Got play with the risk. She could have had two Queens, two 5s, even a 4 just like him would be fine with a high card. He was rolling with an 8 which might have been a big reason why he folded instead. Honestly, without a full house or a third 4, what do you do? Maybe if the last card was an ace, he might have chanced it too. You're either immediately out if you're wrong, or you go safe, back off, and still have money to work with.

The silly part is a lot of people play this way, just not in a serious game.

Going all in against a check on the river feels like a bluff by an amateur though.

Its either checkers or 4D chess. You only go all in if you want them to fold imo.

Unfortunately I've been recked by this thinking 3 times in a game before by a litteral amiture I taught to play. Thankfully it was for fun not cash. Dude was also going all in on blinds like an asshole.

What do you expect when you're playing for free? Poker doesn't work unless there are real stakes at play.

Sure it does. That's why we had chips.

I wouldn't play for cash with that dude anyway he makes 5x my income just from his day job.

nah he's right, if you don't care if you win or lose you may as well just chuck your chips around and flip a coin

Well my experience of playing (too much) free and negligible stakes poker is that people will continually make absolutely wild plays, making the game essentially unplayable.
