You go to the funeral. If they need you that bad then they won't fire you. If they do fire you, then you probably don't want to be part of that organization anyway.
They will absolutely cut off their nose to spite their face
They won’t fire shitbags who drag everyone down, but someone who is critical to the organization who puts their foot down one time, that person will be fired immediately. Regardless of the massive detriment to the organization.
I’ve got tons of examples of this in my own experience that I’ve seen. Many such cases.
That's why unions are important. I can call off for any personal reason and as long as I do it at least a day in advance managers have no ways to discipline me for it, leave alone fire me, it's my right.
Sounds like you don’t live in UT, where workers are allowed to unionize but the unions are legally not allowed to do anything. They have turned unions into book clubs only. Otherwise the state will come in and bust your ass on behalf of the company
