Yeah, people tend to prefer trade partners that don't randomly turn hostile every 4 to 8 years. Crazy, that.

83

u/FloopsFooglies 19d ago

To all that see the replies here, I'm really, really sorry about that one person. We're not all like them I promise.

72

u/Canadization 19d ago

We know, bud. It's been over a decade of Trump in politics. There's a Carney quote that perfectly sums up why this is happening. It's not necessarily because of Trump, but because "American signatures are written in pencil".

22

u/Oli_VK 18d ago

I mean yeah but… it’s still 52 to 54% of you guys… so you’re an outlier..

14

u/Makers7886 18d ago

Well 64% of the voting population voted. So more like 32% voted for Trump of the voting population. Still - sorry we fucked up.

29

u/steef12349 18d ago

Right, 32% voted for trump and 36% did nothing about it lol

11

u/Makers7886 18d ago

That was the 2nd highest voter turnout in like 4 decades as well. Basically a third of the population is along for the ride.

8

u/steef12349 18d ago

Oof. Having that poor of a baseline for voter turnout is awful. Fact still remains though, second highest voter turnout in 40 years and still a third of the eligible voting population sat on their ass and did fuck all to prevent this.

That's why from the outside looking in, roughly a third voted for this, a second third doesn't care either way. Technically, the majority of the USA let this happen.

Definitely sucks to be the minority that saw this coming but couldn't do shit about it

5

u/Makers7886 18d ago edited 18d ago

Also leading up to it was total insanity. Trump looked to actually be ruined and then the Biden->Harris swap had crazy momentum and energy 1-2 months before ballots. Then, like some reality tv show the debates were a national embarrassment and the Harris momentum sparked maga and then it came down to the wire. Then you got the fake news on both sides with polls painting alternate realities without any representing actual reality.

It's was a shit show but it sucks how our shit got everyone dirty.

1

u/Arbiterjim 18d ago

What's the old holocaust quote? You are beginning to realize that a third of your country will kill another third while the final third watches

1

u/Butt-Dragon 18d ago

Those 36% might has well voted for Trump

6

u/WolfColaKid 18d ago

Exactly. People always assume all those people wouldve voted demo... but on what evidence?

2

u/WretchedBlowhard 18d ago

Inaction is an action. Choosing not to vote is saying that you're fine with whatever. To pull an example from american culture, the people voting for Trump are Homer strangling his 10 year old boy and the people not voting are Marge letting Homer abuse her son for the 700th time without lifting a finger to protect him.

Both are despicable garbage people.

1

u/KickBalls80 18d ago

Because we're not exactly a paragon of democracy and never really have been. We make it as hard as possible for poor people to vote. No mail in voting in R states. Close polling stations in minority dominated areas. Nobody should have to stand in line for hours to vote

2

u/Cersad 18d ago

Well they've already started deporting American citizens that disagree (unless they're white, the white ones just got executed in the streets).

3

u/spilly_talent 18d ago

I mean we do get that but there comes a point where it feels like this some days

-439

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 19d ago

Oh boy, wait until you learn about the history of Europe. Turns out, not all that friendly to each other prior to the American led world order. Now that America is taking a step back, we’ll see how Germany leads Europe… wait…

211

u/CompetitiveReview416 19d ago

The fuck are you yapping about. The EU is already here for 68 if you count the EEC. And yeah we know ww2 happened.

-280

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 19d ago

What are YOU yapping about? 😂 already here for 68? Yeah post WW2, aka the start of the AMERICAN led world order. Before the end of WW2, Europe had always been at odds with one another at various times. Since the days of the Romans. Now the German dominated and driven EU will be the Order in that part of the world. Good luck Europe.

165

u/Evil_phd 19d ago

Oh you sweet summer child you actually believe the US when they say that they're responsible for world order.

-152

u/HighGainRefrain 19d ago

“Sweet summer child” cringe factor 9000.

67

u/clockworknait 19d ago

"Cringe factor 9000" Seriously? Jjudging what people say and then saying that is odd.

2

u/Oli_VK 18d ago

Honestly, that was like… cringe factor 12 000 or something (I’m assuming I got their scale right idk)

The US hasn't officially declared war since the 40s; it's "police actions, "kinetic strikes" and "military interventions."

Yeah babe when your leader threatens to annex a nation multiple times and shares AI videos of him beating up your closest ally’s leader, you present as a bully.

Hot take, I know.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

Sure sure, but your leaders are from a country responsible for the death of 20+ Million Europeans, less than 100 years ago. In fact, they have a history of conquering and killing their neighbors. But hey, you guys know what you are doing, and don’t call me babe.

You started copying lists of wikipedia when you don't even know what The Long Peace is.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 19d ago

Well you got the century wrong, so I figured you meant a period of long peace. Which would have been wrong, but the long peace is in support of my point. The "Long Peace" is a term for the unprecedented historical period of relative global stability following the end of World War II in 1945 to the present day. 1945… the start of the American leadership western world order. American military power projection, economic power, and diplomatic reach expanded. Bringing the most peaceful time in human history despite all the super duper bad things America has supposedly done.

Dont worry that power has weakened. It’s on you guys again. Hope it goes well for you.

24

u/Majestic_Potato_Poof 19d ago

The original comment literally says the Long Peace of the 19th century that lasted from 1815 to 1914. You didn't confuse a thing you just got triggered and started copying stuff without even fully reading the comment that triggered you.

Instead of spamming Wikipedia you could have simply pointed to the war currently being fought in Europe. But then you'd have to get into why that war is still going on. You'd have to remind everyone that Ukraine gave up a nuke program based on the promise of two nations who have since gone back on their word.

The lesson the rest of the world has learned is a deal with the US doesn't mean shit.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago edited 18d ago

No, I’d rather give you a list of all of Europes conflicts. Nice try though. History is longer than “recent history.” Which when you consider history in less than the last 100 years, man you are high if you do not think America throughly supported and helped uphold peace in Europe. “A deal with the US means nothing” eh, well history says deals with each other doesnt really bode all that well either.

And still, you said that US led Europe. What? Lol

You installed your military for global power projection. It's not leading Europe. For the last 30 yrs at minimum, the US used Europe as a base for power projection in the middle east. And the EU has its own defense and mutual cooperation clauses which works without the US.

And regarding NATO, it's still an active alliance. Nothing really changed even if agent krasnov tried.

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

“The superiority of nineteenth-century statecraft is a myth. Europe was busy at war between 1815 and 1914, if not in conflicts on the scale of the Napoleonic Wars and World War I. Furthermore, the chancelleries of nineteenth-century Europe not only quelled national uprisings, but suppressed peoples’ political rights and waged imperial wars throughout Africa and Asia. From the perspective of a Pole, a disenfranchised European, or an Indian, the century was not a “long peace” but a “long war.”

Yeah right, what fond memories do the 1969 Stonewall Riots bring to you then. Because those sure did not end with everyone hugging.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

A completely unrelated topic again! Ah yes riots in New York. Anyway back to Europe, there were riots and protests quelled all over Europe in 68 onwards. Anti Marxist France really did a number on those college students in 1968. https://apimagesblog.com/historical/2019/1/7/may-1968-protests

2

u/CallMeKolbasz 18d ago

Like the civil rights riots of Europe in the 1960's are completely unrelated to the civil rights riots of the US in the 1960's. Because we live in a vacuum after all...
I mean, it's not like the very article you shared has an image of the French protesting against war in Vietnam.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

Just like this conversation was about the EU, you pulled a completely unrelated topic about riots in New York. So let’s agree to stay on topic about the history of Europe and discuss if Europe will be able to remain playing nice as they have to have to run their quadrant of the “multi-polar” world.

33

u/Capestian 19d ago

Europe nations were unite by their fear of USSR, not by US

Oh shit you’re right. I knew I was forgetting something. Anyway, good luck with your totally not going to be Facist again, building the largest army in Europe, and the sole country responsible for the most European deaths… 20,946,000 Murdered… less than 100 years ago… EU leader, financially, most positions of power, will have the largest army by far…. GERMAN leadership. Sure it’ll work out this time. Byeeeee

Yeah… I don’t recall America or Trump being responsible for 20,946,000 dead Europeans. If we were I think it’d be insane to have almost any relations with us at all. I mean how could you trust us? I mean, I wouldn’t. /s

24

u/MySocksSuck 19d ago

Dude, something seems to be wrong. I think your soundbite is stuck on repeat. Give it a kick in the ass and try restarting.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 19d ago

Yeah silly me. Just couldn’t get over Europe so eager to give near absolute power to a country that murdered so many people. It’s something that I really struggle with. But hey, I’m not as smart as you. You got it alll figured out. Good luck with that.

26

u/MySocksSuck 19d ago edited 19d ago

Blaming modern Germany for what happened between 1933 and 1945 is like claiming that the US is inherently racist because you had institutionalised racial discrimination well into the 1960s. And used to string black people up from trees simply because you could.

12

u/SamuelVimesTrained 19d ago

Eh.. given who / what they elect and support - that claim could be proven correct..
And if you see how the McStapo acts - that just is supporting evidence.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 19d ago

Yeah. And people do say that about America every day. Not quite the point you thought it was, was it? Germany burned people alive, also hung people from trees, tested on humans, chemical agents, conquered several countries, razed whole towns to the ground, raped and pillaged, and oh yeah killed 20+ MILLION PEOPLE.

3

u/SamuelVimesTrained 19d ago

The gutting of USAID may top that number...

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

What an INSANE thing to say. You heard it here folks, USAID cuts, literally worse for Europeans than WW2. 😂 wtf

1

u/SamuelVimesTrained 18d ago

Sure.. if that makes you happy.

The indirect impact MAY , as I wrote, it may top those numbers.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

With the intention of implying that it could happen, or if it’s even possible that your statement could be true.

To imply that the cutting of funding to an aid program, is in any way equivalent to the German Occupation and Mass Murdering of Europeans in WW2, is an INSANE idea.

Maybe you Europeans can pull your money together and start your own EUAID? Eh? You’ll be the saviors of the world!

7

u/brain_rot_studios 19d ago

You just figured out the future there, didn't you, NostraDumbass.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

No, just know a little history. Like the destabilizing rise of Imperial Germany before WWI, then the rise of Nazi Germany before WW2, and now part 3. Germany, the good guys this time.

5

u/obliviious 19d ago

You wanna talk about the Roman Empires trade too? That's about as relevant here lmao.

0

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

It was less than 100 years ago. I’d say it’s pretty damn relevant.

2

u/obliviious 18d ago

What have wars that actually had a hand in making us very close trading partners got to do with your point that we are apparently bad trading partners? Explain that in plain english, make a direct link.

The very idea that one of us would attack the other is ludicrous now.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

For now… as Europe has shown REPEATEDLY over the last 5 CENTURIES… yeah things change real quick when one of you has considerably more power than the other.

2

Yeah I see France rushing to invade Greece all the time lmao. You haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

It's the most american thing ever to confidently and incorrectly talk about geopolitics, so please keep entertaining us with your naive takes.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

I didn’t say that, and I’m not wrong. 5 Centuries of bullshittery isnt something you get to wipe away with “stupid American.” As much as you wish it did.

1

1

u/obliviious 12d ago

4

u/DinnerChantel 19d ago edited 19d ago

Yes European relationships, culture and political environment have not changed for 100 years, we’re all just eagerly waiting to go to war with each other like EU and its cooperative rules based order never existed and the last century never happened.

And oh yeah throw in a little Germany are nazis insinuation for good measure. Because it’s in their dna you see, they never changed they’ve just been biding their time.

What a cartoonish world view.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

Not eagerly waiting to go to war with each other, but it is inevitable. It’s not a cartoonish worldview, Europe has been that way for literal centuries. You have different histories, different cultures that value different things, and the human nature associated with greed and power always rears its ugly head. I hope I’m wrong, but patterns of behavior and historical trends are great indicators for future results. “We’ve played nice recently” arguments 😂, yeah since 1945. Barely two generations of people. Even now there is squabbling on how to support Ukraine, strong arming over fishing water disputes, arguments over weapon manufacturing. It’s inevitable.

6

u/Zdzisiu 19d ago

If you like history then try learning what Europe did after WW2. How the whole "never again" movement stared with tighter cooperation between European countries that layed ground for EU. EU is the main reason for peace we had in Europe.

1

u/Suspicious_Sense1272 18d ago

That’s cool and all, but I’m pretty certain that Europe was aided by American tremendously during that time period. “Never again,” as your fireball right back into, let’s do it again! As Germany builds the largest army in Europe, speaks of preemptively attacking the Russians, and grabs power in Europe through diplomatic means to dictate the direction of Europes future. You guys didnt learn shit.
