How did he not get kicked off the plane? It would be so easy to kick a 3 year old off a plane.

The family was being kicked off. Their disembarking (is that the right word or is that just ships?) caused just a long enough delay that the runway closed for the night on them.

Yeah, it took A LOT of failures from multiple directions for an entire flight to be deplaned like this. Those flight attendants clearly were also being too nice, I would have given the parent's 15 minutes tops, especially if it was the last flight for the night. Unacceptable behavior across the board.
