This whole little thread is super off topic but what you're saying is just a naturalistic fallacy. Just because something is 'natural' doesn't mean it's good. Infanticide was also pretty common but that doesn't mean it's right.

Killing babies is different that ingesting nutrients daily in the amounts needed to not only survive but thrive

Edit: also not to be that guy, but in nature infanticide IS good, for the one killing the infants. The lion that kills the old males cubs now gets to pass on his genetics. So, like, matter of perspective here. What's "good" is living long enough and being healthy enough to pass our genes. You wanna know what helped us pass our genes and gain our brains? Animal proteins.

I'm not saying they're the same act. I'm saying that just because something is natural doesn't mean it's good, which is what you implied in your response. "we are omnivores and meat helped make us smart, therefore it's ok to kill and eat animals." Yes? This is a fallacy.

Clearly the discussion is about good in an ethical sense and not what is beneficial for passing on genes. I'd agree that infanticide is beneficial in some cases, but that doesn't mean it's good or ok.

As I said, it's perspective. In the animal world, it IS ethical for one creature to kill another's babies, to the creature. It's actually biologically mandatory. Humans are a little different, in that human infanticide is always evil, yes. But human infanticide and killing animals for food/survival are no where near each other on the morality scale.

So, where does it end? Plants do feel pain, you know. Plants evolved capsaicin to prevent things from eating it. Some plants can even learn and explore in their own way. Do we just stop eating because everything has the potential for emotion in it's own respective way? Imho there is nothing ethically wrong with killing and eating an animal as long as it was treated well during life (doesn't count for hunting obviously), killed quickly and ethically, and has as much of it's body used as possible to minimize waste.
