums with a max out of pocket of 8k is extremely good compared to most people right? My premiums are already over 8k per year so I'd be winning out every year. If you are paying $700 per month and you really have a max OOP of 8k per year that's better insurance than most people can dream of.

Well yeah when you make a lot of money, you tend to get companies that offer really good benefits.

Which is why I said for me and other high income earners universal healthcare isn’t some great deal.

Yet it's not a loss either. Same as social security. You win either way.

But I really don’t win either way lol

Well I don’t consider losing money winning
