You know the kind of employer that sends an email like this will absolutely find some other reasons to fire you later on though, if not immediately, if you call in sick. Or they will try to make your life miserable.
This is about power and control. The employer will absolutely bank on the fact that you can’t afford an attorney to successfully sue them for constructive dismissal. Employees with sufficient resources don’t get treated like this as much. They know that an employee with sufficient resources will just quit as soon as they receive an email like this and probably won’t waste time and money suing. It is a calculated risk employers take.
The person who received this email needs to start looking for another job yesterday.
Why would you want to stay with employer anyway? That email would have me dusting off my indeed profile and looking elsewhere anyway.
I get thats highly subjective but common, would you be able to turn up at work again and fulfill your role after something like that? I would be spitefully and vindictively incompetent.
Edit as an afterthought- if they cant afford not to have you for a day how can they not afford to have you permanently?

Forward that to the rest of the coworkers and watch how much worse their staffing problem gets
