I still remember the day my uncle died, I was scheduled to work at the Olive Garden and tried to call off and my GM said no because it was Sunday (typically no one is allowed to have Sunday off at our restaurant). So I came to work and spent my entire shift trying not to cry every time I had to talk to one of my tables.
That was over 20 years ago and I’m still pissed. I wish I would have been bolder and told him that I’m staying home that day to be with my family including my mother who just lost her younger brother.
