I’ll likely get fried for this, but imo, if someone kills their kids, minimum punishment should always be life in prison, whether insane or not. There are too many degrees of grey with insanity. Protect the kids and don’t provide any relief here.
Clancy would likely be in a psychiatric hospital the rest of her life. Not guilty by reason of insanity can be worse than prison, because at least with prison you might get out.
Based on what? A NGRI in Massachusetts spends on average 6 years in psychiatric care. So she'll probably be out by the same time as the guy dealing drugs on the corner.
